...Mike & The Mechanics - Hits I am still busy transferring CD's to iTunes and I am getting to the last 100 or so now. This is a CD that my wife originally bought, one I had already purged for 'Living Years' so I have taken the opportunity to listen to it again, though from memory it was not great. I like the fact that in the inner booklet they state clearly that these 'hits' were hits in various places in the World, not just UK. The 'Hits' span 11 years from 1985 (Silent running) - 1996 (All I need is a Miracle '96). The band were/are: Paul Carrack (used to be in Squeeze) Paul Young (used to be in Sad Café), Paul died of a heart attack in 2000. ...MIKE & THE MECHANICS "Hits" - Relatively cheap to purchase these days ... I wouldn't pay anymore than £6.99 I am just listening to it as I write this ... very beneficial! This album is a collection of the bands hits from 1985 through to 1996 and includes songs that the band have experienced great success with in various regions of the world over an eleven year span. The album sleeve is fairly basic, with a cartoon design of a mechanic slumped asleep upon a tyre, resting upon his tool box in front of a gas filling pump. The inner sleeve is a 6-page booklet of photographs, along with a list of the tracks and information regarding the year they were produced and whom they were written by. ...I am now 17 years old, but I do still love watching the odd Thomas The Tank Engine story very ocassionly. I grew up watching it and I had, and still do have, most of the videos and story books. I was pleased to discover that the programmes and concept is still going strong. They are continuing to make new stories and introduce more characters, both of which have some positive and negative costs. I will write everything that I know about Thomas The Tank Engine and try and gives those of you who haven't seen it before, a good idea of what it all involves. Mechanical Manson

Advantages: Anthemic, accessible, good use of electronic wizardry
Disadvantages: A few poor, mundane, filler tracks

A slow, big fat bass line creates a rather 'sleazy' feel and this is supported by the lyrical innuendos- 'Cops and queers....to swim you have to swallow'. The song mainly deals with the self-disillusionment of drug abuse and the hypocrisy of a society that denounces narcotics and yet relies upon them in so many ways (for more, info, see Michael Moore!). The chorus is certainly memorable and catchy. Manson at his best. 9 out of 10 3. Mechanical Animals - The title track of the album. The first true 'rock' song of the album- a thumping drum and guitar intro. Manson takes time to comment on his incendiary nature- 'I was a hand grenade that never stopped exploding'. Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals

Advantages: Fantastic variation, and some of their best songs.
Disadvantages: Songs are all fantastic, but there's no real structure to album.

...A slower song, and nice introduction to the album. It sets the pace well with haunting lyrics and vocals that you can actually hear the words to. Guitars accompany Manson, slowly at first then build up to a more powerful beat at the end. Track 2 - The Dope Show A mid-tempo song with strange lyrics! Where the first song was much more serious, this one is a good track to introduce you into the stranger side of Manson's music. Track 3 - Mechanical Animals The title track has a nice guitar introduction, and a good chorus , but it doesn't really stand out to me. It definitely doesn't seem strong enough to be the title track hen compared with the other songs on here. Track 4 - Rock is Dead Another less than serious track. Tomy Thomas the Tank Engine, it's a true friend of kids

Advantages: A great toy in your child's collection.
Disadvantages: None in my opinion .

...Thomas the engine and it's friends are all very popular toy trains. My 22 month old son grew interested in these after watching their shows. He wouldn't ask for anything besides these trains. He also remembers all their names very well, Thomas being the foremost of them all. I have collected a whole series of Thomas engines and Tomy is one of those. It's a dark blue coloured engine with round eyes that attract the children. It's bottom is red and it has a steam outlet right on it's top. It works well with a set of tracks that are sold separately. It's size is also very appropriate. I think my son wouldn't part with it. He simply loves it and expresses that this is his best friend. Mine came in for 12 pounds. It's a very good bargain for this great toy. It's a one in itself toy that can keep your child busy for hours...

Advantages: Strong, exciting, thought provoking music
Disadvantages: Being on the same label as Lost Prohets may put some people off this band

...their music, and on this album show signs of remarkable display with their powering, always interesting and exciting music. There are many slabs of musical brilliance on display on this record, with many of the tracks shining through and sounding amazing. Tracks such as 'Standard Suburban Anthem,' 'Ladies and Gentlemen,' and title track 'The Western Mechanism' really do go down a treat with their energetic, emotional display of rocking excellence. Days of Worth really are a fine British rock band and are definitely a band that the UK should be proud to have. These tracks in particular show off the band's musical expertise, especially 'Ladies and Gentlemen.'
