...the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 1.8 tdi cant offer! The internal styling of the C-class is unfortunately not as exceptional as its fuel economy. The boring fake wood and neverending dark leather and plastic does not harmonise with the beautifully curved exterior body, and many friends have commented on how dissapointinly unluxurious the interior is. I do believe this is mercedes' downfall when comparing it with Audi and BMW! The C220 cdi will set you back about £20000 on the road if you bought a new one today. However a second hand 2000 model would cost about £13000 with about 30000miles. This shows the excellent depreciation value that mercedes' have, and when your spending £20000 on a car its all important. Another aspect when considering price is the spare parts cost. Unfortunately spare mercedes parts are not cheap and the expertise...

Mercedes 300TD Reliability an urban myth

Advantages: Performance, Economy and good motorway car
Disadvantages: Severe corrosion problems, mechanically unreliable after 100,000 miles

...with silicone bathroom sealer to protect). Finally at 156k the engine has failed, headgasket blown, timing chain worn out etc. even though serviced every 15k and run on best quality oil. Now this is serious money and I'm going to fit a secondhand engine and get rid of it as soon as I can. Advice the Reliability of Mercedes-Benz is largely and urban myth and buying one with over 100k miles can be a costly mistake....

MERCEDES C220 CDI HAS FLARE AND COMES ABOVE AVERAGE

Advantages: SMOOTH RIDE, HANDLES WELL , PRESTIGE BADGE
Disadvantages: NIGGLES CAN BE EXPENSIVE ,BUY THE FACELIFT MODEL

...about it although every other Taxi is fast becoming a Mercedes diesel.!! The car never surprised me on speed off the mark but from 70 onward it did seem too fly with ease.Once I had started the engine from cold and woke the street up with the "clack-clack" it did please me ,as when warmed up and at normal Motorway speeds it went along qiutely without having to have the radio / cd up too loud. The finish of these vehicles is very good with soft plastics and Leather being used and the wind noise is very negligable at any speed. I did find the seats a little unsupportive and I wish I had gone for heated seats on the more cold winter mornings as the heater took an age to get up too a warm blow. The economy with the Diesel engine and Automatic gears seemed ok on long journeys but I saw a difference of MPG when you go over 65mph in comparison...

Mercedes 300E - A Good Car to Own

Advantages: Powerful, Solid & Safe, Low Mainenance and comfortable
Disadvantages: Higher fuel, insurance costs

...The Mercedes 300E is definately a car to buy if you are considering buying a second hand car. This 6 engine inline E-Class has been one of the most popular model in the Mercedes range. It combines balance, smoothness, power, reliability and value. The engine is 3L. The car comes standard with leather, wood finish and a range of luxury fittings for a car of this range like electric windows, central locking alarm, electric mirrors. The model that I have comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Even running at top speeds of 140miles, the 300E is stable and is an impressive performer. The handling feel of the car is superb. The ride is normally wonderfully smooth and the precise steering makes the driving experience more enjoyable. I have had this car for more than 10 years now and have had not major problems with the car...

Mercedes A160 - All things, for all men

Advantages: Interior Space, Visibility, Excellent engine & transmission
Disadvantages: Looks a bit like Camilla Parker-Bowles, head on.

People know this is a Mercedes Benz, and they certainly know the price premium that the badge requests. What people don't know, however, is that a used A-Class can be picked up for little more than Renault Scenic money. Interior You don't so much get in an A-Class, as step up into the very inviting interior. Those doors might look like they reach the floor of the car, but there's a good eight inches of extra height between the floor of the car and the floor...

...Stumbled across a single review of this vehicle which struck me as too eulogistic to be of much use. I live in Europe where attitudes to Mercedes products are less reverential and have had a manual transmission E220 CDi since Oct.2003 (which I'd like to sell). This model with 150 bhp/340nm. has effectively been superceded since July 2006 by a revised model with 170bhp and approx 400nm. and which among some 2000 changes has done away with the brake by wire system and probably other curiosities as well. Any German-speaking reader should look at ownership surveys, such as in Auto Motor und Sport 10 November 2004 edition. It is certainly a roomy, comfortable car to drive with good ride quality, low noise levels and fuel consumption and enough middle-range performance to perform very well on motorways. Mercedes S320, series 300SEL W140 1993

Advantages: Very high build quality, silent running, prestige, badge, lush, solid, fast, sumptuous.
Disadvantages: Difficult to park, dealer will empty your bank balence, large car - small....... !

...Mercedes 300SEL , S320 Limo 1993. How I acquired the vehicle? In my course of work (Mobile vehicle mechanic) I meet a lot of people in the trade. Because of this, I get the nod when any quality vehicles turn up in the scrapper (for what ever reason they were scrapped).... many times this is down to un-economic repair costs. Which are for this beast, astronomical? ...well if you are prey to main dealer prices and practices, cars like this will never be owned by the 'less well offs' and I include myself in that statement. It's better to be lucky than rich sometimes. For me, it's a case of; sod the usual car buying outlets and get your self down the scrapper. Lucky for me then! On first inspection of this car in the breakers yard, I was shocked by its size; it was huge, damaged, covered in dust + thick mud caked the wheel...

Our A Class Mercedes .....

Advantages: Very Economical, Small, Nippy, Compact, Easy To Park !!
Disadvantages: Several Blind Spots Throughout The Car !!

...the alloy wheels as we have lost the occasional wheel trim and they are £16 plus VAT. These cars come with an alarm complte with motion sensors, and a mecedes factory fitted immobiliser as standard and this is activated by a remote control key fob in which the ky is also very neatly stored. The security is excellent - although the alarm has gone off for no reason in the summer - we think it is because of the heat (always on very hot days) The dashboard is all LED display and it even alerts you as to when it needs a service. We have had ours from new and are very happy, its a nice car and a lot of car for the money - functions wise. But not the biggest car or the roomiest if you are like me and quite tall the long wheelbase version is definately a better option. Advantages: Fully loaded luxury motor leaving passengers and drivers wanting for nothing.
