Mercedes S Class - The worlds best luxury car - FACT!

Advantages: Fully loaded luxury motor leaving passengers and drivers wanting for nothing.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive if it goes wrong if you can't find the best repairshop. Initial outlay cost.

...Most readers will probably look at this review and overlook it; the common misconception is that the flagship Mercedes-Benz S Class is a luxury that many cannot afford. WRONG ? You can pick them up for as little as £5000, considering they retail for over £60k at new, this is fantastic. But why should you choose the S over any other car? It is a Mercedes and the best of the lot!!! The S class has been around for many years and is currently on the W221 range, which came out in 2006. The review I will be writing is about the W220, in my eyes the nicer of the two. What you will come to appreciate is that the S class is the benchmark of the motoring world. Mercedes S320, series 300SEL W140 1993

Advantages: Very high build quality, silent running, prestige, badge, lush, solid, fast, sumptuous.
Disadvantages: Difficult to park, dealer will empty your bank balence, large car - small....... !

...Mercedes 300SEL , S320 Limo 1993. How I acquired the vehicle? In my course of work (Mobile vehicle mechanic) I meet a lot of people in the trade. Because of this, I get the nod when any quality vehicles turn up in the scrapper (for what ever reason they were scrapped).... many times this is down to un-economic repair costs. Which are for this beast, astronomical? ...well if you are prey to main dealer prices and practices, cars like this will never be owned by the 'less well offs' and I include myself in that statement. It's better to be lucky than rich sometimes. For me, it's a case of; sod the usual car buying outlets and get your self down the scrapper. Lucky for me then! On first inspection of this car in the breakers yard, I was shocked by its size; it was huge, damaged, covered in dust + thick mud caked the wheel...

Mercedes S500

Advantages: A car to judge all others...
Disadvantages: 25mpg (though the benifits do out way this)

...I purchased this magnificent car about 4 months ago. You hear the likes of Jeremy Clarkson say... "if you want to know whats going to be fitted in cars in the next 10 years, well look in an S class." I actually have the S500 Limo Petrol model, that 5.0 litre V8 engine is more than enough to get this sizable car accellarating in an instant. This car brings new meaning the the words "spacious" and "luxurious". All seats are electricly movable (even the back seats) which boast heating and air conditioning inside which is very very nice on those hot days. Enless other gadgets such as electric blinds, fridge, TV/DVD, car phone, voice recognition, distronic and triptronics make this car the ultimate vehicle which all others are judged by. Concidering buying one ? Take me word for it, it will be the best purchase you have...

Mercedes A160 - All things, for all men

Advantages: Interior Space, Visibility, Excellent engine & transmission
Disadvantages: Looks a bit like Camilla Parker-Bowles, head on.

...is as to be expected from a Mercedes Benz, completely smooth and effortless. This is no hot hatchback but it will sail up to 100mph without any fuss. The automatic gearbox is a very simple affair, offering four speeds with tiptronic control if you're feeling brave. Refinement is fantastic, with wind noise and good sound insulation. The only complaints are down to that ride, after a few hours of motorway driving you can begin to feel a little sea-sick. Carry plenty of wet wipes for the very young and very old. Quality As I mentioned above, it's going to win no awards for quality considering it's a Mercedes Benz of the 1990's. Hardly respected for their standards of quality during the latter part of the 20th century, Mercedes Benz have let a few things slip. Oh lord ....wont you buy me a Mercedes Benz...

Advantages: luxurious interiror, 3 point badge, comfort
Disadvantages: expensive, sterotype image of middle aged drivers.

...luxurious touches inside ? the material on the seats is nice, the wood-like trim on the dash, the upholstered doors??nice. The 2 litre engine can only really be described as adequate for a car of this size. I was told to avoid the 1.8 litre models due to the sheer weight and I'm glad I did. Don't get me wrong, it?s not underpowered but its not a sports car either. I think you have to realize that people who buy Mercedes cars tend not to look as much at the performance as they do for the quality of the fixtures and fittings and ultimate ambience of the machinery??god I?m starting to sound like my husband now ! Be in no doubt, sitting in this car is like sitting in no other. There is cruise control, but unfortunately the UK is not the best country to test it as most of the time even the largest of motorways seem to be at a standstill. However...

