MERCEDES C220 CDI HAS FLARE AND COMES ABOVE AVERAGE

...When I purchased the Merc back in late summer I did a 200 mile round trip as the spec I was looking for at the right price could not be found in my town.I stumbled upon an Avantgarde 2001 y plate model with full stamped history at 80,000 miles on the clock and with the blue paintwork it was exactly what I was looking for at £4,800. The C-Class Experience

Advantages: All the comfort of a Mercedes with the performance and control of top of the range exec
Disadvantages: Every features costs you money..if you have to pay BIK tax then you will be hurt by the CO2 levels

Beautiful Mercedes

...the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 1.8 tdi cant offer! The internal styling of the C-class is unfortunately not as exceptional as its fuel economy. The boring fake wood and neverending dark leather and plastic does not harmonise with the beautifully curved exterior body, and many friends have commented on how dissapointinly unluxurious the interior is. I do believe this is mercedes' downfall when comparing it with Audi and BMW! The C220 cdi will set you back about £20000 on the road if you bought a new one today. However a second hand 2000 model would cost about £13000 with about 30000miles. This shows the excellent depreciation value that mercedes' have, and when your spending £20000 on a car its all important. Another aspect when considering price is the spare parts cost. ...Stumbled across a single review of this vehicle which struck me as too eulogistic to be of much use. I live in Europe where attitudes to Mercedes products are less reverential and have had a manual transmission E220 CDi since Oct.2003 (which I'd like to sell). This model with 150 bhp/340nm. has effectively been superceded since July 2006 by a revised model with 170bhp and approx 400nm. and which among some 2000 changes has done away with the brake by wire system and probably other curiosities as well. Any German-speaking reader should look at ownership surveys, such as in Auto Motor und Sport 10 November 2004 edition. ...journey. The worst 39mpg on a short 'sprint' After 8000 miles I have not needed to top up the oil. There is a gauge which means you can check the level is OK without opening the bonnet. The variable service indicator shows another 7500 miles before a service is due, so I can't comment on the cost. I have been quoted £300 for next year's insurance - fully comp, protected no claims, MK postcode. The Avantgarde specification means you get auto wipers and lights. These work well most of the time, although I have programmed the lights to be permanently on via the operating system. I will change this at the end of March. Visibility is good, although the rear wiper is not very effective. As I have a 3 door, the C pillar is quite thick. The ventilation system is very good. I have the standard semi-automatic system. ML270CDi - What a family car

Advantages: Driving Position, Reliability, Comfort, Service
Disadvantages: no, not really......

...I am on my 3rd ML270CDi, the latest being an '03 with every toy imaginable......they are a simply excellent drive. you have to bear in mind this is a "two ton truck" with a diesel engine, so rapid it is not - however - for a "two ton truck" it is surprisingly nippy and enjoyable to drive. If you make good use of the revs and hold gears, it will perform well. For fast standing starts I offer one tip, hold the brake hard, rev it hard to get the turbo at full pressure and the truck takes off with startling power.....Its only fault is that sometimes you want a quick start from lights or at a crossroads etc and the turbo takes a second or two to wind up!! MPG is very reasonable at approx 34mpg on a run at 70mph, cruise at nearer 85-90 and it goes down fast (not the most areodynamic of vehicles in fairness) to approx 28-30mpg. Turn off...

Fancy a spin?

Advantages: It's a Mercedes

...I have owned (or rather leased) my Mercedes C220 cdi for the past 18 month - I have travelled 36,000 miles in it and so feel that I know it inside out. I have previously had 2 Mercedes C Class saloons that I really did enjoy, I decided to plump for the Sports Coupe for a more modern look. I must say the car hasn't really lived up to my expectations - I am glad that I only took a 2 year lease out - it may well soon be time to try out BMW! (If I can get a good deal!) I will split the review down into categories (not in depth, I am no F1 driver nor am I a mechanic!) Exterior It does look good - well when it's clean anyway - sleek flowing lines from the front to rear, fog lamps, aggresive looking front grill and good alloy wheels give it a sporty appearance. I do think it would benefit from low profile tyres to finish...

Oh lord ....wont you buy me a Mercedes Benz...

Mercy me!

Advantages: Style, comfort, reliability, low fuel consumption, high residuals.
Disadvantages: MB Stealerships, rusty doors.

...Our 2nd MB, we bought this one last year after an extensive search for the right one. C220cdi stationwagons are difficult to find and a bit pricey but worth the effort. Our 1999 Classic is in dark blue, which glows denim blue in the sun and is a very forgiving colour. We have an optional beige interior with beige hide upholstery and 5 speed auto gearbox, which is a perfect match for the torquey diesel engine. Overall, we are delighted with the car, which is the most comfortable we have ever owned ( this is my 22nd car!) and the great performance and economy (around 40mpg) are an unexpected bonus. Other features which we appreciate include the air-con and cruise control. Downsides? Unfortunately yes. 1) I have not come across a decent MB dealer yet and have ended up in dispute with 2.
