Mauritius: Paradise on Earth

Advantages: Beautiful island, lovely sea, gorgeous weather
Disadvantages: Lack of drinking water, water gets stopped, roads in poor condition

...When I found out that I was going to be going to Mauritius in November 2007, I will admit that I was both excited but also a bit apprehensive. Obviously, we have all seen the pictures of the idyllic Mauritius on the television and in books - white beaches, palm trees and blue seas...this was the part I looked forward to. However, I wasn't looking forward to the heat, the burning sun on my pale skin and the food, if I am honest! But things went a bit better than expected! Firstly, a little bit about Mauritius. Mauritius is a republic, having become independent from the UK in 1968. It became a republic in March 1992, 24 years later, and as such is officially known as the Republic of Mauritius. Mauritius Visit

Advantages: Very charming people, Very good hotel staff
Disadvantages: Roads and infrastructure

...I am in Mauritius right now, staying in a rented home. In fact, I was very amazed by some expressing negative feelings concerning their trip to Mauritius. Its the opposite. Namely, that if you go to a good hotel, like Le Paradis, Beachcomber, Le Meridien, Prince Maurice and Le Shandrani, you would be very far from being disappointed. In fact, I spent my days in Beachcomber hotel at Trou-Aux-Biches, in the North of the island. It was magnificent. Indeed, people are friendly, though most do not speak english, and to correct, the nicest beach is Pereybere, and not Grand Baie. Plus there are tons of things to see, like Domaine du Chasseur, Grand River South East, the Dutch landing in Mauritis at Mahebourg, Gris Gris, La Roche Qui Pleure, Trou d'eau douce, and the list goes on. You can pay around 20-30 pounds to spend one day on Catamaran...

5 star hotel, 4 star price tag - Maritim Hotel, Mauritius

Advantages: The service is exceptional
Disadvantages: May seem expensive to some people but worth saving for in my opinion

...~~Maritim Hotel, Mauritius~~ ~Why this hotel: In 2007 my partner and I were invited to our best friends wedding in Mauritius, it was something we definitely did not want to miss or something we did not date miss because my partner was the best man. We did have the option to pick our own hotel but we decided the best choice would be for us to stay in the same all-inclusive hotel with our friends. Our holiday was for the first 2 weeks in May with Hayes & Jarvis and it cost us £1,800 each for 2 weeks. You may think the cost was a little bit on the expensive side, but I hope my review will help to explain why. ...Well firstly Mauritius is a small tropical island situated in the middle of the indian ocean. Mauritius itself is like half the size of london only. It's small but trust me there is a lot to do there. Well port-louis is the capital of Mauritius. Some people who go to Mauritius on holidays never get to know to know the place thoroughly. Well let's talk about the first main attraction. CAUDAN WATERFRONT, now this is massive building with a top five star hotel and around it, open to public, are the cheap original designer shops, mighty gaming world, best of restaurants, ................. Yep there's also a massive souvenir section in one of the caudan buildings. You'll find your mc donaolds but kfc is somehow more famous in Mauritius! KFC aint that famous in britain cause everyone just eat beef and less chicken, I presume...

The Black River Gorges National Park allows you to explore a more rugged and truly spectacular aspect of the island. My partner and I travelled to Mauritius last October, staying in a self-catering apartment in Flic-en-Flac. Unlike most visitors to Mauritius, sitting on the beach all day was never part of our plan, and we wanted to make the most of our fortnight there by exploring the island. Advantages: Sunny, Lush greenery, blue sea, and incredible bargains if you know where to go!
Disadvantages: You need to have a huge stock of sunscreen! Keep an eye out for bargains to avoid Tourist Traps!

...As you may or may not know, I was lucky enough to go on holiday to Mauritius for 2 weeks in November of last year. I knew when I was there that I was going to want to experience as much as I possibly could, as chances were that I would never go back. So when we were told about the opportunity of a Catamaran Day-Trip, I managed to convince my partner into going. I am glad that I did as we had a lovely day, and it is something I won't forget for a very long time! What is a Catamaran you may ask?
