Mercury goes Solo

...The new Freddie Mercury Solo Collection was released this week and to my surpise it is affordable!! You can pick up a 3 CD (yes that's 3 Cds) for just £17.99 - a bargain I am sure you will agree! There is of course the more expensove de-lux version costing £120.00 but for any fan (not serious collectors) the 3 cd choice is ample. If you are familiar with Freddie's sole work then you will recognise all tracks in the package but for the first time, in my expereice, you can own the wonderful "Larry Lurex - I Can Hear Music" track which Freddie did for a joke just before Queen hit the big time! And, of course there is the Mr Bad Guy album , the original of which is getting rarer and rarer - I recently sold a Mint US vinyl copy for £50.00!! So it is a real joy to have a 2000 digitally remastered version - if you are looking for an original...

Advantages: Can't get into debt, lots of shops take it, from 11 with some banks,
Disadvantages: Woolies don't take it!

...Switch, Delta, Electron, Solo - they're all basically the same. I used to have a Switch card - accepted by virtually every shop or service - a debit card by any other name. I now have a Solo card, due to recent financial difficulties it was all I could get. This works in much the same way as a Switch card - it's a debit card which you hand over in place of cash for payment and saves time and hassle writing cheques. Funds are normally debited from your bank account within one to two working days and you can also get up to £50 cashback with it where that facility is available. ITS A SOLO THING

...What is SOLO? SOLO is a debit card for people aged between 11-21. It has been around for quite a few years now, since 1997. I have one of these cards and I think there absolutely brilliant! I'm very impressed and happy with it. My SOLO card is based with my Natwest account but you can get them elsewhere too. I'm only 14 years old and I think its brilliant having my own personal card. Many folk think that we're too young to own our own personal debit card and we deserve too loose our priveledges for mis-using it and getting in debt. (Which happens!) but not all young kids and teenagers are like others are they? I always make sure that I'm NEVER in debt and am always very careful with my account. The thing about this account is that you can get in debt VERY EASILY and people think this is inappropriate to children as young as 11 years...

A pretty good collection of Freddie's solo works

Advantages: Some classic solo tracks
Disadvantages: A collection which doesn't separate the wheat from the chaff

...Let's be honest from the start of this review. This is not a collection for the casual, curious fan coming across Freddie for the first time. If you are that sort of person, then you should probably be looking at the more recent "greatest hits" style album that has just been released. For the more dedicated fan however, this is a decent package containing 2 complete albums - 1983's Mr Bad Guy and 1998's Barcelona, a collaboration with Monserrat Caballé - along with a bonus CD. Disc 1 - Mr Bad Guy is probably Freddie's best and possibly best known solo album released in 1983 at a time when critics of Queen were lampooning the band's seeming loss of direction. The album consists of 11 tracks and is alot poppier than Queen's output ever was. It's a mix of up beat dance and piano based ballads. Two tracks - Made In Heaven and I Was...

The web site is really colourful, very easy to use and has loads of pages to view. It sells holidays for Malta, Cyprus, Madeira, Barbados, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, South Africa, Fuji and Australia. SOLO - THE ONLY CHOICE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Advantages: Accepted almost everywhere, Easy access to money, Beats cash

Add this album to their unforgettable intimate live performances and Mercury Rev rightfully hold pride of place on the a-list of innovative artists.
