Not a Memory to Keep
Advantages: Good story, some good performances
Disadvantages: Mulroney isn't great, the aging process through the film
...I am a bit dubious about whether or not books being turned into films is a good idea. It is either a massive success as with the Harry Potter franchise (for the most part anyway), or its a complete disaster like with The Da Vinci Code. So when I saw in the library that the book "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" had been turned into a film, albeit a television movie, I was a bit apprehensive. I had hated the book and stopped reading a few chapters in, so my curiosity got the better of me and I just had to watch to see if it was as bad as the book.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter tells the story of Dr. David Henry and a terrible secret he hides from his wife Nora. The book begins in the 1960's, and Nora is heavily pregnant. She soon gives birth to a healthy baby boy Paul, but then gives birth to a suprise twin sister to Paul, but David is...

Won't stay in my memory
Advantages: Intriguing story, could have been a great book
Disadvantages: let down by the writing.
....
THE MEMORY KEEPERS DAUGHTER
KIM EDWARDS
INTRODUCTION
I had read some good reviews of this book, so I was looking forward to reading it. As I read the beginning of the book I found myself hooked by the story line. Unfortunately, as I read on, I felt a deep sense of disappointment. I'll explain why I felt this way even though I thought that the story was amazing.
THE STORY
It is 1964, Norah and David Henry are in the middle of an atrocious snowstorm, to make matters worse Norah is ready to give birth to twins. Due to the severe weather conditions Norah's obstetrician is unable to get to her. The couple though are not TOO worried. David is a doctor and Norah's doctor's practise nurse Caroline Gill is ready to help out.
Caroline Gill though has a secret, and that secret is that she...

Memory Keeper's Daughter: the pain of secrets
Advantages: interesting and thought-provoking idea, very readable
Disadvantages: lacking in the delivery in some aspects, drags towards the end, some characters underdeveloped
...I read The Memory Keeper's Daughter following a recommendation from family members. I was, if anything, a bit put off by it being one of Richard and Judy's picks, as I'm not really a fan of Jodi Picoult-esque writing, but the beginning of the book was very gripping so I put my prejudices aside!
The book is about a doctor who, when his wife gives birth to twins, makes the decision to give away one of them who is born with down's syndrome. He gives the child to his nurse, instructing her to take her to a special hospital/home where she can be raised appropriately, however on taking her there the nurse decides she can't leave her there and takes her home.
David, the doctor, makes the poorly thought out decision to tell his young wife that the baby died, underestimating the heartache and grief that this will cause. Indeed she never...

Magical Memories
Advantages: Allows you to keep track of babys development
Disadvantages: Need to allow ink to dry properly before moving to next page
...the children know just how wonderful they were as the grew and developed.
When I was expecting baby Jack I spent a lot of time looking around for a nice memory book, I wanted something a little extra special, both the other children had lovely memory books and I wanted his to be just as special. I stumbled across the Baby Record Keeper & memory Box while shopping on Amazon one day, it looked lovely and had the added feature of a memory box attached, I'd not seen another like it and so decided that it was the memory book Jack just had to have.
The Baby Record Book & Memory Box, designed by Kerren Barbas, is made of a sturdy card outer cover and memory box with high quality and high sheen paper for the inner pages, in beautiful pastel shades it is appropriate for both girls and boys. The memory box is directly attached to the memory book...

The FIRST Sister's Keeper!! The true story
Advantages: Kathy Bates acting skills
Disadvantages: A bit slow and choppy
... MY SISTERS KEEPER
2002
This is a film only review
There seems to be a little confusion with this film.
This category is actually for the 2002 film directed by Ron Lagomarsino and starring Kathy Bates and Lynn Redgrave and not the more recent film by the same name directed by Nick Cassavetes starring Cameron Diaz and Alec Baldwin
This film is a completely different story and is based on a true story of the same name (Not the Jodi Picoult novel) written by Margaret Moorman.
The story of the film is tragically like that of Ms Moorman's own life.
When Margaret Moorman's older sister, Sally, was first hospitalised with schizophrenia in 1959, her family denied the truth to neighbours, friends and even to themselves. It was only thirty years later, when their mother's death made her Sally's sole carer...

Families have secrets they hide even from themselves
Advantages: Wonderful and emotional story
Disadvantages: Slow and dragged out in the middle section
...that their baby girl had died.
But Caroline has been waiting for something amazing to happen to her all her life. Not being able to leave the baby in an impersonal home which is full of diseased and mental people, she makes a decision that will change her life forever as well as the lives of Phoebe's new and old families.
~ My Opinion ~
As soon as I read the blurb of The Memory Keeper's Daughter I knew this was something I wanted to read, having recently gotten into similar books such as Jodi Picolut's novels. Plus there was a comment on the front of the book by Picoult herself saying 'simply beautiful' which made it even more positive for me as I love Picoult's writing and so thought this must be a great read.
The storyline is an emotional and amazing one showing us the lives of two separate families with a very strong...

A Classic Memory...
Advantages: Sound Quality, The Features...
Disadvantages: The Podcast Feature Is A Little Useless...
... iPod Classic 160 GB
iPods , the most amazing gadgets of all time. Who would have ever beleived that such a small mod con could hold so much memory and so much to explore. The family of iPod'swhich include the smaller yet impressive iPod Shuffle which runs on flash memory , the even more interesting iPod Nano which includes a video screen which holds 8 GB memory models , and it this just gets better because the next iPod in the family is the absolutely amazing iPod Classic which can even hols up to an impressive 160 GB of memory which is just unbelievable for an almost palm sized mp3 player, you just have to agree these are just so amazing. I bought my iPod from my cousin for a very good price of £150.00 , considering they are around £250 if you purchase them in a shop or online...

This One's a Keeper
Advantages: Covers a modern and important issue fully, great characters
Disadvantages: The cover!
...I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I bought My Sister's Keeper: I'd read reviews saying how great it is, but the cover seems designed to appeal to women who like the kind of sentimental 'chick lit' that I can't stand. Or maybe I dislike it just because I'm not a great fan of children. The last thing I was expecting was a debate concerning various issues of 'designer babies' that would challenge my own opinions and present the issue in a refreshingly different light. Well, it wasn't exactly the last thing because I read Vanishing Acts before I got this one, but you get the idea - I was very pleasantly surprised.
The first thing that sets this novel apart from others is that it tells the story through different characters using a first person narrative, conveying how they think and feel without revealing the whole story at once...

My sister's keeper- An emotional family drama
Advantages: emotional, one to be seen with family, decent performances
Disadvantages: a bit slow and sad
...My sister keeper is director Nick Cassavetes' latest offering after his critically acclaimed Alpha Dog and hugely popular The Notebook. Nick sticks to his strength-unfolding an emotional drama on screen. If notebook was for lovers, this one is certainly for the families(which is a rarity in today's hollywood)
My Sister's keeper is a story of a family of 5.The film starts with Anna(Abigail Breslin) narrating her journey into this world, letting us know that she was genetically engineered so that her blood cells can be used to treat her elder sister who suffered from leukemia-a form of cancer.
The audience is at a fix when young Anna goes to a lawyer to file a case against her parents accusing them of using her body parts against her own will to save her sister. The film essentially deals with Kate's fight with cancer and how it affects...
