The C-Class Experience
Advantages: All the comfort of a Mercedes with the performance and control of top of the range exec
Disadvantages: Every features costs you money..if you have to pay BIK tax then you will be hurt by the CO2 levels
...320 equivalent the handling is superior. When you take a corner at a higher speed than you should have done the BMW pulls around the corner, the Audi struggles to hold the road, and the C-Class just clings to the bends as if it expects the driver of the vehicle to have Formula 1 experience.
I have noticed in previous reviews that the cost of parts has been highlighted but I really wouldn't state that this was excessive in comparison to the Audi and BMW rivals. Just on par for a prestige vehicle.
The only fault I would note on the C-Class is the same as every other Mercedes-Benz. If you want an extra then you have to pay for it! Comand navigation is nearly £2,000, whilst even cupholders equate to an additional cost of nearly £150.
Despite the cost implications in my experience there really is no other choice when looking...

MERCEDES C220 CDI HAS FLARE AND COMES ABOVE AVERAGE
Advantages: SMOOTH RIDE, HANDLES WELL , PRESTIGE BADGE
Disadvantages: NIGGLES CAN BE EXPENSIVE ,BUY THE FACELIFT MODEL
...however I would have another Mercedes but would go for the late 2004 facelift model as by then the overall interior look had got better and the qaulity in build had returned. If you are looking for a family vehicle with a Prestige badge the you will not go far wrong with a C-class BUT make sure you stay on top of the services and overall upkeep of the car . This can be expensive to do but well worth doing in the long run....

Mercedes CLK 230 Kompressor Coupé
Advantages: A super stylish motor car
Disadvantages: Expensive
...the wondows, while the alternative, "Avantgarde" has black maple wood, and different (7-spoke) wheels.
The 230K engine can get a bit coarse at when pushed hard, but is super quiet when cruising, however, and the CLK does a fine job of minimising wind and road noise (205/55 R16 wheels).
The "K" stands for Kompressor, which is German for supercharger, where air is compressed before entering the cylinders by a system mechanically linked to the engine, so you get all the power, with none of teh "lag" associated with a turbo-charger.
The CLK is most at home on motorways, or nice A roads, where it feels as solid and and comfortable as a you would expect from a Mercedes.
The CLK, from the front, and actually the back, come to think of it, looks very much like a sleeker version of the big (old) E-class saloon, and I believe, looks a lot niver...

Beautiful Mercedes
Advantages: Fuel Economy
Disadvantages: Interior
...the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 1.8 tdi cant offer!
The internal styling of the C-class is unfortunately not as exceptional as its fuel economy. The boring fake wood and neverending dark leather and plastic does not harmonise with the beautifully curved exterior body, and many friends have commented on how dissapointinly unluxurious the interior is. I do believe this is mercedes' downfall when comparing it with Audi and BMW!
The C220 cdi will set you back about £20000 on the road if you bought a new one today. However a second hand 2000 model would cost about £13000 with about 30000miles. This shows the excellent depreciation value that mercedes' have, and when your spending £20000 on a car its all important. Another aspect when considering price is the spare parts cost. Unfortunately spare mercedes parts are not cheap and the expertise...

Company car
Advantages: Comfort, dashboard, engine, build quality
Disadvantages: Badly thought out reverse gear on manual gearboxes
...I recently changed positions within my own company and ended up with either a company car or a car allowance. Given my previous car had been written off by a driver who crossed a give way sign in broad daylight, I took the company car option.
Given a choice of a German make, a German make, a German make or a German make, I went for a German make. Specifically a Mercedes. I could have gotten a cheaper car (still have to pay benefit in kind costs) but had always wanted to drive around a brand new Mercedes, at least once. So that's what I did.
Exterior/Image:
One of the reasons I went for a Merc, rather than a BMW is that the image of a BMW driver is inconsiderate, tail-gaiting and impatient and those that drive Beemers are all tarred with the same brush. In other words, I actually wanted to be let out at a junction.
The Sports...

