Mercedes SLK 230

Advantages: Very stylish, nice to own and drive.
Disadvantages: Very little luggage space with the roof down.

...We purchased our first SLK in March 1998. The first sports car we had owned. It was sitting there in the local Mercedes dealer's showroom and following a test drive we decided to buy it. At the time, this Mercedes dealership afforded a first class service and was a pleasure to deal with, but more about that in another opinion. What a brilliant piece of engineering this car was with it's folding roof, watching the whole thing disappear into the boot at the touch of a button. The bodywork was finished in silver with a black leather interior, the best combination, in my opinion. It had the standard 7 spoke polished alloys fitted and again, these 16" wheels suited the car really well. Later styles of 16" wheels fitted to the facelift SLK 230 are not so appealing in my view. Mercedes 320 SLK

Advantages: Lots of admiring glances
Disadvantages: People don't let you out of junctions !

...I bought a 320 SLK after many trips to the local Mercedes garage and after test driving a few CLKs and the new Coupe. The SLK was the only one I got out of with a smile on my face, and it was a big one! So rather than buy one big CLK to load up with miles I bought a 1.2 Corsa for running around and an SLK for nice days. Performance is enough to get you into trouble in the wet but the traction control always kicks in before you realise you've even had a problem. The flashing light on the dash tells you you almost did! The sound from the engine is fantastic - especially with the roof down - it's like being in a computer game. Handling isn't quite what I'd expected. I'd had a couple of BMW coupes before and the SLK feels a bit bouncy compared to them - comfy rather than taught. A good car......for a middle aged woman!

Advantages: Good Badge
Disadvantages: Not exciting enough

...Too small and uncomfortable.. That more or less sums up what I think of the Mercedes SLK 350. I have always enjoyed Mercedes cars and my SLK experiences started with a 2002 SLK 320 Manual. It was bright red and my, so called, friends refered to it as a "hairdressers" car! Looks aside, it was not a bad car, the gearbox was a bit notchy and the suspension was not very sporty but on the whole I quite liked it. So when I first took delivery of my SLK 350 auto with the F1 style front end and the more powerful engine I was excited, I like to drive fairly quickly and I enjoy driving for drivings sake. The new car looked better than the old model and the interior felt more up todate. My first drive of the 350 was quite interesting. As I pulled away, with far too much throttle, the rear wheels snatched at the tarmac for grip...

Review of Mercedes SLK 350

Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor.

Advantages: It's a hard top, it's a convertable.
Disadvantages: Running costs.

...This is very much initial thoughts as I have only owned my Merc for 3 weeks. I did own a new shape Nissan Micra but had yearnings for something a little different. First thoughts were for a Jaguar X-Type but the more I looked at them the less they impressed. Thoughts then turned to a convertable. After research on the internet I visited a local dealer to view a Toyota MR2 but soon realised this could only be a second car due to it's none existant boot!! ...After buying the Mercedes SLK 32 AMG a couple of months ago, because I needed a something to get me from the city to home in Belgravia. I can say I was so pleased with the car me and my wife flew to Germany to pick up my baby. Having had BMW convertibles for most of my working life it was a change. It wasn't cheap at 45k but worth every penny, the test is after changing my car every couple of years I don't think I could trade in my baby for anything better!! (except a newer model!) It's got everything a sports car could ever need one minute it's a roadster and at the touch of a button it's a couple. It's got AMG body styling, twin exhaust, 17-inch alloys and then engine is a dream 0-60 in about 5 seconds! Mercedes S Class - The worlds best luxury car - FACT!

Advantages: Fully loaded luxury motor leaving passengers and drivers wanting for nothing.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive if it goes wrong if you can't find the best repairshop. Initial outlay cost.

.... In the town it can be quite thirsty but when you open her up on the motorway she is extremely frugal. Overall the S is to me the undisputed king of the road. It ticks all the boxes of luxury, technology and roadworthiness and I genuinely smile everyday that I get to take her out on the road. If you are looking for a decent saloon car then take a look at the S class. For the prices around today I am confident you can find one that looks after you for many years to come. I know mine will! Mercedes S Class S280 was purchased in 2008 from a local dealer. I swapped my Mercedes SLK 230 for the vehicle but the valuation at that time was around £8000. I am aware that there are other vehicles available at cheaper prices today. Autotrader has plenty of them but make sure you test every piece of equipment on the car before you part with the money...

Review of Mercedes S 280

update: better than sex (at times)

Advantages: fast, reliable, compact luxury convertible
Disadvantages: expensive, plastic material of dashboard, cheap antenna

...the SLK is a perfomance car that has no match at present when compared to the likes of Porsche, Audi, Nissan and BMW. Its best features include the vario-roof, the 7G transmission and the V6 engine. Disadvantages are the relatively high price for such a small roadster, service and insurance costs and - when putting all the 272 horses to work - a fuel consumption above 13 litres and more. My overall consumption is around 11,3 litres but occasionally I manage less than 9 litres at cruising speeds aroung 50 mph... Eat my dirt !

...Recently I was very lucky to have the new Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 for the whole day as a demonstrator model. I saw the adverts for it on the TV and have been drooling after one ever since. My partner, who already has an E Class Mercedes happened to mention it to one of the account managers at the Mercedes garage - he asked about the possibility of me having one for the day to test drive. Although there is a huge demand for them at the moment - he managed to wangle me one for the day the following week, which just happened to be on my 30th birthday! What a treat! Although I liked the look of the old style SLK, the new one is really something quite special. At first glance, it just looks more sportier and definitely has a more muscular styling. ...This Mercedes-Benz has really surprised me. Mercedes are world-renowned for their brilliant build quality and brilliant cars. The S-class and the CL coupe are terrific cars and can the SLK continue this feat? The SLK two-seater sits slightly lower than before and certainly looks a bit meaner too. However, the car remains very small and a little toy like. Newer engines have been introduced including a wonderful 3.2-lite V6 214 BHP! The old four-cylinder 2.3-litre still remains yet the power has been increased to 194 BHP. There is also a brand new 2.0-litre which creates 161 BHP. Both new engines are very impressive, typical Mercedes. Now, there is a manual box available in the UK. The good news is that it is a six-speed gearbox.
