Mercedes SLK 230

Advantages: Very stylish, nice to own and drive.
Disadvantages: Very little luggage space with the roof down.

...We purchased our first SLK in March 1998. The first sports car we had owned. It was sitting there in the local Mercedes dealer's showroom and following a test drive we decided to buy it. At the time, this Mercedes dealership afforded a first class service and was a pleasure to deal with, but more about that in another opinion. What a brilliant piece of engineering this car was with it's folding roof, watching the whole thing disappear into the boot at the touch of a button. The bodywork was finished in silver with a black leather interior, the best combination, in my opinion. It had the standard 7 spoke polished alloys fitted and again, these 16" wheels suited the car really well. Later styles of 16" wheels fitted to the facelift SLK 230 are not so appealing in my view. Mercedes 320 SLK

Advantages: Lots of admiring glances
Disadvantages: People don't let you out of junctions !

...I bought a 320 SLK after many trips to the local Mercedes garage and after test driving a few CLKs and the new Coupe. The SLK was the only one I got out of with a smile on my face, and it was a big one! So rather than buy one big CLK to load up with miles I bought a 1.2 Corsa for running around and an SLK for nice days. Performance is enough to get you into trouble in the wet but the traction control always kicks in before you realise you've even had a problem. The flashing light on the dash tells you you almost did! The sound from the engine is fantastic - especially with the roof down - it's like being in a computer game. Handling isn't quite what I'd expected. I'd had a couple of BMW coupes before and the SLK feels a bit bouncy compared to them - comfy rather than taught. Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor.

Advantages: It's a hard top, it's a convertable.
Disadvantages: Running costs.

...This is very much initial thoughts as I have only owned my Merc for 3 weeks. I did own a new shape Nissan Micra but had yearnings for something a little different. First thoughts were for a Jaguar X-Type but the more I looked at them the less they impressed. Thoughts then turned to a convertable. After research on the internet I visited a local dealer to view a Toyota MR2 but soon realised this could only be a second car due to it's none existant boot!! Mercedes S Class - The worlds best luxury car - FACT!

Advantages: Fully loaded luxury motor leaving passengers and drivers wanting for nothing.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive if it goes wrong if you can't find the best repairshop. Initial outlay cost.

.... In the town it can be quite thirsty but when you open her up on the motorway she is extremely frugal. Overall the S is to me the undisputed king of the road. It ticks all the boxes of luxury, technology and roadworthiness and I genuinely smile everyday that I get to take her out on the road. If you are looking for a decent saloon car then take a look at the S class. For the prices around today I am confident you can find one that looks after you for many years to come. I know mine will! Mercedes S Class S280 was purchased in 2008 from a local dealer. I swapped my Mercedes SLK 230 for the vehicle but the valuation at that time was around £8000. I am aware that there are other vehicles available at cheaper prices today. Autotrader has plenty of them but make sure you test every piece of equipment on the car before you part with the money...

A good car......for a middle aged woman!

Advantages: Good Badge
Disadvantages: Not exciting enough

...Too small and uncomfortable.. That more or less sums up what I think of the Mercedes SLK 350. I have always enjoyed Mercedes cars and my SLK experiences started with a 2002 SLK 320 Manual. It was bright red and my, so called, friends refered to it as a "hairdressers" car! Looks aside, it was not a bad car, the gearbox was a bit notchy and the suspension was not very sporty but on the whole I quite liked it. So when I first took delivery of my SLK 350 auto with the F1 style front end and the more powerful engine I was excited, I like to drive fairly quickly and I enjoy driving for drivings sake. The new car looked better than the old model and the interior felt more up todate. My first drive of the 350 was quite interesting. As I pulled away, with far too much throttle, the rear wheels snatched at the tarmac for grip...

SLK- Must be a women

...After buying the Mercedes SLK 32 AMG a couple of months ago, because I needed a something to get me from the city to home in Belgravia. I can say I was so pleased with the car me and my wife flew to Germany to pick up my baby. Having had BMW convertibles for most of my working life it was a change. It wasn't cheap at 45k but worth every penny, the test is after changing my car every couple of years I don't think I could trade in my baby for anything better!! (except a newer model!) It's got everything a sports car could ever need one minute it's a roadster and at the touch of a button it's a couple. It's got AMG body styling, twin exhaust, 17-inch alloys and then engine is a dream 0-60 in about 5 seconds! update: better than sex (at times)

Advantages: fast, reliable, compact luxury convertible
Disadvantages: expensive, plastic material of dashboard, cheap antenna

...The title - I must admit - is not my brainchild, it is the header of some Austrian motor magazine describing the brandnew Mercedes convertible - the SLK 350 (R171). Since I retired recently I was looking for a "playmobile" for my golden years as there exists already a big Bavarian V8 limousine. My research on convertibles started more than a year ago and comprised vehicles such as the Porsche Boxster, the Audi TT and the Z4 from BMW. In autumn of 2003 after extensive testdrives I thought I was ready to order - the Z4 would be the one that met my requirements because it was as good as the Porsche but the price was ? 10k lower. Review of Mercedes SLK 350

Oh lord ....wont you buy me a Mercedes Benz...

Advantages: luxurious interiror, 3 point badge, comfort
Disadvantages: expensive, sterotype image of middle aged drivers.

...for a car this size. It is in insurance group 11. Stereotypically Mercedes saloons are often associated middle-aged men. (funny...cos we are in our 20's ! ) However, this is slowly changing as Mercedes try to appeal to the more cosmopolitan crowd with models such as the new C class Coupe and the SLK. They have also successfully broken into the small family car market with the A class. However the C class will always be the introduction to the Mercedes family ? ?starter Merc? - as it is the affordable family car and can be compared to other cars such as the Audi A4, Saab 93 and Volvo S40, not forgetting the BMW 3 series. You can now get this car at very good value now that the new model has been released. My car has now covered just over 55,000 miles and I wouldn't change it for the world. Thank you Lord!...

Mercedes A160 - All things, for all men

Advantages: Interior Space, Visibility, Excellent engine & transmission

Mercedes CLK 230 Kompressor Coupé

Advantages: A super stylish motor car

...Once again, a review of a discontinued model (!), but here are my thoughts on my 1999 Mercedes CLK 230 (W208) Kompressor Coupe, in Elegance trim. Bought in 2001, with one previous owner (originally registered in 1999 so its an "S" reg) and 25,000 miles, my CLK has now done 72,000 miles and is soon to be sold as the baby seat doesn't fit in the back ! Mine is the 230K (4 cylinder, 2,295cc), and turns out 197 bhp with a 0-62mph time of 9.5 seconds (the manual is a claimed 9.1 seconds, as opposed to my 5 speed automatic) on its way to a top speed of 136mph - although I clearly couldn't claim to have ever gone that fast, officer.... Also available is a 3.2 V6, a 4.3 V8, and the ultimate, the CLK55 AMG high-performance model. The "Elegance" trim means walnut wood inlays in the doors and centre console, plus a chrome strip around...
