Menorca, a family paradise?

Advantages: Scenic, quiet family orientated beaches, short travel time.
Disadvantages: Expensive, maybe too quiet for some.

...When booking our first family holiday abroad, we wanted somewhere quiet and not a 'party' resort. We also wanted somewhere with a short flight time. Menorca (or Minorca) fit the bill. It was described in the brochures as a quiet island with lovely beaches, and was a 2 hour flight from the UK. We decided to book a package holiday so that we had someone to hold responsible if something went wrong with any aspect of it. We booked through First Choice and paid £1450 for a weeks self catering for 2 adults and 4 children the 2nd week of July. We booked a 2 bed apartment. THE APARTMENTS The apartments were called Mestral and Lleibeig Apartments in the southern resort of Santo Tomas. We had a 2 bed apartment that slept 6 people, 2 on a sofa bed. Cala N Bosch- Menorca

Advantages: Great sights, lovely weather, fantastic location

...Hi there! I have just returned back today from Menorca, and had such a fantastic time, I wanted to share my experience in case anyone is looking for a brilliant holiday in the near future. Myself and my partner arrived in Mahon (the recently made capital of Menorca) on 4th May 2007. We were travelling with Thomas Cook, and had booked a week in the Valentin Star Hotel (4*) located in Cala N Bosch on the South west Coast of Menorca. We had booked half board, which also included in flight meals. Booking about 6 months in advance, and booking online via the internet, the entire package for 2 of us cost the bargain price of under £500! I believe we saved about £400 by booking online. When it rains in Menorca......

Advantages: peaceful
Disadvantages: .....almost too peaceful

...I didn't have the greatest experience in Menorca, which I can partly blame myself for due to the lack of planning along with a desperate urge to get away from the 9-5. However, I can't be held completely responsible. Perhaps some of you can even learn from my mistakes......I know I have! The plan was a last minute get away, short flight, somewhere peaceful and sunny, that was easy on the pocket. Not too much to ask for.....so I thought. The first mistake I made was the timing. Me and my mother flew out to Menorca on the 2nd October for a week, this was 2 weeks before the end of season. The weather in Menorca can be quite unpredictable at this time of year, which is always useful in hindsight. For the first time ever as the plane took off, I had to shut the plane window, to protect my eyes from the blinding Manchester sun...

Why I keep going back to the Sur Menorca

Advantages: Excellent place for young children.
Disadvantages: Quite a way from the main village, but reflected in the price.

...My children and I have been to the Sur Menorca 4 times and currently trying to book for next year. It's a basic hotel, it isn't 5-star, so don't expect luxuries, but it's clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly, especially the receptionists. The pool areas are generally very clean, although in the summer it is often very busy at the main pool. However, just behind the apartment block is a very big toddler's pool, very safe for the young children, and right next to the play area. My children spend most days in that area and I can relax while they find plenty to do. The food is a bit repetitive, especially if you're there for 2 weeks, but it's clean, fresh and the platters are replaced regularly during meal times. Again, don't expect gormet food, it's basic, there's a big selection of salad, and usually one or two meat...

Menorca - Island Of Dreams

...About four years ago I went to Menorca for a two week holdiday. We went HalfBoard to a hotel called the Admirante Faragate. I have not been abroad that much but this was the best holiday I have ever been on. Two weeks of sun, sand and , but I wont go into that. The beaches were out of this world and the people were very welcoming. The was no yobs or anything like that and you felt very safe walking about at night. We stayed on the west side of the island in a place called Cala Forcat. There are allot of beaches and coves that are out of this world and it is so relaxing. The price for food and drinks are very reasonable. I would reccommend a holiday to Menorca any day....

Menorca, for those people who like peace!

Advantages: family friendly holiday, loads of things to do!
Disadvantages: not enough time to do everything!!

...Ok, here i am writing a review of our most recent holiday to Menorca. We had planned it months in advance, and had used a Thomas Cook for almost everything ( to their credit they were surpisingly good and reliable with the bookings, but i'm not writing a review about them so...) On the day we were set to leave it was, in true English style pouring with rain, and this made us eager to leave this country and fly off to somewhere nice and warm. Arrived at Mahon airport, and yes it was BOILING!!! Mahon airport is quite far from most of the holiday destinations so we had a 1.5 hour trip ahead of us, but this gave plenty of time to admire the stunning views and scenery the country has. We stayed at a place called 'Playas Des Fornells', and we stayed in a self catering villa. The area has around 70 villas, with a swimming pool, snooker...

Menorca- Why Not To Go In Late October !

Advantages: Unspoilt, pretty, easy to explore, good for families
Disadvantages: Like ghost town at end of season

...No doubt about it. Menorca is a lovely little island. Great for families, unspoilt by high rise buildings and just the right size to have a good nosey around. People told us it was a great place to holiday, and so did the travel agent. What they didn't tell us is that if you go in the October half term holiday, then the island is already closing down for the season ! The holiday wasn't cheap. You expect that at school holiday times. However, you do expect to get value for money. When we arrived, some shops and restaurants had already closed. As the week progressed, more followed until eventually, there was nowhere left to eat ! It's not that there weren't any people there either. We stayed at the Oasis Park apartments in Cala'n Forcat and it was virtually full. We even struggled to get cash out of the ATMs as they had been...

Shangri la, i have found you.

...Where is Shangri la? I was always led to believe it was the perfect place to be. Shangri la in India, (Nepal) or would it be Pennsylvania in the USA? Both have places named after it. So do a few others. I have found mine and it is not in a place you would expect. Its in Minorca or Menorca however you want to spell or pronounce it. For the purpose of this review I will refer to it as Minorca. Minorca is part of a collection of islands called the Balearics. There are four islands, Minorca being the second largest. The well known Majorca being the largest and Ibiza, and Formentura making up the collection of four. This island lies in the Western Mediterranean.   It is my Island so PISS OFF

Advantages: A superb Family Island which caters for a quieter holiday than say Ibiza.
Disadvantages: If you are teenagers or in your twenties and like loud music and a hectic holiday with lots of casual sex - give it a miss.

...Please excuse the title, but it is my island it is idylic and you are not welcome. Of course there is no harm in telling you about it, cos you wont see it! This year will be our 3rd Package Holiday to the Magnificent Balearic Island of Menorca. We have stayed in Binnibecca and Cala Galdana and we have visited Mahon and Ciutadella. We are going again of course this year, in July. This year we are going to Punta Prima and no it is not where the Designer of a certain Italian Car was born, at least I don’t think so. Holidays don’t you just love them? Why do we need them? Go on them? Look forward to them? For me it’s the escapism. A desire to get away from the rat race called life and to spend 2 weeks of quality time with my wife and two children, oh I forgot to mention that we are going (again) with the outlaws...
