London Mercure - just what the doctor ordered!

Advantages: Very close to Tate Modern, and Southwark tube station
Disadvantages: Located on the other side of the river from the likes of Oxford Street

...I stayed at the London Mercure London City last weekend as part of a birthday treat from my boyfriend (I believe he booked it as part of a deal with rail tickets/show tickets/hotel, so am unable to tell you how much the hotel costs separately!). We stayed there for one night (a Saturday) after spending the day shopping in Oxford Street and the evening watching Phantom of the Opera at the London Palladium. We were able to check-in from 2 o'clock onwards, and we arrived at approximately 5pm. We were greeted at reception by a member of staff and a trainee, and were offered a smoking or non-smoking room. Without having booked anything we had arrived in the eastern town of Nijmegen around seven o'clock on a Friday night and headed for the railway station, assuming that there would be plenty of hotels in the immediate vicinity. A week at the Mercure...

Advantages: Reasonably priced!
Disadvantages: Rooms basic.

...I stayed at the Mercure in December 2005. It was a bit of last minute booking - booked it on the Friday and then travelled on the Monday. Due to this it was the literally the only place in central London available for the week and prior to this I had never even heard of the hotel! Location - It is literally just behind the Tate Modern and Millenium Bridge. It is about 10mins walk from the hotel to the nearest tube at London Bridge so it is relatively easy to get about. Rooms - Rooms are basic. Similar to staying in an Ibis or Travellodge. They do have everything you need though - TV, tea and coffee facilities etc. And they seemed clean. Facilities - The hotel has a small gym. In has a restaurant and bar but I never ate or drink so can't comment on this. Staff all seemed relatively friendly. Price - It was between £60...

...Nottingham has two large shopping centres, the Broadmarsh Centre and the Victoria Centre, situated at opposite ends of the city centre .The Victoria Centre is the bigger of the two, containing 120 shops (not counting all the various stalls in the market area.) Getting there is easy - if you drive, there's parking for over 2700 cars . If you don't drive, don't worry - almost all the Nottingham City Transport buses stop either directly outside the Victoria Centre, or within a few minutes walk of it . Other bus companies from slightly further afield, such as Trent Barton , terminate at the local coach station within the centre . If you're walking, the centre is signposted from various points in the city centre, and at the end of the day when you're weighed down with shopping, there are 2 taxi ranks directly outside the main entrance...

Job Centre fiasco

Disadvantages: Too many to mention

...Very briefly as the wife of a man who was made redundant the thought of the Job Centre plus being helpful no longer exists. As a mortgage holder and family with two school age children my husband was only entitled to Job Seeks Allowance (JSA). This was paid for 26 weeks and then after still not successful in securing employment, this was stopped. Because I work more than 20 hours a week (I am still only part time) I am expected to support the family and bills. My husband has never been asked how much I earn. This assessment is merely done of the hours I work and not the take home pay coming into the home. Having never claimed any benefits at all before this (but we are in a recession as you all know) we enquired about training and extra help, but, alas, there was no entitlement apparently. Stay at the Mercue

Advantages: clean, Cheap and freindly
Disadvantages: No drink making facilities in room - only the mini bar

...If you are looking to stay in the centre of Marseille close to the marina and excellent fish restaurents for a cheap price then this is the place for you. The hotel is located approx 20--25mins in a taxi away from Marseille Airport with a cost in the regionof 45 - 60 ~Euros (the maximum I have paid is 53 Euros, seems to be the same as anwhere in the UK, it is the luck of the draw which taxi driver you get. The hotel is just arount the corner from the View Port, far enough away not to be disturbed in the evening but close enough to walk to plenty of restaurents. If you like fish then this is the place to go as there is a great number of fish restaurants. Location Dover Leisure Centre is located on Townwall Street in Dover which is pretty much on the seafront and within walking distance to the Port of Dover.
