This film starts with a bang, literally, on the beaches of World War 2's historic D-Day invasion, a very intense and moving scene. If you are at all squeamish this is not really a film for you as, the beginning in particular and actually much of the rest of film is brutal and bloody and features blood, guts and missing limbs, however it is so good and so powerful you should look past all the gore to experience this wonderful movie. Advantages: A very poignant movie

Probably its greatest achievement is that it manages to highlight how brutal the D-day landings were whilst still managing to entertain you with both solid performances and plenty of action. Although the premise of saving Private Ryan may feel a bit thin, in hind sight a much more detailed and heavy story may have detracted from the overall enjoyment and effectiveness of the movie. Although the special features on the DVD are not as extensive as some DVDs, they are of a decent quality that adds to the overall enjoyment of the film, rather than a cheap attempt to persuade us to spend a few extra pennies. Advantages: Hilarious, entertaining, one-of-its-kind, different, easy to read.
Disadvantages: Book doesn't last you very long.

...I have been a fan of Meg Cabot's novels for quite some time now. I enjoyed every one of her teen and adult books, excluding The Princess Diaries which I never really liked. As soon as I heard about Airhead I had to buy it. The synopsis sounded intriguing so I wanted to find out what it was about. Meg Cabot's books are very easy to read in my opinion, so it was a quick entertaining read. Not much can be said about the novel without giving away the plot. All I can say is that Em is a very ordinary girl. She loves to play video games with her best friend, Christopher, and despises the "Walking Dead" in her school (the fake, plastic girls). Unfortunately her younger sister is a Walking Dead In Progress and none of her advice seems to make a difference. ...I was, in my opinion, EXTREMELY lucky that I read this book after "The Guy Next Door - Meg Cabot" Purely because this happens to be the second book in a series, and I had luckily already read the prequel to this book without even knowing that they are somewhat linked. But when I opened the book I realised it was in the same sort of context and structure... Emails... Anyway they had previous main characters coming up represented as minor characters this time, and it brought forward the minor characters from the last book as major characters, so it was a complete reversal. ...I saw this with my 3 brothers when it was released. It was the first time i've ever sat all the way through and not uttered a sound until the film was finished. That's saying something. the film was incredible in the cinema. Next watching was on DVD. the whole film all the way through with no breaks. again, the film was awesome. And today i've just seen it again on the TV. The film does get better each time I see it. I notice more and more things, recognize more actors and notice more mistakes. Things that annoy me. Hanks salutes his superior when he goes for his "find Ryan" briefing but his translator is chastised for doing the same, why?
