...I have been using the Maxtor OneTouch 4 for almost a year now and so far it has been very reliable and worth every penny. It can store 500 GB which is more than enough for most kinds of media. I use it for storing videos and photos. The 500GB comes in handy for editing and storing lots of .avi files. I also tend to install software onto the Maxtor hard drive as I generally don't have enough space on my computer. The only disadvantage with that is the occassional bleeping sound as the hard drive works hard to access the files I am using. It connects to a USB port on your computer and comes with the USB cable. It also comes with a power cable. Rather than being powered through the USB cable, it is powered by the mains which unfortunately makes it less portable. Advantages: Really easy to use

...I expected it to be, about 15cm high and about 1 1/2 - 2 inches thick. If you are consideing buying a more expensive portable one due to space buy only need it at home then don't bother, its very small. It is silver with a blue stand. I think it is called One Touch because you can back up your files just be pressing the button on the front of the machine, although I haven't used this yet. The button lights up and flashes if it is storing something in the hard drive so you know it is working. It is very quiet and you don't really notice it is on, even in a silent room. It is really easy to use, literally plug it into the mains and another lead into you computer. It is 'Plug and Play' which you means you don't have to load a disc or anything each time you want to use it. Just literally plug it in and it works. Definately... Read review

Advantages: Simple to use, Fast and quiet running, no fuss

...I needed to extend my storage space on my laptop as I was maxing out its memory with music files. As such I decided to invest in an external hard drive, the Maxtor One Touch 80Gb. When I got it I was apprehensive of what would be required to install the hardware, but a simple fold out poster walked me through the process which amounted to pluggin it in, connecting it to my USB port, inserting a CD into my laptop and then when I had installed the software pressing the magic flashing blue one touch button. This completely backed up my files in about an hour or less, all 20Gb of it. this impressed me greatly, much more simple than I had anticipated.
