Stunning sound performance.
Advantages: Sound quality, even at very high volume. Easy positioning.
Disadvantages: Price, incompatable with most Hi-Fi.
...I heard these speakers in my local Hi-Fi shop and was totally amazed by the sound quality. I had previously been listening to a pair of £1,000+ floor standing speakers but when switching to the DSP5000s the difference in clarity was simply stunning. It was as if pillows had been removed from the side of my head.
Sadly these beasts cost in the region of £4,000 and to make matters worse they are digital, which means they are only really compatible with other Meridian kit. The "budget" surround sound processor is a further £2,850. Sadder still, I knew I was hooked and would never be satisfied until I had a pair in my living room.
After eating gruel for a year and selling all my family (only a slight exaggeration) I installed them into my audio/TV setup. The sound is totally compelling, crystal clear throughout the range with no bass...

Peugeot 306 1.6 Meridian
Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: As with most cars dealership repairs and servicing are pricey
...My 306 meridian has been in the family since its birth in 1996. It was an ex demonstrator and I can honestly say it has been the most reliable car any one of us has owned. It has never broken down (touch wood). The exhaust has only been replaced once in its life. Having said that my local peugeot garage is excellent (more than I can say for Vauxhall) and the car has been regularly serviced. By this I mean a full service at least once a year. The only fault it has had ,that has been a niggle, rather than an annoyance, is the pin which prevents the drivers door swinging back has popped out twice.
The central locking has recently stopped working on the drivers door, but due to the age of the car I'm not surprised. It has over 114000 miles on the clock and still manages over 35 to the gallon (1.6 cc). Unfortunately due to...

vintage classic British amplification from 1978
Advantages: sound quality, build quality, design
Disadvantages: lacks inputs, which used to be a problem, but isn't anymore
...The Meridian 105 power ampliers come as two pairs of boxes, each channel is amp + power supply.
I had went along to Graham's Hi-fi back in 1978 and they encouraged people to listen to their own equipment along side that which the sales assistant short listed for you. So I packed my Cambridge P80 and JR149 speakers and Transciptor Turntable. I had found the P80 lacking, when used with the JR149. First to note that when paired with a pair of Kef 104 speakers the greater efficient of the Kef made the P80 work.
Various tests and combinations where set up until the source was changed for a Linn Sondek, feed into the P80 and JR149/Kef 104.
The amplifier was then replaced with the Meridian 104 and 105 mono power amps. This is the only time that the JR149 delivered it full potential, a huge difference in sound quality.
Other...

Spread The Word For These Little Amber Gems Of Summer.
Advantages: Tastes like eating the fresh fruit.
Disadvantages: None though it is expensive.
...It's early May, and looking at my garden I think summer is coming. The trees are all in blossom, and the birds are nesting; forthcoming seasons are beckoning, and the promise of harvests and sunny days ahead.
Meridian Organic Apricot Spread always reminds me of this time of year, as it is the start of the period when you can buy seasonal fruit more cheaply, without having to import it air freighted from all over the globe, adding to all sorts of environmental concerns. I love apricots, they have to be some of my favourite fruits, and Meridian have packed these into this spread, which is quite simply like putting the fruit itself onto your toast in the morning.
When I did A level geography, many moons ago, we learnt that the only place in the UK with any success growing cherries, and apricots, was in Kent, where the climate was...

A touch of class...
Advantages: Reliable, economical and with creature comforts
Disadvantages: Lack of Storage
...sizes (1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0 litres) and shapes (estate, cabriolet and hatchback). The Meridian is an edition of the car that added a few luxury touches.
MY 306 has a design that is pleasing to the eye (mine anyway) with attractive lines, alloy wheels and a metallic silver finish.
THE DOORS are opened by remote control key, or if the battery fails by opening either of the front doors. The front doors have a side impact bar, and make the appropriate clunk when you shut them. The back doors are not so well protected but are a reasonable size for anyone getting into the back seats.
THE SEATS are comfortable in the front and back, and are semi leather covered. Front seats have lumbar support and can be raised and lowered as required. As regards leg room, for me (6? 1??) as driver it is adequate, and comfortable. I can not...

