I Didn't Want to Leave Lovely Holland House
Advantages: Comfortable, clean, not far from station or city centre. Very high standard of rooms.
Disadvantages: Poor TV reception, terrible tea at breakfast!
...The Mercure chain owns two hotels in Bristol. One is the Brigstow in Welsh Back, a busy area for nightlife right beside the river. The second is the Holland House Hotel and Spa, only five minutes walk from the Brigstow but in a quieter spot on Redcliffe Hill. Choosing the quieter option, I stayed for a Saturday night at the four star Holland House in July 2009.

Advantages: Clean, comfortable, handy for trams, good breakfast
Disadvantages: Communication issues with staff
...travel a lot and by staying in hostels and private rooms I can cut my costs and make my money go further; besides, an IBIS room looks pretty much the same wherever you go in Europe, whereas staying in the home of a local person gives you a whole new perspective on a country.
