A Place to Rest your Weary Head in Budapest

Advantages: Clean, modern, good breakfast, mainly helpful staff and reasonable location
Disadvantages: One member of staff rude.

...Hotel: Mercure Budapest Metropol Address: 58 Rakoczi, Budapest,1074, Hungary Telephone: 00 36 (0) 1 462 8100 Travelling with a group at a popular time such as New Year can often make finding hotels difficult. This year I was single so needed a single room, and this was proving to be difficult as many places did not offer single rooms and if they did they were more of the two star variety (and not good 2 stars according to some reviews) so had to bite the bullet and get a room that was only a fraction less than the price of my friends' doubles. Apart from that the only criteria was that the hotel be centrally located and clean. The hotel Budapest Metropol certainly fitted the above criteria and we booked the rooms through www.superbreak.com as they were offering four nights for the price of three on a bed & breakfast basis...

KK Opera Hotel Budapest

Advantages: Good city centre location, great froiendly staff
Disadvantages: small rooms, poor showers.

...The last of a Hungary trilogy - I promise!! The KK Opera Hotel wasn't my choice and I have mixed views about it. I'll be brief and to the point - no point in padding this one out Location: Well being by the river is great, but this is in the centre of the old city , and is within spitting distance of the magnificent Opera House and right by the Opera Metro station; you can walk comfortably to the river in under 15 mins. As a four star hotel costing £80-90 a night I would call this a 3 star 4 star hotel. It had some good feature and it had some bad features. Let's start with the bad features. 1.The room was by my own experience of 4star hotels, a bit on the small side. 2.The bathroom/toilet door was spring loaded. Metal to metal door latches at even a moderate speed makes a resounding and irritating crash. Not good...

Budapest Marriott

Advantages: Beautiful hotel with friendly staff
Disadvantages: none

...In February, I went to Budapest with my parents for a few days. My dad booked the break over the internet (flights and accommodation) so he chose the hotel that we stayed in. Having stayed in a Marriott hotel on a previous holiday, I was not disappointed when he told us that we would be staying in a Marriott in Budapest. What I didn't know until we got there was that we would be staying in a junior suite! (The room was discounted when we stayed so we got a better room for our money! :) The Budapest Marriott is located on the riverside of Pest and had a fantastic view of the river Danube. We were lucky enough to have a water facing room. The hotel was within walking distance of the main attractions in the city centre. The hotel was about 20 minutes form the airport and cost approximately 35 Euros (about £24) to get there. Upon...

Delta Hotel 42 The Damrak Amsterdam City Centre

Advantages: Superb Central Location
Disadvantages: Strict on Room Checkout Times

...street, it is an excellent location to relax over a good breakfast whilst watching the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. If you just fancy a snack, a few doors down from the hotel is 'Pizza M Slice' serving the best (yep you've guessed it) pizza in the city. A must try. If you are travelling to Amsterdam by car (not recommended) the hotel has arranged a 15% discount off parking fees at a car park a few minutes away. Parking is very expensive in the city, and as the public transport is excellent and the majority of attractions are close by, a car really is not needed. For those of a sporty nature there is a modern fitness centre 20 meters from the hotel, where, in cooperation with the fitness centre, there is a discount for guests. All in all, the Hotel Delta is an ideal choice for the budget-minded traveler, very reasonable rates...

Luxury in Budapest

Advantages: Clean, quiet, luxurious
Disadvantages: None

..., and is apparantly quite famous for its food. However, wanting a bit of local culture, we decided not to eat in the restaurant. **Hotel information** For guests in its 71 rooms, this has all the usual amenities you would expect: parking, restaurant, bar, 24hour front desk, non smoking rooms, airport shuttle, soundproof rooms (??), laundry, dry cleaning, 24 hour room service etc. There are also 5 meeting rooms, with capacities for between 15 and 25 people, and there are business services provided. **Local Landmarks** Buda Castle 3km National Opera House 1km Parliament 2km City Centre 2km Buda Hills 10km **Verdict** We had a FAB time in Budapest- the city seems to never sleep, even when it is sub zero temperatures and the snow still falls. We found a great bar/cavern-Piaf's and the hotel staff were very understandable about...

* A Great City Centre Hotel *

Advantages: Location , rooms ,
Disadvantages: expensive , weird food

...I have just realised that I stay in a lot of hotels over the year as I tend to visit Glasgow and London alot, so the cost soon add's up! Anyway on my last trip to Glasgow I thought i'd try a different hotel for a change as I go back to the same one ( as i know it's good) The Park in caught my eye because behind the reseption desk there is a water fall that changes colour , everytime I walked past this hotel I wanted to stay there!! ~*Location*~ it's 30 seconds from Glasgow bus station , not kidding you can see it from your window !! Very Central ~*The room*~ The room was lovely. The Ensuite had a cool jet shower.one thing is part of the bathroom wall was made of glass blocks which I found a bit strange as it was looknig into the room and you can see right in! ~* Extra Informatioin*~ This hotel is a 4 start hotel and it...

London Mercure - just what the doctor ordered!

Advantages: Very close to Tate Modern, and Southwark tube station
Disadvantages: Located on the other side of the river from the likes of Oxford Street

...I stayed at the London Mercure London City last weekend as part of a birthday treat from my boyfriend (I believe he booked it as part of a deal with rail tickets/show tickets/hotel, so am unable to tell you how much the hotel costs separately!). We stayed there for one night (a Saturday) after spending the day shopping in Oxford Street and the evening watching Phantom of the Opera at the London Palladium. We were able to check-in from 2 o'clock onwards, and we arrived at approximately 5pm. We were greeted at reception by a member of staff and a trainee, and were offered a smoking or non-smoking room. We opted for a non-smoking room and were given room 502 on the 5th floor. Room 502 is just a few steps away from the lift, and is forwards facing so you can see straight out into Southwark Street. It is a two-person room with a decent...

Apex City of London Hotel - outstanding

Advantages: Lovely staff, beautiful rooms, modern hotel
Disadvantages: Slightly out of the way of the West End

...We wanted to stay somewhere in central London that was value for money, and found this brilliant hotel for only £69 per night. We booked directly with the hotel itself, and while the system can be a little frustrating the transaction went through smoothly. This was in December 2008, so we didn't expect any decent hotels so close to Christmas to be so cheap. While this hotel is a little out of the way of main attractions it is close to the Tower of London, and to Tower Bridge and easily accessible by bus and tube. On arriving by tube, we found the hotel was alittle bit tricky to find, and were saved only by the fact that by boyfriend's phone has sat-nav! On arriving we were greeted by friendly and efficeint staff. The entrance to the hotel was modern and swish, befitting a four star hotel with marble and stainless tell everywhere...

A Hotel in that Toddlin' Town, Chicago

Advantages: Fast, friendly, efficient service. Comfortable and spacious bedrooms
Disadvantages: Extra charges for wi-fi and parking.

...~~A little background~~ Chicago was the starting point for our recent road trip touring Northern America. The road trip mapped out, our next step was selecting the hotels. For Chicago, our choice was the Chicago City Centre Hotel & Sports Club. Why? The hotel is close to many of Chicago's attractions - close enough to walk to many with trolley stops nearby to those further away. But as our preference is for quiet - not on the busy Michigan Avenue! The hotel has parking facilities - essential as we were hiring a car. And last but not least we wanted a hotel at the beginning of the holiday that was a little bit special - most of the others on the trip mainly travel motels just somewhere to rest our heads. The Chicago City Centre Hotel & Sports Club is classified as three stars but has more of a four star look and feel...
