...etc. I wished I had booked the Una Palace in Via Etnea, which looked brilliant. It is in the main shopping street with loads of cafes, bars, shops etc. and has a roof terrace which would give brilliant views of the volcano. I thought about moving hotels, but couldn't afford to pay again. My hotel room was very comfortable and clean with a modern bathroom with the usual toiletries. A reasonable buffet breakfast is included in the price. Room service seemed very restricted ? although the bar did toasted sandwiches. If you are on a tight budget, advance internet booking on Best Western's website gives good value for money for the Hotel Mediterraneo. However, I don?t think this hotel would suit everyone. It certainly wouldn't impress the girlfriend and I wouldn?t want my mother walking round there on her own at night. The streets were...

A good base from which to enjoy Madeira

Advantages: Clean, friendly staff, in good restaurant territory
Disadvantages: At the top of a great big hill, evening 'entertainment'

...situated for local eateries -there is a restaurant at the bottom of the hill it is on which is very relaxed with lovely food and wine. It is in two parts; one Italian type cuisine and one Indian. We ate in the Italian part a couple of times and enjoyed it. There is a very good restaurant, Mediterraneo around the corner on the top floor of the Lido shopping centre. Would recommend their 'steak on a stone' and their pizzas. Very friendly and helpful staff. During the day, we had lunch in a place nearer the front called 'qualifruita'. It was a fruit shop/cafe which sold the best fruit salad and freshly squeezed juices - from orange, to kiwi, to melon. Very good value for money and very healthy. Hotel Riudor Benidorm ~ Basic Good Value

Advantages: Location in Rincon de Loix near Levante Beach
Disadvantages: Noise from surrounding bars - but that's Benidorm!

...The Riudor is one of those sort of "standard" Benidorm hotels. The Location is rather good, its listed as being on the Avenida Mediterraneo, but that's only the address, the swimming pool area fronts onto the Avenida, whilst the real entrance is towards the back of the hotel in a small passageway there. Drop off points from the airport will always end up here, as there is then only about twenty metres from the coach or taxi to the hotel front entrance. Local taxis will always drop here also, they know where the entrance is! Levante Beach is only a few minutes walk, and most rooms at the hotel have some sort of sea view through the buildings from each of the hotel balconies. Bus stops into the Old Town and out of Benidorm are about 120 mteres and 160 metres away, turn right out of the hotel down the passage to the Avenida...

Gay Rome

Advantages: All the beauty and magic of Rome
Disadvantages: None

...particularly liked Hanger (Via in Selci 69). Popular with the young trendy set this Club manages to make do without a dark room, though it does show porn movies. Maxs Bar (Via Achille Grandi 7A) is also worth a vist and has recently undergone refurbishment. If Saunas are your thing then a visit to Mediterraneo (Via Pasquale Villari 3) is a must. Clean and well laid out this is on a par with any of the best saunas in Europe. Rome has it all and everyone should visit at least once....

I like "Mediterraneo" by Gabriele Salvatores very much. It always makes me feel fine and lets me spend a couple of hours with no worries. It is about a group of soldiers from the WW2 that are sent to a Greek island, then their radio breaks down and the Italian government and army "forget" them there. It is really funny, because it draws from the most common stereotypes of the Italian soldiers: they become friends (and sometimes more) with the Greek living on the island, they are disorganized and not martial at all. Advantages: Still Spanish, Nice and quiet but there are pubs and clubs if you want them
Disadvantages: depending what you are into, there may not much for you to do in the daytime.

After all of this, we went to the Mediterraneo, this is a fairly big shopping pricinct with shops like Mango, Zara and even Dorathy Parkins, you can pick up loads of bargain here. This was our favourite day out, it cost us 29euros each, which is about £20-23. There are plenty mor excursions to go on, but they would take me at least a week to tell you about them all.
