...I stayed in Mendoza for 4 nights, and enjoyed my time there. One of the main things I noticed was the low price level - especially if you are travelling from the UK. This is a huge advantage that Argentina has at the moment, and it means that you can get by very comfortably on £20/day. There are 3 main reasons that I can see to visit Mendoza: food (especially steak), wine and as a gateway to the Andes. The steaks are absolutely superb, as well as being great value for money - you won't find a better or cheaper chunk of beef anywhere in the world. Mendoza is also famous for its many wineries, and you can easily cycle round a few of them as a day trip (if you are energetic), taking advantage of free samples... Ski?

Advantages: Great skiing trails!
Disadvantages: Not for the olds!

...Valle de las Leñas means valley of the wood. But don't worry it doesn't mean that there are no good trails! It?s an important Argentinean ski resort that owns 60 km of trails that are for ski and it's about 2250 and 3430 mt over the sea level. Besides, it has a good portion of surface to practice ski away from the trails. from Europe it's easy to get there from a scheduled flight to Buenos Aires and from the same airport, Ezeiza, to Malargue (Las Leñas) or San Rafael(province of Mendoza), but this are not very often so the best thing is to change airport and go to the Jorge Newbery airport instead. It would take 45 minutes in a coach or bus, so I think that Buenos Aires worth a day there and then from Newbery airport to Malargue airport on a charter flight (no worries! they belong to the main airline!) it would take an hour...

...Just Cause is an exciting action game for the Playstation 2 which is like another GTA based game and is developed by Eidos. In the game you are the excellent character Rico Rodriguez who is sent to San Esperito Island and your job is to get rid of the evil dictator called Salvador Mendoza which allows you to have some fun on the missions! Masterful Malbec at a Miserly Price

...I'll cut to the chase to give you want you probably want to hear. I have uncovered a very well crafted, everyday red wine that is very wallet and palate pleasing. The red in question hails from Argentina and is Argento Malbec, vintage 2007, which is widely available at a number of supermarkets. I found it on the shelves at Tesco and it is presently on offer in their wine festival at £3.99 (full price of £5.99) but remains great value at the full price, so all in all a complete bargain when on offer. ...Noticing that no-one has written about this for an age I thought I'd do a Tickly Special on this. It's my favourite radio show - Steve Wright in the afternoon and it's hosted weekdays between 2 - 5pm. This is presented by Steve Wright (obviously), Janey Lee Grace, Tim Smith with contributions from Miles Mendoza and Sally Traffic, not forgetting Old Woman (on mondays). I've been listening to this show on a daily basis since last summer. Sometimes it gets a bit lonely in my office so I talk to the radio instead (to date it hasn't answered me back). The show isn't old-fashioned in the slightest as sometimes perceived to be. Usually the response when someone walks in when I have this on is "what station is this?" or "god I remember that - who are you listening to?". Wright on probably

Advantages: Free, fun, easy going
Disadvantages: maybe a wee bit old fashioned

...As a BBC World Service addict, I end up listening to most of their programmes, sometimes even the ones I don't like much. Steve Wright (formerly of "in the afternoon" fame) has a good one though. If you are living in a mud hut somewhere, you might even find it "kewl". Wright has an unusual style, even when he's taking the ... he's never offensive, he's likeable and often funny. The prog (as aging DJs say) has slots for "making friends" - a penpal type of thing where Abdul in Peshawar can link up with Mina in Bangalore or Jose in Mendoza. It's very much for young people, and as such seems immensely popular with them. Even so, cynical old crones like me can still enjoy his style, the lightheartness of it all, and the obvious enjoyment of his devoted fans. ...At the moment, Argentina is an incredibly cheap place to visit, but even at US/European prices it would be worth going. It really does have every kind of feature you could ask for, and though you might have to travel around a bit to take advantage of this, that's a small price to pay. I visited Beunos Aires, Mendoza and Las Lenas, staying 3 weeks altogether, and was filled with good impressions. Argentinian people are very friendly and approachable, and the lone traveller will have no problems meeting people, especially in hostels. As an English-speaker though, I would warn others that you won't be able to rely on English as you would in Europe - basic Spanish is a bare minimum to enjoy an Argentinian trip.