Mercedes CLK 230 Kompressor Coupé

Advantages: A super stylish motor car

...Once again, a review of a discontinued model (!), but here are my thoughts on my 1999 Mercedes CLK 230 (W208) Kompressor Coupe, in Elegance trim. Bought in 2001, with one previous owner (originally registered in 1999 so its an "S" reg) and 25,000 miles, my CLK has now done 72,000 miles and is soon to be sold as the baby seat doesn't fit in the back ! Mine is the 230K (4 cylinder, 2,295cc), and turns out 197 bhp with a 0-62mph time of 9.5 seconds (the manual is a claimed 9.1 seconds, as opposed to my 5 speed automatic) on its way to a top speed of 136mph - although I clearly couldn't claim to have ever gone that fast, officer.... Also available is a 3.2 V6, a 4.3 V8, and the ultimate, the CLK55 AMG high-performance model. The "Elegance" trim means walnut wood inlays in the doors and centre console, plus a chrome strip around...

MERCEDES C220 CDI HAS FLARE AND COMES ABOVE AVERAGE

Advantages: SMOOTH RIDE, HANDLES WELL , PRESTIGE BADGE
Disadvantages: NIGGLES CAN BE EXPENSIVE ,BUY THE FACELIFT MODEL

...about it although every other Taxi is fast becoming a Mercedes diesel.!! The car never surprised me on speed off the mark but from 70 onward it did seem too fly with ease.Once I had started the engine from cold and woke the street up with the "clack-clack" it did please me ,as when warmed up and at normal Motorway speeds it went along qiutely without having to have the radio / cd up too loud. The finish of these vehicles is very good with soft plastics and Leather being used and the wind noise is very negligable at any speed. I did find the seats a little unsupportive and I wish I had gone for heated seats on the more cold winter mornings as the heater took an age to get up too a warm blow. The economy with the Diesel engine and Automatic gears seemed ok on long journeys but I saw a difference of MPG when you go over 65mph in comparison...

Beautiful Mercedes

...the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 1.8 tdi cant offer! The internal styling of the C-class is unfortunately not as exceptional as its fuel economy. The boring fake wood and neverending dark leather and plastic does not harmonise with the beautifully curved exterior body, and many friends have commented on how dissapointinly unluxurious the interior is. I do believe this is mercedes' downfall when comparing it with Audi and BMW! The C220 cdi will set you back about £20000 on the road if you bought a new one today. However a second hand 2000 model would cost about £13000 with about 30000miles. This shows the excellent depreciation value that mercedes' have, and when your spending £20000 on a car its all important. Another aspect when considering price is the spare parts cost. Unfortunately spare mercedes parts are not cheap and the expertise...

Mercedes SLK 230

Advantages: Very stylish, nice to own and drive.
Disadvantages: Very little luggage space with the roof down.

...We purchased our first SLK in March 1998. The first sports car we had owned. It was sitting there in the local Mercedes dealer's showroom and following a test drive we decided to buy it. At the time, this Mercedes dealership afforded a first class service and was a pleasure to deal with, but more about that in another opinion. What a brilliant piece of engineering this car was with it's folding roof, watching the whole thing disappear into the boot at the touch of a button. The bodywork was finished in silver with a black leather interior, the best combination, in my opinion. It had the standard 7 spoke polished alloys fitted and again, these 16" wheels suited the car really well. Later styles of 16" wheels fitted to the facelift SLK 230 are not so appealing in my view. Out on the road the super-charged 4 cylinder engine...

Mercedes 320 SLK

Advantages: Lots of admiring glances
Disadvantages: People don't let you out of junctions !

...I bought a 320 SLK after many trips to the local Mercedes garage and after test driving a few CLKs and the new Coupe. The SLK was the only one I got out of with a smile on my face, and it was a big one! So rather than buy one big CLK to load up with miles I bought a 1.2 Corsa for running around and an SLK for nice days. Performance is enough to get you into trouble in the wet but the traction control always kicks in before you realise you've even had a problem. The flashing light on the dash tells you you almost did! The sound from the engine is fantastic - especially with the roof down - it's like being in a computer game. Handling isn't quite what I'd expected. I'd had a couple of BMW coupes before and the SLK feels a bit bouncy compared to them - comfy rather than taught.
