...Review of 3 Action classics ?We Were Soldiers, Mad Max and Lethal Weapon? DVD, starring Mel Gibson.. This is a boxed DVD set, which I must admit had been sitting unwatched and ignored in the cupboard for some time. I believe the set was a Christmas Gift to my other half a few years ago, which we never got around to watching, probably because we already owned a couple of the movies as single dvds! The set consist of three popular Mel Gibson movies, on three individual discs. They comprise of 'We Were Soldiers', 'Mad Max' and 'Lethal Weapon'. The box is really rather uninteresting, just three pictures of Gibson in each of the movies on the front and a small amount of information about each film on the reverse, along with information about directors and classification. What IS It with Mel Gibson and Blue Paint?

Advantages: Visually stunning, slick chase sequences
Disadvantages: Far too gory, dodgy religious overtones, possible disservice to Mayan culture

...The latest offering from director Mel Gibson, ?Apocalypto?, is a historical action-adventure set in ancient Maya culture. I knew very little about the film before I watched it, other than the genre and that it had had some comparisons to prey-turned-hunter films such as ?Predator? and ?Rambo?. Mel Gibson Plays Hamlet

Advantages: great cast, well acted, lovely to watch

...I studied Hamlet for A-level English Literature and really enjoyed it. As part of the course, we got to see it performed live and watched several film versions of it, all of which were very good. Advantages: fun, stylish, often insightful

..."Spook Country" takes place in the same universe as Gibson's excellent Pattern Recognition, and the Blue Ant agency with its mover and shaker Hubertus Bigend who moved stealthily behind scenes in that novel figures prominently in this one as well. Thus, comparisons are almost inevitable. I have to say that I liked the new offering significantly less, although it's still a very enjoyable read, especially for a fan. "Spook Country" brings the virtual reality (or something closely resembling that) out of the confines of the cyber and into the realspace. Instead of VR there is a seamless blend of digital images and physical space, anchored using Internet and the GPS grid.
