My Car - Mercedes E280 T Estate
Advantages: Smooth Drive, Service Warranty excellent, Comfortable and the engineering is top notch
Disadvantages: Interior a bit plain
...a Mercedes second hand and have run it into the ground over the past three years, without any problems at all. I then managed to get hold of the Mercedes E280 T Estate and it is a fantastic car. The German manufacturing process is unrivalled. The fuel consumption is roughly 40 MPG. The ride is smooth and the car is spacious enough to get a double bed in, which I have done. It is also great for dogs in the back which we have 2, and they are contented to just sit and look out of the windows whilst travelling with space to move around. The vision is great all around and the car is powerful to get you away from the lights without being left behind in a cloud of smoke. It is even good off road, however this would not be reccommended as it does not cope well with thick mud.
It is a comfortable ride and you feel refreshed when you arrive at your...

THE FINEST SALOON I HAVE EVER DRIVEN, FORGET BMW!
Advantages: Performace, Looks, Economy, Equipment, Space
Disadvantages: Errr...none!
...I have always been a masses Mercedes fan, and for my birthday my family rented a Mercedes C-Class for me. Avis very kindly upgraded me to an E-Class. I was expecting a 2.1 turbo diesel, or maybe a 200 Kompressor. I was absolutely thrilled when I found I had the 3.0i V6 engine.
The image, well what can I say. I think this car looks fantastic. It looks subtle, it looks sporty, it looks...well, I just think it's got it all! The previous shape E-Class looked very 'square' and bulky, but the new shape looks very sleak.
The inside is fantastic. There are loads of little storage spaces, even a small electronically opened hatch above the gear selector. The quality of the materials used on the dash, the controls, and the upholstery are just what you would expect from a luxury saloon car. The controls could seem a little daunting to...

A TOUCH OF CLASS
Advantages: Roomy, Classy, Prestigious.
Disadvantages: Expensive, Fuel consumption
...My father brought the E280 Avantgarde in 2001, the face lifted version. We chose metallic brilliant silver (just like everyone else!!) with grey leather. The options we opted for was the Sat Nav, Heated seats, Parkatronic, C.D changer and Climate Control.
From the outside, the face lifted version gave the car a sleeker look, it's more stylish, especially with the new colour style lights. It also looks little less conserative now, lovely as I love the car but don't want to look like a old man.
Soon as you step inside the car you know this car is solid as a rock, well put together and the interior oozes quality. The leather has that quality look, feel and smell to it. The seats are comfortable, with partial electronic adjustments. The dash is clear and logically laid out, though this design has been going on for many years now...

Top quality, understated luxury
Advantages: Space, Comfort, Safety
Disadvantages: Price, Fuel Consumption
...I bought my E-280 Elegance almost 2 years ago now (November 1998) so it does not have the face-lifted front or the additional features of the new one.
However, I can honestly say that it is one of the nicest cars I have ever driven, and that owning it has been a joy (perhaps with the exception of filling up the petrol tank, which costs close to £60!).
Firstly, I'd recommend ANYONE buying a new Mercedes to take up the offer to visit the factory and pick it up yourself. For the normal delivery charge, they will fly you out to Stuttgart, put you up in a hotel, show you around the factory, and then introduce you to your car before sending you on your way. Its a fabulous experience, and a great introduction to your car. However, for those anxious to try out their new car on Germany's autobahns a warning - we were told to 'run the car...

Sansa e280- cheaper alternative to the iPod?
Advantages: Size, 8GB memory, great menu system, EQ, Photo function, music sorting
Disadvantages: Video quality, album art function is lacking
...The Sansa e280 is a fantastic little MP3 player on first impressions. The player is stylish, and has a fantastic menu layout. However I must get the small amount of flaws out of the way first; the videos lack quality and are fuzzy, so if you want this especially for videos, maybe look at a Creative or an iPod. Also, album art is a bit tricky to add, which may be my computer's problem but I've seen other people online have a problem with it too.
Apart from that, this product is superb. With it's 8GB of memory, a large music library can be added to it and taken around stylishly. Also, it has a nice photo function, and the photos look very high quality. All in all, it's a fantastic MP3 player in my opinion, just some niggling things that don't make it as fully accomplished as an iPod. But if you are looking for a cheaper alternative, go...

Beautiful Mercedes
Advantages: Fuel Economy
Disadvantages: Interior
...the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 1.8 tdi cant offer!
The internal styling of the C-class is unfortunately not as exceptional as its fuel economy. The boring fake wood and neverending dark leather and plastic does not harmonise with the beautifully curved exterior body, and many friends have commented on how dissapointinly unluxurious the interior is. I do believe this is mercedes' downfall when comparing it with Audi and BMW!
The C220 cdi will set you back about £20000 on the road if you bought a new one today. However a second hand 2000 model would cost about £13000 with about 30000miles. This shows the excellent depreciation value that mercedes' have, and when your spending £20000 on a car its all important. Another aspect when considering price is the spare parts cost. Unfortunately spare mercedes parts are not cheap and the expertise...

MERCEDES C220 CDI HAS FLARE AND COMES ABOVE AVERAGE
Advantages: SMOOTH RIDE, HANDLES WELL , PRESTIGE BADGE
Disadvantages: NIGGLES CAN BE EXPENSIVE ,BUY THE FACELIFT MODEL
...about it although every other Taxi is fast becoming a Mercedes diesel.!!
The car never surprised me on speed off the mark but from 70 onward it did seem too fly with ease.Once I had started the engine from cold and woke the street up with the "clack-clack" it did please me ,as when warmed up and at normal Motorway speeds it went along qiutely without having to have the radio / cd up too loud. The finish of these vehicles is very good with soft plastics and Leather being used and the wind noise is very negligable at any speed. I did find the seats a little unsupportive and I wish I had gone for heated seats on the more cold winter mornings as the heater took an age to get up too a warm blow.
The economy with the Diesel engine and Automatic gears seemed ok on long journeys but I saw a difference of MPG when you go over 65mph in comparison...

Mercedes E 220 CDI
Advantages: comfortable, economical
Disadvantages: questionable electronics, technical design
...Stumbled across a single review of this vehicle which struck me as too eulogistic to be of much use.
I live in Europe where attitudes to Mercedes products are less reverential and have had a manual transmission E220 CDi since Oct.2003 (which I'd like to sell). This model with 150 bhp/340nm. has effectively been superceded since July 2006 by a revised model with 170bhp and approx 400nm. and which among some 2000 changes has done away with the brake by wire system and probably other curiosities as well.
Any German-speaking reader should look at ownership surveys, such as in Auto Motor und Sport 10 November 2004 edition.
It is certainly a roomy, comfortable car to drive with good ride quality, low noise levels and fuel consumption and enough middle-range performance to perform very well on motorways. The weight, clunky...

Mercedes A160 - All things, for all men
Advantages: Interior Space, Visibility, Excellent engine & transmission
Disadvantages: Looks a bit like Camilla Parker-Bowles, head on.
...Daihatsu Grand Move. In fact, I remember when I first saw the A-Class. I don't think there had been any car like this before, at least not with a premium badge on the front. Mercedes Benz must be congratulated for having the male genitalia to design, and more importantly, develop a car for a niche that had not yet been carved from a market of euro-boxes and small hatchbacks. People know this is a Mercedes Benz, and they certainly know the price premium that the badge requests. What people don't know, however, is that a used A-Class can be picked up for little more than Renault Scenic money.
Interior
You don't so much get in an A-Class, as step up into the very inviting interior. Those doors might look like they reach the floor of the car, but there's a good eight inches of extra height between the floor of the car and the floor...
