...Apart from a curious name, this is a top rank anti-virus software suite for your PC. I have been using anti-virus software for more years than I can remember (old age does that) and have used most major ones. I have been using McAfee for the last 5 years or so over 3 different versions. Virus protection has become much more serious these days as we rely more on PCs and the internet and you *must* have some sort of anti-virus software on your PC. *TIP* never connect to the internet without this sort of software installed and active. Currently I protect my home PCs with this product (and we use the same vendor at work too). I do not use the firewall or spam products as I have other provision for these. I was hugely disappointed when I suspected I had a problem, as my system was 'playing up' and odd things were happening - websites started to open up on my screen without my intervention, so I did an online check with Kaspersky. It found three worms on my system that were active, so I carried out a virus update, disconnected from the internet and did a full scan of my system - McAfee again not picking them up. It was set to scan all files, hidden included. I then scanned again with Kasperky online, and deleted the threats. I also don't personally like the way the products bundled with this package all work together (Firewall, Anti Virus, Anti Spam, Privacy Control, Shredder etc... Read review

...I used to be one of those trust my luck types when it came to Virus protection, then in 1997 I received a free Virus from a Magazine promo disc which caused me hours of pain. I then discovered McAfee Antivirus products and have had years of excellent support. With the arrival of broadband I suddenly found myself under attack again what should I do? My local PC store recommended that I use Norton Internet Security to solve my problems aaaahhhhh or should that be screeeeeeeeeeam, what they forget to tell you? Lets just say a complete system restore x3 later and Im back to square one, so back to the dealers no refund on Norton but advise from very talkative technician reveals that they are paid by Norton to promote their product but none of the Staff would ever dare to install it on their own PC’s……..great… So another £49.99 down... ...Now i have a problem, i do not know wether to recomend this as a buy or a miss, as a short reveiw.. i will list some features. Mcafee Security Suite 3.0 i think, its main feature would be its PC diagnostic, i wouldn't count on the anti-virus to pick up everything, but i'd well choose it over norton. Mcafee also has an error check, which i have to say was quite clever. Backup feature i didn't like, beacause i did not see the point.. i would back-up my stuff onto a CD. It also had a crash protection which i coudn't work out how it worked, but it seemed to do the job. Mcafee's Firewall is just absoloutly amazing, alot better then Zone alarm, it has a silent mode, and a smarter AI then zonealarm, it tries to check whats "riding" on the ports.. rather then just seeing if the port number is trusted or not. ...I have tried several Antivirus packages from freebies to norton and to date McAfee has proved to be quite effective. Price: I paid £29.99 for my version 8 on the high street following a severe infection onmy laptop last year. This appears to be a par price for Antivirus software these days be it Norton, Panda or McAfee. I guess that £29.99 to £39.99 is to be expected my biggest problem is the need to renew on a yearly basis. I assumed that the Auto updates would keep me protected, apparently not! Features: AOP or Always-on Protection: McAfee VirusScan automatically updates itself with the latest virus definitions on a regular basis you will see this via a tray icon. ...I have always used mcafee for virus scan/internet security, so naturally i upgraded to 2007 when my old suite was out of date. I have never had any problems with mcafee software up until now. It is a very thorough programme, entailing quickclean, virus check, adware/spyware detector, firewall, site advisor, data backup and spam killer. The best features of this programme are the site advisor and data backup. When you open internet explorer and search for something, it will let you know whether the sites are secure before opening them, also if they are very 'spammy.' A very handy feature. Data backup is great, you can archive all your important files onto external hard disk/dvd etc. My one gripe about this software is that it seems to take up alot of the systems resources, thus slowing down my laptop quite alot.
