Located within Amsterdam's 'ring of canals' (Grachtengordel) Mercure Amsterdam Arthur Frommer is one of the city's best-placed hotels, being within walking distance from some of Amsterdam's most iconic attractions. Located on a quiet street, this four-star hotel was created from 19 17th century Weaver's Houses, so Amsterdam's classic charm is effortlessly combined with stylish boutique interiors, making this a truly unique place to stay. Get an authentic taste of Amsterdam through its bustling markets and where better to start than the Bloemenmarkt - the world's only floating flower market - which is just moments away. For exotic herbs and spices, visit Albert Cuypmarkt or head to Waterlooplein Flea Market and peruse the 300 stalls that occupy this outdoor bazaar. See the city from an historical perspective at the Rijksmuseum - dedicated to the Netherlands' arts and history - or visit Anne Frank House for a palpable slice of Amsterdam's rich past.Head back to the comfort and charm of Mercure Amsterdam Arthur Frommer for a pre-dinner cocktail before a traditional Dutch dinner of Stamppot at a nearby, canal-side restaurant. Unwind with a soothing session in the hotel's sauna or book yourself in for a massage. Retreat to your chic boudoir where you'll have a views out across the neighbouring Amsterdam houses.
Advantages: Comfortable, clean, not far from station or city centre. Very high standard of rooms. Disadvantages: Poor TV reception, terrible tea at breakfast!

The second is the Holland House Hotel and Spa, only five minutes walk from the Brigstow but in a quieter spot on Redcliffe Hill. Choosing the quieter option, I stayed for a Saturday night at the four star Holland House in July 2009.
Advantages: Well located in Duisberg, quite close to the railway station, good comfort level Disadvantages: Quite high priced accomodation
...part of the hotel was really good.
I thought overall, that this is a really good hotel that is well located and provides a good level of service throughout. As a leisure traveler, I would stay again at the Mercure because of its location and for the breakfast. I thought this was a reasonably good value place to stay. It was a clean and comfortable stay at the Hotel Mercure Duisburg...
...Manchester?s Mercure Hotel may not be one of the city?s most exciting accommodation options but it can certainly boast a great location if you need to be close to transport connections. We were travelling after work from Newcastle to Manchester, with a flight early the following afternoon from Manchester Airport. We wouldn?t arrive in Manchester until around 8.30pm so we didn?t want to stay too...
