...Mike & The Mechanics - Hits I am still busy transferring CD's to iTunes and I am getting to the last 100 or so now. This is a CD that my wife originally bought, one I had already purged for 'Living Years' so I have taken the opportunity to listen to it again, though from memory it was not great. I like the fact that in the inner booklet they state clearly that these 'hits' were hits in various places in the World, not just UK. The 'Hits' span 11 years from 1985 (Silent running) - 1996 (All I need is a Miracle '96). The band were/are: Paul Carrack (used to be in Squeeze) Paul Young (used to be in Sad Café), Paul died of a heart attack in 2000. Mike Rutherford (used to be in Genesis) Adrian Lee Peter Van Hooke Gary Wallis So, we have a high class and well connected line up, but what about the 'Hits'? ~~~The Tracks...

Mechanical Manson

Advantages: Anthemic, accessible, good use of electronic wizardry
Disadvantages: A few poor, mundane, filler tracks

..., there is a great deal of electronic synths and electric percussion used throughout the album giving it a semi-industrial feel. Manson does his usual 'dual vocal' style croak with the occasional scream thrown in for good measure. Although no one can really argue that Manson possesses one of the best voices in rock 'n' roll, his ability to convey utter contempt, sarcasm and arrogance through his delivery should be commended. Now the songs, 1. Great Big White World - Deals with the race issue in no uncertain terms here (notably how we live in a world controlled by white people). This song is full of anger, disillusionment and negativity- 'I'm not attached to your world, nothing heals, nothing grows'. The verses are slow and downcast. Mechanic Master is a puzzle game with over one hundred levels to work through, with many similarities in principle to the 1990s PC game, The Incredible Machine. Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals

Advantages: Fantastic variation, and some of their best songs.
Disadvantages: Songs are all fantastic, but there's no real structure to album.

...I think most people have heard of Marilyn Manson, and have a pretty fixed image of his style in their mind. Not afraid of wearing outrageous clothing and make-up, he has a definite eclectic theme to his style and music. However, if you're turned off by the thought of an album full of screaming, pointless metal, then think again. Never one to shy away from controversial topics, Marilyn Manson's lyrics are an either love them or hate them deal. If one was to take the time to read the lyric sheet (as even I'll admit trying to pick some of the words out is an impossible task) you'll find them sharp, and strong-willed. While they may not be to everyone's taste, they do speak to you. Though be warned of the heavy usage of swear words, this album is definitely worthy of its parental advisory sticker. A great cheap set of scales (Argos Value Range Mechanical Scale)

Advantages: Store away well, incredibly cheap and do the job
Disadvantages: Ugly looking

...a good size (24cm tall, 14cm deep and 16cm wide, the tray on the top of the scales is also reasonably deep (7cm) so you can get quite a lot in it (1.2 litres), they have a 11lb weighing capacity (I only ever go up to 1lb though) and overall I would say they are quite accurate. These scales also store away well, if you press down the bit that the tray sits on you can slot the scales inside the weighing tray so they are half the size & take up very little room in you cupboard. The only problem I have with these scales is the tray on the top of the scales wobbles about a little bit so it can be hard to get the pointer to sit on zero before you start weighing but other that that for £3.99 these are great scales. The other downside is that the scales are made out of a blue plastic (very cheap looking) definitely not something you would keep...

Days of Worth - The Western Mechanism

Advantages: Strong, exciting, thought provoking music
Disadvantages: Being on the same label as Lost Prohets may put some people off this band

...their music, and on this album show signs of remarkable display with their powering, always interesting and exciting music. There are many slabs of musical brilliance on display on this record, with many of the tracks shining through and sounding amazing. Tracks such as 'Standard Suburban Anthem,' 'Ladies and Gentlemen,' and title track 'The Western Mechanism' really do go down a treat with their energetic, emotional display of rocking excellence. Days of Worth really are a fine British rock band and are definitely a band that the UK should be proud to have. These tracks in particular show off the band's musical expertise, especially 'Ladies and Gentlemen.' Ipod shuffle 1GB

...I was brought one of these ipod shuffle, 1 gb for Christmas. Ｉhave previously owned an ipod nano and have to say that I much prefer the shuffle, I have found it much more easy to use and more easy to attach to my clothing whilst using it in the gym. The battery life lasts ages, at least 7 hours and can be charged up by a wide variety of methods so its very easy to do so whatever the circumstances. It holds approximately 240 songs which is adequate for my needs, and itunes makes it very easy to chop and change the tracks I want on there quickly by connecting to the computer by a usb cable. ...What can i say, to the Marilyn Manson lover this is just another masterpiece showing off the supreme genius that is Marilyn Manson. Featuring some truly great songs such as "The Dope Show" "Mechanical Animals" "I Dont Like The Drugs, But The Drugs Like Me" and "Coma White" making this a must have album for any true Marilyn Manson lover. As ever Manson manages to astound with his ongoing originality making all off his albums very different and mechanical animal is no exception. Lets not forget the brilliant insert cover and inlay design giving you stages of a coma which really shows originality. Even if it is a bit sedistic. I rate it a 9/10 album and a must have in your collection....