Expensive Car but Cheap Feeling
Advantages: Good interior
Disadvantages: Gas guzzler!
...of different automobiles that were available to us. They included Volvos, Fords and of course the Mercedes. We were offered a more powerful C180, or the better C200K.
What does that K mean?…
Now you’re all thinking that K means something posh. I do know that it is some engine bit, but it’s purpose is unknown to me. It is probably some wonderful device which will allow you to alter the note produced by the horn to create festive jingles with it…
That K stands for Kompressor. Now I am no car technical guy, so I can’t tell you all sorts of amazing facts about horsepower. But I can tell you about how comfy the seat is – that is more my league. To me, Kompressor means it’s got a nice big juicy engine…
However, when driving, you can hear the Kompressor spreading its magic as it roars away in its...

Our A Class Mercedes .....
Advantages: Very Economical, Small, Nippy, Compact, Easy To Park !!
Disadvantages: Several Blind Spots Throughout The Car !!
...wheelbase version - we have friends who have the longer wheelbase version and have been told that there is as much foot room as there is in a C class, which is remarkable when it is considered the size of the car. Ours is particularly nippy, so it has a reasonable performance along with excellent fuel consumption.
I am exactly 6 foot in height and it is a little cramped (head room). the rear seats have the ability to fold down or they are completley removeable but be warned they are HEAVY .... and are a bit fiddly when putting them back in... but the ability to remove them opens the car up to be able to carry quite a reasonable load. The A class is fitted as standard with driver and passenger airbags and have the same on the doors - (mini air bags) which is a side impact protection system. If given the oppurtunity it would be advisable to buy...

Feel Good Factor
Advantages: Quick speed to get you out of a pickle
Disadvantages: Expensive to buy
...I have previously owned 3 Mercedes cars and really do like the brand not only because of the prestige of owning one of these cars but also because they really are good value and roadworthy. I have only ever had to replace tyres in the past but had been looking around the garages at the 2 door coupe style, especially in the silver exterior with light grey leather interior. Drool, drool and more drool.
A couple of weeks ago we happened to be looking at one of our local used car garages when we saw a dark blue pearlised Mercedes 230 Kompressor sports. You know that moment, when you see something even though it is totally opposite to what you were looking for, and you fall in love. Well, that happened to me. I fell in love with this car which was dark blue with black leather interior. I had always INSISTED that my next car would not...

Unreliability
Advantages: Some good accessories, comfortable ride
Disadvantages: Poor reliability, expensive servicing, disgraceful aftercare
...I own a 2002 (52 plate) Mercedes, C200, Avantgarde, Kompressor and feel I must let you know (the public) about the vehicle I bought. I am not a "boy racer" but a sixty year old male who has never experienced such unreliability in 40 years of driving with the more common cars (Fords, Vauxhalls etc.).
This car was a 6 month old demonstrator with 7,500 miles on the clock and I paid £ 21,500 for it in 2003. It required a replacement CD player and wing mirror (whilst in warranty). Whilst it was in warranty I also complained about the noise coming from the engine but was told there was nothing wrong with it. Since 55,000 miles it has needed:
1) A new mass air flow sensor for the engine (a static component)
2) A new cylinder head gasket (a static component)
3) Another new wing mirror (due to defective wiring for the indicator)
4...

Mercedes c180 '94 petrol manual, 150k
Advantages: Realiable, reasonable looks, good handling
Disadvantages: no Air con
...Mercedes c180 '94 petrol manual, 150k on the clock (owned for 4 months)
Mercs are class apart! Very good for its age. A very reliable engine! I did around 1000 miles in one trip in less than 15 hours and the engine showed no sign of fatigue. The maximum it can go is 110 miles/hour.
Not very fast for a dash between signals. Its rear wheel drive, if you accelerate a bit too much on a roundabout or turn on a rainy day, you'd seem like Jeremy on Top Gear. No Air conditioner, which means you sweat like a pig in summer!
around 24 miles to a gallon in city and around 30 on motorway.
I can't think of any problem I had with the car apart from a routine Tracking (wheel alignment and balancing). I never had to spend a pence on repair.
Overall a very good and reliable car to own. Not as expensive or difficult to maintain as...
