...Hi all, I had this car over in the states. It was a replacement for a CLK 320. I was surprised at the sportiness of the clk, but this one shocked me. It is a truck, but doesn't feel like one. I made several long trips where I went all the way up to the limiter. I always felt safe. The cornering defies logic, and the brakes are strong enough to bring this big rig down safely. Excellent air conditioning, super stereo. The petrol consumption is appalling, but it is a big heavy sorty truck, so what can I expect. Also it really is the best looking of all the SUV's. Money well spent, and the depreciation isn't too bad either.... Read review

...Once again, a review of a discontinued model (!), but here are my thoughts on my 1999 Mercedes CLK 230 (W208) Kompressor Coupe, in Elegance trim. Bought in 2001, with one previous owner (originally registered in 1999 so its an "S" reg) and 25,000 miles, my CLK has now done 72,000 miles and is soon to be sold as the baby seat doesn't fit in the back ! Mine is the 230K (4 cylinder, 2,295cc), and turns out 197 bhp with a 0-62mph time of 9.5 seconds (the manual is a claimed 9.1 seconds, as opposed to my 5 speed automatic) on its way to a top speed of 136mph - although I clearly couldn't claim to have ever gone that fast, officer.... Also available is a 3.2 V6, a 4.3 V8, and the ultimate, the CLK55 AMG high-performance model. The "Elegance" trim means walnut wood inlays in the doors and centre console, plus a chrome strip around... Read review

...The answer is to buy a mercedes SLK! The new mercedes SLK is absolutely stunning to look at from the outside and this is reflected by the interior also. For the first time i believe that this new model from Merc appeals not only to the women, but also men are looking at the SLK in a different light. The exterior itself has smoother lines than its predeccesor, and this is shown in all models across the range, for example the CLK and SL. The boot especially in the old model was extremely boxy at the back to house the roof. But the new style roof takes up less space in the boot and therefore is more compact, which results in more space for shopping when the roof is down. The interior reflects the exterior, with a smooth more rounded dash board that feels solid and well put together. The cabin space feels roomier and sportier, especially... Read review

...Designed by Swatch and built by Mercedes (now Daimler-Chrysler), these little cars are a really good idea. Currently, you can only buy them in lefthand drive so in the UK they are slightly difficult to insure, but this will be changing shortly. The range is more varied than you would expect. You can buy a basic lead-in model, or an executive model with a higher trim. You could have a cabriolet for about £6000 and you can choose automatic or manual transmission. These cars are sold from anything between £5,000 and £7,000 depending on the type you want, but all versions share basic similarities. They are cheap to run on fuel. They will not do more than 80 mph. They are a great town car but I would not feel safe on the motorway in one. They are so little (2 seater with no boot) that you can put them in a standard parking space... Read review

...I bought a 320 SLK after many trips to the local Mercedes garage and after test driving a few CLKs and the new Coupe. The SLK was the only one I got out of with a smile on my face, and it was a big one! So rather than buy one big CLK to load up with miles I bought a 1.2 Corsa for running around and an SLK for nice days. Performance is enough to get you into trouble in the wet but the traction control always kicks in before you realise you've even had a problem. The flashing light on the dash tells you you almost did! The sound from the engine is fantastic - especially with the roof down - it's like being in a computer game. Handling isn't quite what I'd expected. I'd had a couple of BMW coupes before and the SLK feels a bit bouncy compared to them - comfy rather than taught.
