What to write on a cd-r?

Advantages: Cheap, Comes wrapped and with cases, and er... nice colour discs
Disadvantages: None really

...'t 'go over' the information to use again. If you want to use discs multiple times then you need CD-RW discs which allow this. However, with CD-RW's, lots of older CD players, and lots of new ones don't support the playback of them, so that's why I find CD-R's better for audio CD's. Packaging? As you can see from the picture, the box that they come in is a red swirl on the left with a blue section on the right. It has Maxell written in large at the top and CD-R 80 XL-S 700mb in the middle of the box. At the bottom right is the top left corner of one of the discs, with a little box next to it saying 48x. Also on the box is a white/silver and blue water effect ripple thingy ma bobby. Cases? The cases of the CD's have lots of small writing on the front, it doesn't look very attractive but I guess they thing people will print their own...

Another Day, Another CD-R

Advantages: Flawless, huge capacity
Disadvantages: None thus far

...I'm a bit confused. The picture on Ciao shows the CDR74, 650MB of this product but the description is that of the 700MB, CDR80 version. For the purpose of this review I'll go with Ciao's description - which is lucky because that's the one I own! I've recently completed a TDK CD-R review but when I saw that this alternative TDK product was listed on Ciao, I felt compelled to review this too. I know, I need to get out more, but my wife and daughter are at Ikea and my son is in his room playing with his Thomas The Tank Engine tracks and trucks, so what the hell? The spooky advertising worked on me

Advantages: Cheap, reliable, brand name
Disadvantages: None so far

...Remember Maxell? Way back in the 80's they had some spooky advertising, and if I remember right, this was for it's audio cassettes. Long before the days of the CD-ROM, CD-R, let alone the DVD. They go back before my time though, right back to the latter part of the 60's - so you could say they're established now. They still do the cassette tapes, as well as the latest recordable media. I used to buy the cassette tapes, thought they were one of the best around - perhaps the ads had some hidden messages, anyway I now find myself buying their CD-R's. I use another brand for CD's which I can print onto, but Maxell doesn't seem to offer these. I don't always want printable ones though, so find myself using these for general everyday backup use. I don't always need the protective cases either so this time I've gone for a 25 cakebox pack...

If labelling is necessary, it is advised that water resistat felt pens are used to write on the label side only!! Word for word

Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: slightly more expensive than other brands

...It would appear from the shelves that CD's are going the way of the good old Vinyl, into obscurity and beyond. With the DVD probably now the main media for saving files to with the exception of those knacky little USB drives CD's seem to be harder to come by these days. It's shame really they have served us so well over the years, and none more so than Verbatim. I recently had cause to make a few audio CD's and therefore needed some media to put the music onto. I chose the 10 pack Verbatim CD-R 700Mb, which came in at around £5 on Amazon, not bad that's only 50p a disc. I know you can get cheaper versions, but in the past I've ended up throwing more of those type away than I have actually been able to get anything onto. Cheap and reliable cdrs

Advantages: cheap, reliable, work on a wide range of hifis
Disadvantages: garish colour may put some people off

...Geeks cdrs are cheap and cheerful, coming in spindle packs of fifty or a hundred, which are available in most independent computer shops and cost around £6 for 50 and £9 or so for a hundred. You can also buy them on ebay for only a few pounds more. Such a low price would indicate that they may be of less than high quality, but in my experience they are perfectly suitable both for use as data disks and audio cds. Some audio cdrs are picky about which hifis they will play on, but I have had no such problems with geeks disks, which appear to play perfectly on a wide range of audio systems. Having burned 30 or 40 cds I have only had one failure occur during the burning process (leading to one wasted cdr), and even then it wasn't clear whether this failure was due to the disk itself or to a computer error. It's only storage

...As well as using Verbatim CDR disks, which I reviewed recently, I've also been using Sony. Th specific product is 10CDQ8ON, which is a box of 10 700Mb, 48x CDR disks. As usual, they come in a cardboard box, and each one has a full sized CD-jewel case to protect the CDR inside. Each case is shrink-wrapped in plastic, to prevent scratching of the case, and dust from getting into the product. As with most shrink wrapped products, a quick entry system is included, which generally allows you to get into the contents quickly enough. The cases are good quality clear plastic, including the inlay. The front cover of each disk is a green colour, with the Sony logo, and CD-r in large letters, as well as siez 700Mb / 80Min.
