Maxtor is a Diamond, worth 200GB!
Advantages: very fast, stable, read and wirte speeds
Disadvantages: not very many, low end of the market
...▼ How I obtained this little beauty▼
I had already heard that Maxtor make just about every size, shape and speed of hard drive possible before considering buying a new one. I wanted something that would be cheap, around one hundred pounds; fast, most hard drives are anyway so I thought that it was best to go for this little beauty. I brought it of Dabs.com, for around £97.00, very cheap if you compare this to similar priced hard drives with less capacity than this one. One thing though, if you are looking for cheap, high capacity drives, you need to look at the highest capacity first and compare it the next highest at the highest price, so you end up getting a better deal, and more space.
▼Why did I want it? ▼
Well, I wanted something that was fast, very large and most of all, better than my original...

Review of Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 200GB
Advantages: Very capacious, Good qaulity, Good value for money
Disadvantages: Not supported properly by most operating systems
...I wanted to buy a Hard Drive that I could trust all my files with. I have had an External Maxtor Hard Drive for a while and I can admit it's taken some abuse, but it still works fine! So I decided to go for Maxtor's 200Gb drive, the DiamondMax Plus 9.
I baught the OEM version, it was extremely good value for money, I got it for around £90! But the OEM version comes with no software and little did I realise that such a big drive needed to be specially activated first.
I must have spent half an hour tinkering with it un til I took a trip to Maxtor's website and found some software that would set it up for me. And the software worked a treat, except for 1 snag. My ATA drivers couldn't support 200GB and the drive had to be formated to 130GB instead, thats 70GB of valuable space down the pan!! And I am using Windows XP Pro which is one...

Maxtor does it again... Bravo!
Advantages: Very fast, reliable and quiet... and Cheap!
Disadvantages: Absolutely nothing!
...Maxtor have been there since the beginning of the home PC - They were making 100MB hard disks 12 years ago that are just as good as their 400GB+ disks today.
I have always liked the combination of price and reliability Maxtor drives have offered. You can pick up a Maxtor disk for £10-£15 cheaper on average than you can other manufacturers. My first Maxtor disk was a monstrously big 10GB disk back in 1999, and since then I have truly been hooked.
Never once has a Maxtor disk failed on me, or had any indication of doing so. SMART status on all of my drives has always been 100%, and that 10GB disk is still happily sat in a USB enclosure on top of my PC.
Anyway, with the 80GB Maxtor DiamondMax 9 I have been using as my Primary disk for over 3 years getting a bit on the full side, I decided it was time for an upgrade. I wanted...

Maxtor!!
Advantages: Fast, Reliable, Quiet
Disadvantages: Heat (but all drives do)
...I have just bought two of these great drives. Having over 20 years of experience with PCs at all levels. I can say that Seagate once ruled the hill, but that was then. For the past 5 years I have been using and today I insist on, Maxtor drives. I own (and still use) 9 drives in my machine (30gigs short of 2 terra's) - they are Maxtor: 40, 80, 160 (ide), 300, 300, 320, 320 (sata). I also have two Western Dig's 200 and 250 (ide) - they're ok I guess... I love my Maxtor drives though (touch wood) I have never had a problem... ever... okay there was one time I drank too much at a LAN party and formatted the wrong drive, and then there were a lot of times I had a problems with the best virus (or handcuff) in the world (i.e. Windows). Advice: I'm a pathetic romantic when it comes to keeping my drives cool (way below 40deg.C) and I think this...

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 160GB SATA Hard Drive
Advantages: Fast and Silent, Easy SATA installation, Two flavours to choose from
Disadvantages: Dismal performance
...Maxtor are one of the 3 leading hard drive manufacturers in the personal and business computing market at the moment along with Western Digital and Hitachi. They are also the cheapest. Unfortunately, the saying that price doesn't equals quality is true here. Too true.
The 160GB version of the DiamondMax Plus9 can be purchased online from around £51.00 onwards. And with the way hard drive prices have fallen recently, that's not bad at all. But as I said, you're getting cheap quality to match the cheap price.
The drive itself looks very similar to any other hard drive, and comes in both IDE ATA/133 and SATA 150 flavours, with the SATA ones easier to configure due to their jumperless installations.
My personal experience with this drive has been short. I first purchased this drive to use in my first ever custom-built computer...