DSP... Pregnancy without a leg to stand on
Advantages: of pregancy? loads! of DSP? none!
Disadvantages: plenty -read on!
...that had a lot of information http://dsp.future.easyspace.com/, and meant I could finally find out what had happened to me. Their homepage explained that during pregnancy, hormones are produced which soften and stretch all the ligaments in the body so that the baby can grow and ultimately be squeezed down the birth canal. I had simply produced too much of the hormones responsible (progesterone and relaxin I think) and my pelvis had ‘sagged’, particularly in the area I had always assumed to be the pubic bone – actually it’s not a bone I found, but a thick cartilage joint. This accounted for the extreme pain when I walked as the bones scissored against one another where they weren’t meant to meet at all. The site stressed that every case history was different but left me with the inescapable conclusion that I...

The ultimate headset
Advantages: Folds away
Disadvantages: None I know of
...The Plantronics DSP 400 headset is the perfect headset for anyone interested in Podcast making, internet calling or video gaming.
I have owned this headset for many years now and it is a fantastic product. At the time, it cost £50 although I got it for £30. You'll be able to pick it up for a lot less now, and its certainly worth it!
I use mine mainly for internet calling with my friends and the sound quality of the earphones is exemplary. In addition, the headset is noise canceling meaning that whilst you speak down it, the headset filters out that frustrating background noise most microphones give you.
The headset also folds away so that it is small and can be stored easily. The USB plug is superior to the green and pink mini-jacks as it is digital, improving quality, and USB ports are usually easier to get to.
Finally...

An all round good runner, but with flaws
Advantages: Air con, power steering, ABS, Comfortable drive
Disadvantages: Poor reliability, Terrible customer support, poor waranty, tyre wear problem, poor build
...I bought my V-reg Pug 306 Meridian about 15 months ago. It was 3 months old at the time of buying, and although it's generally an all round good car, I would not go as far as giving it full marks. I have a habit of waffling, so I'll get to the point, the pro's and con's! :
Pro's -
* Not a bad looking car - Although mine is a 5 door, it still looks nice, even though I haven't cleaned it for a while! It has a reasonable body kit, but not too sporty. Even though the 306 hasn't changed much over the years.
* Power steering - A must, and it's not really loose like some cars like some Rover's I've been in!
* Dual airbags - Better safety, and with the option to turn off the passenger side airbag for having a baby seat.
* Half leather interior - Nice, and not as cold as full leather, when it's winter!
* Brushed aluminium look dash...

Peugeot 306 HDi Meridian
Advantages: Looks; Chassis; Reliability; Drivabilty
Disadvantages: Can be a bit heavy on front tyres
...I bought our 306 HDi for my wife. I wanted her to have a safe, reliable car, which is also easy for her to drive. I knew my wife liked the 306 (I used to own several as company cars) and the 306 Meridian is the best of the range.
In the 2 years we've owned it, I have had the car regulary serviced. Apart from new tyre and brake pads all round, the only non service item the car has required is a radiator as the coolant level was dropping very slightly. It only cost for £100 to renew the part, so this hardly broke the bank
Equipment levels are good. Electric windows, remote central locking, automatic wipers, air con, c.d. player, alloy wheels, 1/2 leather seats - everything that is needed in a car. I've upgraded the ICE to included a 10 stack CD player, which sits nicely in the boot.
To drive the car is a delight - I don't Peugeot...

The sound of the future
Advantages: good value for money
Disadvantages: doesn't serve popcorn
...The Yamaha DSP-A5, is probably slightly outdated now, but it did in an award form ‘what hifi’ magazine.
This amplifier has all the great features you would want for using as a home cinema. To use this amp to its best you will need some good quality speakers. Two fronts, two rears, a centre and a sub woofer. Without these speakers there isn’t much point having the amplifier!! The price when I got the amp was £300. This at the time was really the better sort, but there are probably better ones now. I would recommend this amp for the very top end of a low budget; it cost now is probably around £250.
For the money you are spending you are getting loads of features, and a great sound. The amp is purely an amplifier, so unlike a receiver it doesn’t include a radio, but that’s no problem, a radio can...
