Wii Sing!

Advantages: Good fun, four can play at once
Disadvantages: Average price, unoriginal idea

...Last Christmas we were given as a family a main present for us all to share from our grandparents; something which we've had a lot of use out of and has been a really great present and a year later we still love playing on it - a Nintendo Wii. This Christmas we were given some games for our beloved Wii, and one of these games was this one: We Sing I'm not the best singer in the world by a good few miles, I'm probably one of the worst but as I'm sure most people do I do like a good sing along from time to time, and especially the Christmas atmosphere seems to bring out in us a happy, singy sort of mood and the whole family has been having a go on this new game. Up to four people can sing at once, as you can only have up to four Wii remotes going at once on most games for the Wii. This is a game which is a bit like kareoke so...

We sing - karaoke for the wii!

Advantages: Four player mode
Disadvantages: lack of songs, poor gameplay

...I am not one of those strange people who get excited as soon as they see a karaoke machine - I'm not a great singer although I'm not tuneless, just a bit dirgey. I do however love to sing when I'm by myself - in the shower, in the car, when I'm cooking etc. I guess its mainly shyness which means I don't like karaoke down the pub, though I do quite enjoy watching everyone else making fools of themselves! I have played Singstar and Lips round at friends houses over the last year, mostly when drunk, and quite enjoyed them. A few glasses of wine and the security of my best mate's front room can usually be relied upon to bring me out of my shell, and I have been thinking for a while that it would be good to get something similar for my Wii, mainly for when people come round. You don't have to go to sea for this Mermaid.

Advantages: Good well cooked food and a vast choice
Disadvantages: The distance for us to travel, I would like it to be a bit closer to home

Fancy sharing your bath with a mermaid??

Advantages: fun toy for the bath
Disadvantages: none

...MY daughter is a big fan of Dora the Explorer so she was highly delighted when she received this Dora Swim and Splash Mermaid as a present from her nan on her fourth birthday. I was also very pleased because this is a bath toy and most of the bath toys we have, we have had since the girls were babies so they seem to have outgrown most. The toy is about 25 cm tall and although it has Dora's face, instead of legs she has a mermaid's tail. She has long black hair and a beautiful jewelled necklace around her neck. I'm sure that my daughter would be perfectly happy just to play with her in the bath as she is (because she thinks she is so pretty), even if she did nothing extra at all! But of course there is more to this toy because this is a 'swim and splash' mermaid, so as you would expect, Dora does actually swim - or I would say she has...

Fairies and Mermaids galore

Advantages: Lovely book for fairy and mermaid mad little people!
Disadvantages: None unless you don't like them!

...A lovely book for anyone who loves fairies and mermaids and wants to draw and paint them. This was a definite for little miss who seems to spend all her time drawing pictures of fish tailed ladies and those little flying ladies and girls. The book gets straight onto the descriptions of how to draw them, without any long forward or explanantion as to how the book should be used. After all, if you buy the book, you want to learn how to draw them not be told how to use the book! It is divided into two page spreads detailing the drawing or painting of diiferent types of mermaids and fairies, startin, naturally enough, with simple fairies. Other activities include Love Heart fairies, Rainy Day fairies, Fairy Paperchain, Mermaids' Tea party, Mermaid door sign. In all, there are 17 activites, so more than enough to keep little people...

...the film is about a mermaid who is always getting into trouble with her father. she is a girl called ariel who goes around exploring the sea with her friend flunder. then one day they is a ship which catches fire and a young man eric is drowning but ariel saves his life and brings him back to land she sings to eric and leaves. Eric has fallen in love with Ariel and searches for her but doesnt find her. Ariel wanted to see Eric again so she goes to see the evil sea witch who gives her legs, but the deal is Ariel has to kiss him within three days but the witch takes her voice as payment. Ariel finds Eric and they almost kiss but the sea witch has her sidekicks ruin the chance for Ariel, then a few days later the sea witch turns up as a beautiful lady with Ariels voice she lures Eric in and he arranges to marry her. ...I would love to visit all the capital cities of Europe, so naturally, last October, when I was given the opportunity to go to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, I grabbed it with open hands! I have always loved Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, so with Copenhagen once being his home, I was absolutely delighted to be going. The Little Mermaid was one of the first attractions we visited because we really wanted to see it and we were only there for four days. We didn't realise when we first set off but The Little Mermaid was quite a long distance from our hotel. It must have taken a good 45 minutes to walk there. (Granted, we probably weren't walking very fast, but all the same!). We walked along the edge of the river most of the way there expecting to see it every 5 minutes we walked! The last hurrah for Sing-Sing

Advantages: A decent mixture of tunes
Disadvantages: They only made 2 albums

...Sing-Sing were formed in 1997 after Emma Anderson left Lush & was joined by singer Lisa O'Neill (who appears to have had no life prior to the formation of this group at all), the group existed as 2 members but with other musicians who joined them for live performances. Anderson wrote the songs, played guitars (all of them) but O'Neill mostly sang but did write 5 songs on this album and co-wrote one too. Sing-Sing started out releasing EPs much in the same way as Lush but had a much smaller fanbase, they struggled with record companies working their way through Bella Union, Sanctuary Records and Poptones before creating Aerial which was their own label and it took fan power to keep the band financially stable enough to record this which was their 2nd and final album which had taken 4 years to come to fruition.
