Mercedes CLK 230 Kompressor Coupé
Advantages: A super stylish motor car
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Once again, a review of a discontinued model (!), but here are my thoughts on my 1999 Mercedes CLK 230 (W208) Kompressor Coupe, in Elegance trim.
Bought in 2001, with one previous owner (originally registered in 1999 so its an "S" reg) and 25,000 miles, my CLK has now done 72,000 miles and is soon to be sold as the baby seat doesn't fit in the back !
Mine is the 230K (4 cylinder, 2,295cc), and turns out 197 bhp with a 0-62mph time of 9.5 seconds (the manual is a claimed 9.1 seconds, as opposed to my 5 speed automatic) on its way to a top speed of 136mph - although I clearly couldn't claim to have ever gone that fast, officer.... Also available is a 3.2 V6, a 4.3 V8, and the ultimate, the CLK55 AMG high-performance model.
The "Elegance" trim means walnut wood inlays in the doors and centre console, plus a chrome strip around...

Mercedes 320 SLK
Advantages: Lots of admiring glances
Disadvantages: People don't let you out of junctions !
...I bought a 320 SLK after many trips to the local Mercedes garage and after test driving a few CLKs and the new Coupe. The SLK was the only one I got out of with a smile on my face, and it was a big one! So rather than buy one big CLK to load up with miles I bought a 1.2 Corsa for running around and an SLK for nice days.
Performance is enough to get you into trouble in the wet but the traction control always kicks in before you realise you've even had a problem. The flashing light on the dash tells you you almost did! The sound from the engine is fantastic - especially with the roof down - it's like being in a computer game.
Handling isn't quite what I'd expected. I'd had a couple of BMW coupes before and the SLK feels a bit bouncy compared to them - comfy rather than taught. The brakes are fantastic though (they sense...

Beautiful Mercedes
Advantages: Fuel Economy
Disadvantages: Interior
...the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 1.8 tdi cant offer!
The internal styling of the C-class is unfortunately not as exceptional as its fuel economy. The boring fake wood and neverending dark leather and plastic does not harmonise with the beautifully curved exterior body, and many friends have commented on how dissapointinly unluxurious the interior is. I do believe this is mercedes' downfall when comparing it with Audi and BMW!
The C220 cdi will set you back about £20000 on the road if you bought a new one today. However a second hand 2000 model would cost about £13000 with about 30000miles. This shows the excellent depreciation value that mercedes' have, and when your spending £20000 on a car its all important. Another aspect when considering price is the spare parts cost. Unfortunately spare mercedes parts are not cheap and the expertise...

Mercedes SLK 230
Advantages: Very stylish, nice to own and drive.
Disadvantages: Very little luggage space with the roof down.
...We purchased our first SLK in March 1998. The first sports car we had owned. It was sitting there in the local Mercedes dealer's showroom and following a test drive we decided to buy it.
At the time, this Mercedes dealership afforded a first class service and was a pleasure to deal with, but more about that in another opinion.
What a brilliant piece of engineering this car was with it's folding roof, watching the whole thing disappear into the boot at the touch of a button.
The bodywork was finished in silver with a black leather interior, the best combination, in my opinion. It had the standard 7 spoke polished alloys fitted and again, these 16" wheels suited the car really well. Later styles of 16" wheels fitted to the facelift SLK 230 are not so appealing in my view.
Out on the road the super-charged 4 cylinder engine...

MERCEDES C220 CDI HAS FLARE AND COMES ABOVE AVERAGE
Advantages: SMOOTH RIDE, HANDLES WELL , PRESTIGE BADGE
Disadvantages: NIGGLES CAN BE EXPENSIVE ,BUY THE FACELIFT MODEL
...however I would have another Mercedes but would go for the late 2004 facelift model as by then the overall interior look had got better and the qaulity in build had returned. If you are looking for a family vehicle with a Prestige badge the you will not go far wrong with a C-class BUT make sure you stay on top of the services and overall upkeep of the car . This can be expensive to do but well worth doing in the long run....

The C-Class Experience
Advantages: All the comfort of a Mercedes with the performance and control of top of the range exec
Disadvantages: Every features costs you money..if you have to pay BIK tax then you will be hurt by the CO2 levels
...320 equivalent the handling is superior. When you take a corner at a higher speed than you should have done the BMW pulls around the corner, the Audi struggles to hold the road, and the C-Class just clings to the bends as if it expects the driver of the vehicle to have Formula 1 experience.
I have noticed in previous reviews that the cost of parts has been highlighted but I really wouldn't state that this was excessive in comparison to the Audi and BMW rivals. Just on par for a prestige vehicle.
The only fault I would note on the C-Class is the same as every other Mercedes-Benz. If you want an extra then you have to pay for it! Comand navigation is nearly £2,000, whilst even cupholders equate to an additional cost of nearly £150.
Despite the cost implications in my experience there really is no other choice when looking...

Oh lord ....wont you buy me a Mercedes Benz...
Advantages: luxurious interiror, 3 point badge, comfort
Disadvantages: expensive, sterotype image of middle aged drivers.
...Unfortunately after dreaming and dreaming of this car, the lord couldn't help my husband and he had to buy a Mercedes himself.
He is a big fan of German and Japanese cars, and since being able to drive, he has had one car after another. Beginning with the old just- roadworthy Nissan sunny, to the funky Suzuki x-9. (Has anyone ever actually seen this car on the roads? I?m not surprised! it is a very bizarre looking beach buggy. see picture below.)
He has always wanted the famous 3 pointed badge and eventually, a good deal popped up!
He searched for his car from Great Trade Center, based in White city, London. They have a great online search facility. WWW.GTCCAR.CO.UK. We know many people who have bought their cars from here. I will not go into great detail as this op is mainly on the car.
He saw a 1999 model C class (so back...

Mercedes A160 - All things, for all men
Advantages: Interior Space, Visibility, Excellent engine & transmission
Disadvantages: Looks a bit like Camilla Parker-Bowles, head on.
...Daihatsu Grand Move. In fact, I remember when I first saw the A-Class. I don't think there had been any car like this before, at least not with a premium badge on the front. Mercedes Benz must be congratulated for having the male genitalia to design, and more importantly, develop a car for a niche that had not yet been carved from a market of euro-boxes and small hatchbacks. People know this is a Mercedes Benz, and they certainly know the price premium that the badge requests. What people don't know, however, is that a used A-Class can be picked up for little more than Renault Scenic money.
Interior
You don't so much get in an A-Class, as step up into the very inviting interior. Those doors might look like they reach the floor of the car, but there's a good eight inches of extra height between the floor of the car and the floor...

Expensive Car but Cheap Feeling
Advantages: Good interior
Disadvantages: Gas guzzler!
...flash red case under the bonnet, and the car speeds along a treat – it really is a joy to ride and it is very simple to go along with. But I’m more in to the kit it carries…
Commonality…
I noticed that this category had not yet been written in, and indeed the Mercedes C200K is not a very common car upon our great British tarmac roadways [that said in a very pompous voice]. You see, we are rather xenophobic here in the land of Eng.
There is a rather long waiting list to get hold of these cars, and I can tell you that at my company, in my ‘class,’ it is the most common request, with most people having to wait up to six months at the company before their gleaming new car is delivered to them.
Our roads do not see many of these cars – there are plenty of the bog-standard C180s and quite a few...
