...of it was avoidable, and practically all of it was caused by that parent *not* certified insane, being ill in the head with Munchausen?s Syndrome by Proxy.
First picked out as a particular psychological problem in the 1950s, Munchausen?s Syndrome is where someone needs continuous assurance not of their health, but of their illness. It is a bizarre condition, where the sufferer can to all intents and purposes induce ailments, so they remain under the attention of medical practitioners, and can pass years of testing with no particular complaint being diagnosed, much less cured. They seem to be reassured they?re not well, thus making some part of their mind happier knowing that all is not right, it will get better, and at least it?s not their fault, when all expert opinion can bring about no cure.
MBP is the even stranger variant, even...
Advantages: Great design, innovative software, long battery life, bright screen, great value. Disadvantages: Some slight compatibility issues but these are minor.
Advantages: Huge, High res display. Very quick, great processor, ram, high capacity HDD Disadvantages: No unibody design, some features only available on SMALLER model, Still no Blu-Ray
...Let me be frank. I am a fan of Apple computer. This is no secret. I love more or less everything they do, and although I hope to be objective, here, you are reading the review of a card carrying member of the Cult of Mac.
I had heard that apple had been prepping a redesign to the MacBook pro line for some time, and had held off on purchasing my new macbook pro until this happened. Sadly, the updates came, and the 17 inch top end model was not part of the refresh. The cool new unibody macbook pro's are limited to the 15 inch model. I agonised over the choice for some time, the new 15 inch MBP's are so impressive, but eventually, screen real estate won out, and I brought the older design 17 inch model. I have to say, I am not disappointed.
The computer is a replacement for my old 17 inch PowerBook G4, which was itself no slouch...
Advantages: High speed, gorgeous, and easy to use Disadvantages: Price, operating temperature
...Before I begin, I warn you that I have a lot to say. I will try to be succinct (as always), but there's a very good chance I'll fail. For your information, I am writing this review on my shiny new Mac! I should also warn you that I have exams starting on May 28th, and it's now May 15th (though frankly this will take several days to write!). I really have no idea when I'll actually upload it - if it's now August, I do apologise!
MacBook Pro (MBP)
I've always had PCs, so I've never known anything other than Windows. In fact I've used everything from Windows 3.1 to Vista, but I've always been disappointed. They seem to provide me with a great chance to practice my already overdeveloped frustration skills and in the end I just get annoyed. And so, the tale of the Mac begins.
I'm going to break this review down into...
Advantages: Gives an insight to a child's mind Disadvantages: Doesn't explain how Münchhausen affects the adult.
...the devastating affects mental illnesses can have on a person, and how they can act but not be able to control what they are doing. I can understand it is written entirely from the abused child's point of view, I also think it would have been better balanced had the mother or another sufferer of MBP been allowed to give their point of view.
The father and the medical community, and the social services community for that matter, do not have that excuse. If the book is to be taken at face value, then there should be serious consequences for all those involved from start to finish.
The book however, led me to wonder how much of it is slightly exaggerated. I don't believe Julie has told any particular untruths, but I think her memories of the events may or may not be slightly skewed. What makes me think this?
Well for a start I cannot believe...
Advantages: Explains this unknown disease Disadvantages: Very hard to get into
...I decided to read this book after seeing a sample from it in a magazine. It described a mother and her quest to find the cause of her daughter's illness. However, it is the mother who has the real illness, she suffers from Munchausen By Proxy (MBP), this is a very unheard of disease, where parents, usually mothers try to get others including doctors to believe their child has an illness, and in this case try to operate on her. This cruelty is inflicted upon Julie Gregory from early childhood, until later on in life, when after breaking free from her twisted family, starts to unravel everything that has happened to her, it is then she discovers MBP, and can start to rebuild her life.
The beginning of the book describes the family's background, I felt this section was dragged out a bit too long, and the only reason I continued to...
Advantages: Mostly amusing Disadvantages: Some are very sad (esp. the physics ones)

7)HAL (acronym)
Not really amusing this one. More interesting. For those of you who haven't seen 2001. the name of the computer in it is HAL. How do we get HAL.
Take IBM and go one letter back in the alphabet
I->H
B->A
M->L
'Daisy, Daisy.....'
8)MilliHelen (unit)
This one isn't really real, but is amusing none the less. A woman may be rated up to 1000milliHelens or 1Helen
Alternatively you can use the full nomenclature
milliHelenOfTroys or mHOTs
Corresponding unit for the male is the milliBradPitt or mBP
Right that's enough silly acronyms and units for now. Maybe more later....
Advantages: interesting insight into a disturbing syndrome Disadvantages: truly harrowing, not everyone's cup of tea
..., determined to get to the bottom of Julie?s malaise. Sandy is on first name terms with the doctors because they visit so regularly. Mom slips Julie pills, Julie takes them because she gets headaches. Julie also doesn?t eat much apart from junk food, especially raw cake mixture. If Mom tells Julie she is ill, she must be, mustn?t she?
This is a story of Munchausen?s by Proxy (MBP) which is ?a pattern of child abuse where a caretaker fabricates or induces illness, symptoms or injury to a child (or pet, or a weaker person) in order to elicit medical attention and intervention?.
Sandy has her own Encyclopedia of Disease, Internal Organs and their Functions and tries to convince the doctor that Julie has a mysterious heart condition. Julie goes along with anything her mother tells her, she just wants Sandy to love her and not get mad. When...
Advantages: We learn of this illness Disadvantages: Sickening
...Sickened is a true-life first person account of a Munchausen by Proxy (HBP) victim and survivor.
Julie Gregory narrates her own shocking story of her dysfunctional childhood. A childhood dominated by illness and doctor?s visits, medical tests and procedures. A childhood filled with pain and misery. Julies mother is convinced that there is something seriously wrong with her daughter and is determined ?to get to the bottom of it?.
Julie?s heartbreaking tale tells of a family living in a trailer in southern Ohio. Her mother (Mom) has serious psychological problems, herself having suffered an appallingly abusive childhood and a war damaged father who is so totally dominated by his wife?s mood swings that he will beat and berate his children in order to appease his deranged and volatile spouse.
MBP is now known as one...

Speeds:
5.400RPM (standard - home computing)
7.200RPM (fast - workstation/games)
10.000RPM (extremely fast - gaming servers)
15.000RPM (rare drives - not SATA based)
Interface:
PATA (old format hard drives - usualy extinct)
ATA (fading format - still around, 100mbp/s)
S-ATA (quite popular - 150mbp/s)
S-ATAII (newest format - 300mbp/s) sometimes refered to as S-ATA-3G (some people beleive it transfers at 3GB's a second - not true)
This drive is SATA-II and will keep you in the technology ring for quite a wile, as long as you have a SATA-II compatible motherboard)
