London Ciao Meet and Greet!
Advantages: Great to meet people from Ciao!
Disadvantages: Not veryone could make it!
...It's a Monday morning at work and I have just logged onto Ciao, today my guest book is hive of activity and I am overcome by all the lovely messages I have received from my fellow ciaoers about the London Ciao Meet.
The Beginning:
As many of you may know I have been planning The London Ciao Meet since July, I started off my informing my COT and then got them to spread the word around, at first I wondered what I had let myself in for as I had about 60 people expressing an interest, of course with anything like this not everyone is going to turn up, so I decided to book an area in a venue for about 30 people.
TheDuke was a great help to me during my planning and suggested to me that I should set up a Ciao Meet yahoo group for people to give ideas, I did this and believe it was helpful to those who where planning to stay over...

London Meet 2006
Advantages: Meet new people
Disadvantages: Price of beer in London
...It was around 4 years ago when my Finacee Jason (WormThatTurned) suggested going to a Ciao meet. I was still only a blue dot at the time and seemed to spend more time on Ciao putting my foot in it then 'making friends' so we decided against it. Four years on though and whilst I am still only a rubbish shade of purple I seem to have got more into the community side of Ciao and talk to quite a few members outside of Ciao.
It was the beginning of July when I first heard that Lizzie (Lizkempo) was planning a London meet. I quickly sent messages to all of my 'online friends' asking if they were going and in some cases I went as far as begging them to go (you know who you are!). Lizzie soon produced a review about the proposed meet and names of members wanting to attend soon started pouring in. A Yahoo group was set up to discuss the meet...

Hugs all round, at the 2006 London meet.
Advantages: Met some lovely people, Hugs all round.
Disadvantages: Didn't get to talk to everyone, and didn't hug a few people.
...the night before I just decided to wear my next jeans and a pink top I had bought about 7 years previously, but felt comfortable in.
SAT 28th OCT
TRAVELING TO LONDON
Well the day of the meet came around quite quickly, and before I knew it, the 28th Oct was here. I was very nervous, as it was the first time I had been to a meet; also I had been away from ciao for so long I didn't think anyone would even remember me.
The planned venue was for 12pm at the Picture and Piano somewhere between Covent Garden and Leicester sq tube stations. As my partner Mikey and I only live in Buckinghamshire the journey wasn't too bad, some members were coming from quite a bit further away, and some were making a weekend of it.
We left home about 10am hoping to be almost the first at the venue, because I don't like crowds and I hate walking in a room...

Ciao Meet
Advantages: Great to see everyone - hope to do it again soon
Disadvantages: None, other than cost and not being able to stay until the end
...I?m not sure this is really a Ciao meet ? I believe everyone present is on Ciao, though I think we all started on Dooyoo. The reality anyway is it was more of a Tooyoo meet, so I don?t feel so bad writing about it here!
Cast:
Fran (franl) ? crazy Yorkshire school housemistress
Iain Wear (sohoblack) ? long haired rocker
Chinny (chinnyli) ? small Chinese girl
Kate (ickkate) ? ickle, but not Chinese
Rochanne (goodasgold) ? ickle, not Chinese, and the only one younger than me
Jo (Jo1l) ? nurse from Yorkshire
[real name withheld] (teagirl) ? hungover
Myself (a-true-ben) ? the tall, dark and handsome hero of the story, naturally ;)
And a cameo by:
Steve (TJ-Mackey) ? lamp-post impersonator
I?m not sure exactly how it came about. I know most of the people involved had met before ? either in Yorkshire or previously in London...

Meet Me On The Corner
Advantages: Fun times, with friends new and old
Disadvantages: They all ended
....
Incidentally, this is being placed in the London Meet category, as most of the Meets I?ve been to have been in London, with me being a Londoner and all, even if very few of them were really Ciao Meets in the traditional, or official, sense.
My First Meet ? London ? early 2002. Memory loss prevents more accuracy than that.
People you may know: xelffx, MykReeve, TJ-Mackey.
OK, so I?m kind of cheating, as this was really only a Dooyoo Meet. In fact, it wasn?t even that. Xelffx had just about had enough of being overworked and underpaid, and headed from Scotland to London for a weekend break. She?d done something similar a few months before, but I hadn?t managed to meet her, as I?d not heard about it in time.
Although I have spent a great amount of time convincing people that attendance at a Meet is always going to be good fun...

Good London hotel in Kensington
Advantages: Excellent location and lovely clean hotel
Disadvantages: Staff could be a bit clearer about hotel details
...yourself to a full english, cereal, croissants and tea/coffee and juices.
Check out is by 12pm and again they will keep hold of your suitcases until you are ready to leave.
Overall there were a few minor glitches with our stay but the hotel was very nice and i would quite happily stay there again and recommend it to my friends
I paid £102 for our room for one night but if you are willing to risk waiting till a couple of days before your trip then you could pick up the same room for £65 which is a great price in the Kensington Area of london...

LEEDS MEET - 12 MAY 2007 - UPDATED
Advantages: You get to meet me
Disadvantages: ...you may regret meeting me
...Leeds Meet 12 May 2007
There has been a slight change of location for the Leeds Meet which will now take place at Aire Bar, 32-34 The Calls, Leeds City Centre. I have reserved a seating area between 1pm - 7pm on Saturday 12th May, so if you don?t fancy staying for the whole event you can pop in for an hour or so to at least show your face and meet some CIAO members. The venue is approx 10 minutes walk from both the bus and train stations and a map can also be obtained online at http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=leeds+aire+bar&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

Mini Meet at Borders June 2nd 2003
Advantages: A huge laugh and seeing Jami's shoes
Disadvantages: Our singing!
...Last night we had a mini meet at Borders in Oxford Street. But although there was only five of us, we made up what we were lacking in numbers by the amount of noise we made.
At about 4pm that day there was a flurry of emails and guestbook messages from and to me – “What are you wearing?” as this was my first meet. And as Brian would say, I was a Ciao meet virgin – but no longer!
So in order of (clothing) appearance here's who came:
There was me, black beret, white t-shirt, black and white skirt
Jami (Glitterprincess) had on her trademark gorgeous shoes and sparkly skirt
Claire (Care Bear) was present with a very sexy black and white dress
Eleni (aggapimou) with her J-Lo jeans, and Matt (mattlondon) with a trendy looking cream top with a zip at the side.
So after we worked out who was who we sat...

LONDON'S CALLING
Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room
...difficulties in access and room lighting I really enjoyed this stay at The Strand Palace hotel. It was extremely central to our needs, and offered polite helpful, knowledgeable staff. It was very clean throughout and I will have no hesitation in booking here again. I am gradually getting more mobile so I can now manage a few steps: however, if you are mobility impaired and by yourself this hotel might be best avoided.

The Living Room - London Heddon Street
Advantages: Great venue, great choice!
Disadvantages: please water the christmas tree!
...Having been reccomended The Living Room as a place to eat I booked my work christmas lunch at The Living Room in Piccadilly (Heddon Street). There was a set menu for pre-bookings which was £35 per head for a three course. We did not have to book in advance just pay £5 per head deposit (which is then taken off the bill).
We arrived on time and were seated straight away upstairs. We had a table that was plenty big enough for our party of 8 (although one person couldn\'t come at the last minute). The menu looked fantastic is was hard to decide what to choose. In each of the starter and main options there was two meat, a fish and a vegetarian option. Starters: Butternut squash soup, muchroom ravioli and rissotto, pork roulade or smoked salmon. Mains: Traditional Turkey, 7hr braised beef, Seabass or baked goats cheese. Deserts...