The Wii Fit Plus is an excellent add on, and great fun!
Advantages: fun, good for you, multiplayer
Disadvantages: none really
...the Training plus and My Wii Fit Plus. Firstly the Training plus section this has 15 new games that work on your body and your mind.
Perfect 10 - where you have to use your hips to bump the numbers around you to add to 10, sounds easier then it is trust me, great fun with mind and body.
Cycling- You use the balance board to step on and move forward, and the Wii remote for the staring, once you have tried this a few times you can cycle round the island collecting the the 13 flags on your way before making it back to the start line.
Rhythm Kung Fu - This is great fun using the balance board, remote and numchuck to copy what the other people are doing behind you, whilst keeping in time to the music.
Driving Range- In all honesty i found this my most difficult but then I am no good at golf in reality either, you use the remote as a club and have...

DiamondMax? I'm afraid not.
Advantages: Very Cheap, Very Quiet
Disadvantages: Poorly Made, Burn Out Easily
...In my first foray into PC building 5 years ago, I spent a great deal of time researching components and learning to build a system competently and properly. I decided upon a Maxtor Hard Drive, which was a 40Gb DiamondMax model, mainly for it's price (around £20 cheaper than similar models by Samsung, Hitatchi, Seagate, etc). This was a poor decision.
Not 4 months after purchase the hard drive failed. A burn out on the IDE controller board on the underside of the disk, blew up the electronics. I was frustrated, but considered myself unlucky at the loss of much of my data. Undeterred, I sent the hard disk back to my retailer and received a new one on warranty. Installed and ready to go, I was happy I'd managed to sort it all out. However, 2 months later the hard-drive failed, this time the motor had burnt out. Right.
I pressed my...

Nivea Hand Age Defying Q10 Plus - heals dry hands overnight
Advantages: Really moisturises hands; smells nice; heals and soothes chapped skin
Disadvantages: Doesn't absorb completely
...I suffer from dry skin on my hands, which is exacerbated by cold weather and harsh hand-washes. It's unpleasant to have rough, cracked hands - it feels very sore, looks dreadful, and means that it's less easy to have hygienically clean hands (microbes can hide in the cracks and rough skin, apparently).
Someone recommended a Tesco's own Q10 hand cream to me. I don't have a Tesco locally, so when I noticed a Nivea Q10 product for sale in Sainsburys priced at £3.19, I thought I'd try it. I needed a new hand cream, and although I'm not sure I need the anti-aging properties yet, I thought it couldn't do any harm.
The packaging is the usual tube-type container, with a flip top lid. When I got home, the flip-top lid was damaged, but this could have been my fault rather than a design flaw. I tried the hand cream overnight, because I find it...

Samsung NC10 Netbook
Advantages: Lots of connectivity - Big keyboard - excellent screen - Good spec
Disadvantages: bad sleeve to store netbook - battery life not that long - small touchpad
...I managed to pick up this netbook for £299 which is oustanding value - from play.com.
The netbook is very light and can fit almost anywhere - it is very easy to carry around - you can set up anywhere and very easily connect to the internet where available.
The netbook looks very stylish and everything is laid out well. The keyboard is the biggest i have ever seen on a netbook - its almost full size which is a bonus as I have a lot of typing to do. One disadvantage of this is that the mousepad has been made very small which is a nuisance - you do get used to it but it is not ideal.
The specs for this netbook are impressive I mean a massive 160GB hard drive, a 10.2 inch screen. 1 GB of RAM and a 1.6GHZ intel atom processor. This spec allows the netbook to operate very fastly - the whole 6 months I have had this netbook - it has...
