Mercedes 300TD Reliability an urban myth

Advantages: Performance, Economy and good motorway car
Disadvantages: Severe corrosion problems, mechanically unreliable after 100,000 miles

...I bought my 1997 E300TD in 2005, with about 100k mikes seduced by the image of quality, reliability and longevity. All went reasonably well for the 1st 12 months as I enjoyed the comfort, performance and relative economy from the big car on long motorway journeys. However it was all about to change...the alloy wheels were restored at 115k as they had corroded. Then the front spring hangers rotted and had to be welded at 128k, by 135k the front crossmember had rotted away and needed welding; both of these serious issues M-B repaired under warranty. By now the wheel arches started to bubble with tell tale rust, and I used a Smart repair operation to repair (£475), as the local M-B dealer quoted £3,500 !!!. Good tip here from the Smart repair company; (when the car is bone dry wire brush behind the wheel arch rim and fill...

Mercedes 300E - A Good Car to Own

Advantages: Powerful, Solid & Safe, Low Mainenance and comfortable
Disadvantages: Higher fuel, insurance costs

...The Mercedes 300E is definately a car to buy if you are considering buying a second hand car. This 6 engine inline E-Class has been one of the most popular model in the Mercedes range. It combines balance, smoothness, power, reliability and value. The engine is 3L. The car comes standard with leather, wood finish and a range of luxury fittings for a car of this range like electric windows, central locking alarm, electric mirrors. The model that I have comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Even running at top speeds of 140miles, the 300E is stable and is an impressive performer. The handling feel of the car is superb. The ride is normally wonderfully smooth and the precise steering makes the driving experience more enjoyable. I have had this car for more than 10 years now and have had not major problems with the car...

Mercedes S320, series 300SEL W140 1993

Advantages: Very high build quality, silent running, prestige, badge, lush, solid, fast, sumptuous.
Disadvantages: Difficult to park, dealer will empty your bank balence, large car - small....... !

...Mercedes 300SEL , S320 Limo 1993. How I acquired the vehicle? In my course of work (Mobile vehicle mechanic) I meet a lot of people in the trade. Because of this, I get the nod when any quality vehicles turn up in the scrapper (for what ever reason they were scrapped).... many times this is down to un-economic repair costs. Which are for this beast, astronomical? ...well if you are prey to main dealer prices and practices, cars like this will never be owned by the 'less well offs' and I include myself in that statement. It's better to be lucky than rich sometimes. For me, it's a case of; sod the usual car buying outlets and get your self down the scrapper. Lucky for me then! On first inspection of this car in the breakers yard, I was shocked by its size; it was huge, damaged, covered in dust + thick mud caked the wheel...

Beautiful Mercedes

Advantages: Fuel Economy

...the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 1.8 tdi cant offer! The internal styling of the C-class is unfortunately not as exceptional as its fuel economy. The boring fake wood and neverending dark leather and plastic does not harmonise with the beautifully curved exterior body, and many friends have commented on how dissapointinly unluxurious the interior is. I do believe this is mercedes' downfall when comparing it with Audi and BMW! The C220 cdi will set you back about £20000 on the road if you bought a new one today. However a second hand 2000 model would cost about £13000 with about 30000miles. This shows the excellent depreciation value that mercedes' have, and when your spending £20000 on a car its all important. Another aspect when considering price is the spare parts cost. Unfortunately spare mercedes parts are not cheap and the expertise...

MERCEDES C220 CDI HAS FLARE AND COMES ABOVE AVERAGE

Advantages: SMOOTH RIDE, HANDLES WELL , PRESTIGE BADGE
Disadvantages: NIGGLES CAN BE EXPENSIVE ,BUY THE FACELIFT MODEL

...about it although every other Taxi is fast becoming a Mercedes diesel.!! The car never surprised me on speed off the mark but from 70 onward it did seem too fly with ease.Once I had started the engine from cold and woke the street up with the "clack-clack" it did please me ,as when warmed up and at normal Motorway speeds it went along qiutely without having to have the radio / cd up too loud. The finish of these vehicles is very good with soft plastics and Leather being used and the wind noise is very negligable at any speed. I did find the seats a little unsupportive and I wish I had gone for heated seats on the more cold winter mornings as the heater took an age to get up too a warm blow. The economy with the Diesel engine and Automatic gears seemed ok on long journeys but I saw a difference of MPG when you go over 65mph in comparison...

300TE-24valve. Better than an MPV

Advantages: Space, Pace, Class, built like an outhouse
Disadvantages: Petrol Consumption, hard to find the spec you want

...With the birth of our 4th child last year, I need a car with 6 seats. I had a budget of £6,500. The best MPV i could get for that was a 1993 Renault Espace with a smoky engine, ripped cloth seats and tatty loose fittings. Comparing parts and service prices between that and Mercedes showed very little difference and the Mercedes E Class estate drives an awful lot better. I ended up with a more powerful model than I intended with a 240+ bhp 300TE-24valve Sportline from 1991. This car may be 12 years old now and have 150,000 miles under its belt but when it was new in 1991 it cost over £40,000. It was built well and still has no rattles or squeeks (apart from the baby seat!), cleans up beutifully and does not look its age at all. It has proved relatively reliable, very comfortable, safe, swift and has very low depreciation now. I...

Mercedes A160 - All things, for all men

Advantages: Interior Space, Visibility, Excellent engine & transmission
Disadvantages: Looks a bit like Camilla Parker-Bowles, head on.

...I have to admit I did do something wrong when watching this film. I happened to have watched "Meet The Spartans" before I watched this, so I kind of already knew the plot and sort of seriously got bored with this film, as I was expecting the funny bits come leaping out, unfortunately there was no funny bits and it was deadly serious, so at first I couldn't understand it but then I settled down to it however I have to admit I really do prefer the soundtrack over this film! The Director of the film is Zack Snyder, who is quite a new director and has only directed 3 films, "300" "Dawn Of The Dead" (Which I really do want to watch) & "Watchmen" (Which I'm not too sure about), he is not only a director but he is also a Producer and a writer!
