...Sitting in McDonalds with the kids tonight it came to me. How the hell have I missed writing an op on this place? We've got one on the way to school and I pop in most weekdays even if it's just for a coffee on the way to school (morning head!) or an ice-cream on the way home for the kids. I know our local McDonalds inside out so I thought I'd enlighten you all. I was about 10 the first time I went into a McDonalds, I remember it was magical. Ronald McDonald himself came to cut the ribbon and the restaurant was declared open. We were all given a free burger and shake and it felt so cool to be eating 'American' food - McDonalds were in London for ages and my friend had had loads of them and told me about the delights of the Quarter Pounder, Chicken McSandwich and the wonderful sounding Big Mac. ...Introduction ~~ There everywhere, on high streets, retail parks – you name it its hard to go somewhere and not see the big yellow M and with it a greasy smell of burgers and chips. Yup I’m on about good old Maccy D’s. Not that you didn’t know that as it says quite clearly in blue writing. Here, I would like to give a description of some of the interesting features of McDonald's around the world. I always believe that a worldwide restaurant or fastfood chain should cater to the local tastebuds and in this area, McDonald's has gone a long way to doing that. I have visited Singapore several times now. It is a tiny Southeast Asian island country. ...I’m writing this a week and a half after the latest May Day riots. One of the primary targets of the rioting is McDonalds, and it’s not hard to see why. McDonalds are accused of going into countries and providing an exact replica of their American stores and trampling over local culture. They are accused of replacing the nutritious, tasty food that was there before with their cheap junk food. They are accused of selling meat (by the vegetarian protesters. I don’t think they deny this one). They are accused of paying awful wages to staff who can’t even do the job. They are accused of global capitalism on a grand scale, using their vast resources to put national fast and slow food chains out of business. I, however, love McDonalds. I think the most times I’ve been to McDonalds in one week is about 10. Let me tell you what I think... Read review

The company admitted that nobody went in and later decided to target children with TV advertising. It opened in the UK and has been expanding ever since. ...McCrap, Anyone? McDonald’s. That lovely American franchise that took the entire world by storm. First came the hamburger joints all over the States – gay brick buildings with red and yellow “Golden Arches” outside to celebrate their existences. An enormous clown with white pancake makeup and red hair was hired to advertise the burger chain. The next thing anybody knew, McD’s was unleashed on the rest of the free world. India and the UK are just a couple of countries who are host to this ghoulish, ghastly restaurant chain – to all countries who are suffering at the hands of the clown and his restaurants, I offer my sincere apologies. Advantages: Cheap, over 1,000 branches in the UK with many more abroad, good meal deals, special offers, new products launched all the time
Disadvantages: Food not of the highest quality, food isn't very nutritous, staff sometimes get orders wrong, not a huge choice, poor for vegetarians, new products often disappear after a month, they stopped making McDonald's Cola!

...McDonald's is the biggest fast food chain in the world. Started in the USA in the 1950s, it now has thousands of restaurants in over 100 countries around the globe. The first UK restaurant opened in January 1975 in Woolwich, London. The 1,000th UK restaurant was opened about a year ago now, so there will be over 1,000 reataurants in the UK. There are 3 in my town, Blackburn, one in the town centre which is the oldest and largest, a drive-through just near the football ground (what a brilliant place to put one-£££!), and another drive-through located out-of-town near a large retail park. Most medium sized towns seem to have about 3 branches, whilst smaller towns often have one and cities such as Manchester often have about 10! First a short history lesson. Burgers, Cheeseburgers, Big Mac, Double Cheeseburger, Fries and Shakes are probably found worldwide. Great tasting quick meal at a reasonable price. Reasonably price because for about 3 GBP you get a satisfying meal. In some areas McDonalds has salads, soups, ice cream, pancakes, eggs, etc. In my area some meals are put out as a promotion. They have a rib sandwhich, a steak sandwich, burritoes, etc. that come around for a brief period. McDonalds is all about food that tastes good, is fast, and at a price to please the most frugal!*** After going through a McDonald Drive-Thru for a bagel and coffee, I accidently spilled coffee on my crotch, and suffered burns. ...Paul McCartney’s ‘Back in the US’ concert tour of America in 2002 was captured on DVD. An icon of pop music, he changed countless lives and carved his name through whole cultures. Here he can be seen playing over thirty songs, live in front of huge audiences. Paul McCartney is a giant of musical creativity and a great singer and performer still rightly venerated by most of the world forty years after he first became famous. For those of us who were fortunate enough to have grown up in the 1960s there were other giants. John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, The Who, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin… the list goes on. ...In the Judean Hills, just outside of Jerusalem there is a small shopping mall that houses the world's first Kosher McDonald's. (Update: There's now another Kosher McDonald's in the new Ben Gurion Airport - see below - as well as one somewhere in Argentina.) But its not only just a Kosher McDonald's - its probably the McDonald's with the world's best view as well! As the sun sets at the end of the day, one can sit at huge picture windows that face Jerusalem and watch the city begin to twinkle as the lights flick on. In the daytime, these same hills, with their scattered patches of forest mingled with the homes that nestle amongst them are no less a delight to behold. One would think that this amazing view would be better reserved for a more posh, up-market restaurant - but no, the down-to-earth McDonald's shares this beautiful... Read review
