A Merchants Tale
Advantages: Lovely surroundings and great food
Disadvantages: The location of the toilets
...I think that you could eat out for a year in Lancaster and be able to find somewhere new to eat everyday. One place that you must not miss out on if visiting the city is the wonderful little pub that has recently changed it's name from The Merchants to Merchants 1668.
Built in 1688 ( hence the name!!) the building was originally used as a wine cellar for Lancaster Castle and is part of the same building as the tourist information office. This tiny little pub is in Market Street just a stone throw away from the railway station in the road to the Castle and Priory. Set in Castle Hill opposite the main post office in Lancaster it is lovely little pub full of character and old world charm.
Recently taken over by new management the Merchant offers an incredible menu of locally produced food - and fits into the Gastropub bracket...

The Merchant Adventurers' Hall, York
Advantages: Lots of history
Disadvantages: Admission charges
.... The primary function was as a meeting place and this is still its main function today, although it is now open as a museum for visitors when meetings are not taking place. The York Guild of Merchant Adventurers is a charitable trust. They hold the accounts of this hall back to 1432 but their actual organisation dates back to around 1200. In their heyday they were an incredible powerful group of people and still hold high esteem today.
A short of flight of steps leads the visitor into a lobby area with a small reception to the right. There is an admission charge to visit here and this is where the fee is paid. The admission charges are:
Adults- £3.00
Children ? £1.00
Once inside the hall there are several directions to take. To the left there are two small rooms and a set of stairs leading to the basement. The basement is where the toilets are...

An alternative merchant account
Advantages: Easy to use payment proccessor
Disadvantages: Very strict security policy
...funds, ability to withdraw your funds to your bank account (not widely available though), multiple currencies accepted.
Disadvatages: Credit card number required to receive funds, strict security policy that causes lots of account freezing incidents (they have their reasons though)
- Business and premium accounts
In fact I can't see a reason that PayPal has 2 different account types that have no difference each from the other. Anyway, that's PayPal's business...
This is where PayPal reveils all it's functions. It's like obtaining a merchant account and e-commerce software for almost free. Especially, if you don't want your customers to know - or at least not to be so obvious to them - that you are not using your own merchant account but a payment proccessor, then PayPal is for you. Account charges and withdrawal fees are very low...

The One Account
Advantages: Paying off your mortgage quickly and saving you thousands of pounds
Disadvantages: You need a lot of common sense and future vision to benefit from this account
...I HAVE WROTE AN UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE. HOPE YOU ENJOY READING AND PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GET IN TOUCH IF YOU WISH. GARY.
The One Account?...where to begin??? Well for a start you need to have a common sense mentality, or this product will simply not work for you.
The account works by purchasing your house on your switch card, i.e. you have a massive overdraft; as simple as that.
You then pay in your wages and any other sums of money you can get hold of into your account, and hey presto, you simply pay off the debt.
Why does this product work for me? Well my scenario is that my I own over half of my property, so I benefit from the lowest rates of interest that they offer. If you are not in this situation then the account is not really for you as better deals can be found. Now for the interesting bit?..can you save money?.or do...

'Merchant' shows Will power
Advantages: Great story; fine acting from main characters
Disadvantages: Modern viewers may find Anti-Semitism disturbing
...***This opinion reveals major details about the film's plot, but they can be avoided.***
The time
Mid to late 16th century. There is tension between the Jews and the Christians. The Jews can lend money and demand interest; the Christians cannot.
The place
Venice, place of barges, canals and far more water than modern viewers will be used to; also home to a gaggle of bare-breasted prostitutes who appear occasionally
The players
Antonio, the merchant after whom the play and film are named: Jeremy Irons
His protégé, Bassanio: Joseph Fiennes
Bassanio's friend Gratiano: Kris Marshall
Lorenzo, another member of Bassanio's retinue: Charlie Cox
Shylock, a Jewish moneylender: played magnificently by Al Pacino
Portia, Bassanio's love interest: Lynn Collins
Nerissa, Portia's maid: Heather Goldenhersh
Jessica, Shylock's daughter...

Nationwide: Flex Account
Advantages: Good rates and great for internet usage. Excellent card when abroad.
Disadvantages: Slow to respond to internal e-mails.
...I have been with nationwide for many years and they have certainly improved. They have a wide range of accounts but best of all must be their Flex account. Once opened, it can be assessed on-line and money transferred from account to account with relative speed and ease.
One of its best assets is its debit card. If you travel abroad and need to draw out local currency, the card will let you but, you DONT incur any extra charges or fee's. You'll simply get charged the exchange rate for the amount. Well worth just for that reason alone.
Their interest rates are reasonable and, with many branches around, its not hard to get access. Morgage rates are quite good with competitive trackers.
The account comes with a cheque book but you dont have to use them. The branches also have cheque book sized ledges to keep track of your...

Impressive Internet Accounts
Advantages: 24/7 access online, excellent customer service
Disadvantages: Not all accounts include offline access
...Just before Christmas 2002, I was reviewing my limited savings and decided they needed to be spruced up. They were languishing in various old bank accounts, which do not pay particularly high interest rates e.g. old student accounts. So, I thought I'd shop around on the internet.
I took a look at Egg because they have become such a well-known, trusted bank. Most people will have heard of the Egg credit card (0% balance transfers for 6 months - "the card that loves you back") but they may not realise that Egg provides a whole range of standard financial products including mortgages, loans, ISAs and, crucially, savings accounts.
Accounts Available
Egg offers 4 different types of savings account: Internet, Investor, Standard and Cash Card. Each account offers a slightly different method of access and operation e...

SMILE CURRENT ACCOUNT: MAGDADH GOES ALL ETHICAL
Advantages: Ethical bank, good interest rates, cheap overdraft, OK site, Post Office OTC service
Disadvantages: Extortionate admin and penalty charges, can't remove overdarft, seems slow
...I will be very non-PC in this review, I am warning you. Everybody is raving about Smile, aren't they? Especially the ethically minded, politically conscious folk....
Smile IS an Internet-branch of Co-Operative bank and thus is considered to be a much better thing in ethical stakes than the let's say the corporate horror that is Barclays.
But it's not all that smiley and lovely down there in Smile-land.
This review relates only to the CURRENT ACCOUNT provided by Smile. There is no special category for these and general reviews seem to concentrate on that aspect of banking service.
I applied for the Smile current account back then in 2000. It was fairly early days of Internet banking and most of the bricks-and-mortar banks didn't offer the on-line facility.
Later on I acquired an on-line access to the Barclays account I...

Step Account
Advantages: ease of use
Disadvantages: no credit line
...The Natwest, along with most other high street banks has now launched its new 'Step' account designed for people that cannot pass credit score tests. It comes with a cashcard, solo debit card and paying in book and has standing order and direct debit facility. The account can be opened without any initial funds, and the identification needed is relaxed , i.e: they will accept PROVISIONAL driving licenses, birth certificates, household bills. At my local branch, the staff wre most helpful, and my account was opened immediately, with my cards etc arriving within a week of opening the account. The best feature of this account is that you cannot spend what you have not got, but should you wish to repair your credit standing, if you manage your step account for 6 months without problems, you can upgrade it to a normal current account, which...
