MERTON HOTEL, ST SAVIOUR JERSEY

Advantages: lovely food, polite staff, great swimming pool
Disadvantages: no sea view, small television

...My husband and I have just spent 5 nights at the Merton Hotel in St Saviour in Jersey, Channel Islands. We stayed from Sundary 2 September 2007 to Friday 7 September 2007 and we had a great stay. The Merton Hotel is owned by Seymour Hotels and is a 3 star hotel. Jersey have their own system of rating hotels which is different to the UK, but the ratings are of a very high standard. We stayed in a double ensuite room and we had free half board for the price of bed and breakfast. We booked through Condor Ferries and took our own car and paid a total of £769 for the trip (£79 of which was for the car ferry travel). OUR BEDROOM +++++++++++++++ Our room was plainly and pleasantly decorated, with chrome light fittings everywhere. The furniture was ample, being a built in wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers...

Paul Merton is Fab, as is the show!

Advantages: Great presenter, very fun, good concept
Disadvantages: Occasionally poor guests

...Room 101 is a really well thought out show with a hilarious presenter. Paul Merton really does put the spark into Have I Got News For You and he does it in his new series too. The idea is where the guests must talk about an item for around five minutes which they want abolished. If Paul Merton feels that his guests reasons are fair, then he puts into Room 101, if not, it remains out. It is good that they use the same guest for the whole 30 minutes as many programs similar to this try to pack in too many guests for the time allowed. The show is hilariously funny and is the only part of the comedy zone at the moment that I personally feel is worth watching. My only minor criticism is that the guests sometimes, are not very well known although they are always very funny and if they weren't, Paul Merton would be enough for me!...

It's Time For The Final Reckoning

Advantages: A good enjoyable read with a bit of historical information
Disadvantages: I would have avoided it after his debut novel

...When an NYPD terror suspect steps foot on to UN property in New York the UN security take the warning seriously and shoot the suspect. Instead of a terror suspect however, they have shot 77 year old British tourist Gerald Merton. The UN turn to one of their former employees, lawyer Tom Byrne to go to England and make peace with Merton's daughter Rebecca. Once in England with Rebecca things start to unfold that hint that Gerald Merton wasn't quite as innocent as he made out, some shocking revelations are about to spill forward. I actually bought this book thinking it was a totally different author and lead character. Having read Sam Bourne's debut novel The Righteous Men I didn't really hold out much hope. That book had failed to really hold my attention and didn't really have that addictive edge that would make me keep reading. So...

...Have I got news for you is a masterpiece of comic writing and quick wit. The only show that even comes close is They Think its all Over and this whilst still being very funny, lacks the intellectual edge that HIGNY has. Of course it is not always intellectually stimulating as the references by Paul Merton to his ?metalwork? day pays testament. Angus Deayton is a perfect host and personifies the English dry wit that others try and fail to carry off. The shows format has never changed, the regulars have moved around but have returned to the original format and this with out is a great success story for the BBC....

Have I got News for You review

...Have I got News for You is a British panel show focusing on the week's big news. It was first broadcast in 1990 and has been signed up until the end of 2009, which means it'll be running until at least it's 38th series. The set up is pretty standard; there is one chairman in the middle, who is in charge and awards the points etc. To each of his sides there are two team captains, Paul Merton and Ian Hislop, and accompanying them are two special guests, usually a politician, comedian or TV personality. For the first twelve years the show was hosted by Angus Deayton, but in 2002 a story broke out about him, a prostitute and some illegal drugs. He was humiliated by the two team captains (which I still think is one of the funniest episodes) and was fired a few months later. To be honest, I couldn't see him carrying on, his dead-pan manner...

Banish you pet hates to hell...

...Room 101 is a chat show with a difference, instead of talking about things that the guest likes, they talk about the things that they don't like. They do this in an attempt to banish them to Room 101, a kind of mythical vault in the BBC or something?! The show has been around for a few years now and although it hasn't changed much over the years, it is still one of the best chat shows around, as they don't talk about midless rubbish, they talk about peoples hates! The show is presented by Paul Merton, who is quite funny and makes the show what it is, I don't think anyone else could make the show what it is. On the show come a wide variety of celebs from the past and present from all areas, like show biz to politics etc... They guest has about six things they want to go into Room 101 and they have to convince Paul Merton...
