Advantages: good end result, friendly & welcoming environment
Disadvantages: Not the banter of a barbour shop

...Since turning 20 I've been getting a bit sick of the old 'short back & sides.' I thought I'd try a more upper market salon than a barbour shop. There's a few of both in the metrocentre, the shopping mall in Gateshead, Tyneside. I was just after an improvement but not sure what. I'd a recommendation of Toni & Guy. I looked around the metrocentre on a quiet Tuesday morning to check out all salons, not just T&G. The others had groups of staff, who weren't cutting hair, crowding round a seat. This always puts me off any kind of shop. However the few members of staff in T&G were cutting hair, with one sitting behind the desk looking busy. Minories Honda Dealer Gateshead Nr Metrocentre

Disadvantages: Shark car dealers

...of spending weekends trailing around garages looking for the right motor only to find it was already sold or had body damage etc. This happy mood did not last long after I had my first dealing with Minories Honda dealer in Gateshead next to the Metrocentre. Sitting in the corner covered in muck was a Breeze blue Corsa. The state of the car did not bother me, as I knew it would clean up nice because after all it was only 6-7 months old. I was asked if the salesman could help me, and off we went. First off all I wanted to know the price of the vehicle and off we went to talk about the car. A Very Glassy (sic) Hotel!

Advantages: Very convenient location; extremely comfortable hotel.
Disadvantages: If I MUST find one, it would be that we had to ask three times for a cot. Otherwise, tickety-boo in all respects.

Shopping with friends at the MetroCentre Gateshead

Advantages: Just the right amount of variety
Disadvantages: Hard to navigate (but a laugh when you get lost)

...MetroCentre was, I believe, the first out-of-town shopping centre in the UK and it is, in my opinion, the best. First of all, unlike Meadowhall or the White Rose, it is set quite a way out from Newcastle upon Tyne and so will not drag trade away from it as much as Meadowhall or the White Rose which are set right on the road into thier respective cities. Also, MetroCentre (owned by Capital Shopping Centres plc) takes quite a pride in the image of the centre and gives it character without trying to pretend that it is something it isn't. Let me explain, As MetroCentre was the first out-of-town shopping centre, it didn't really have much to go on in terms of past experience of others, i.e. they were the experiment, so to speak. ...**OK, disclaimer - the Metrocentre is not in Newcastle, whatever category this appears in. Its actually in Gateshead, south of the Tyne, thank you very much!** As an adopted Geordie, I have been known to take part in that great north eastern pastime - a visit to the MetroCentre. (You must have heard of it - I'm sure it was mentioned on Byker Grove on a weekly basis). Up until a couple of years ago, this was the largest shopping and retail "city" in the UK, although it has now been surpassed by the Trafford Centre in Manchester and that new place in Essex (Blue Water?). TGI Fridays

Advantages: Good service lovely food

...I went here for the first time last week. The service was excellent and very quick. A fairly large group of us got seated straight away anmd our drinks and starters arrived quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and it seemed everyone else did too. The waiting staff were all goo natured, happy to help and friendly. The servings are quite good and everything is very tasty. I would go back, a slight drawback is the price but on the otherhand the quality is good. It is really close to the metrocentre so is a good place to round off a nights shopping, bowling or film watching!...

Best city in the world!

Advantages: the people are the friendliest i've ever met

...OK, I live in Newcastle so obviously I'm slightly biased, but having been on many weekends to other so-called "party cities" then I can say for sure - Newcastle is the best!! The shopping is fantastic, whether you're in the centre on Northumberland Street, in Gateshead at the MetroCentre or in the many side streets of Newcastle in the vintage shops. Take your pick of transport - by air, train, bus, car, metro - the list is endless! The sightseeing is fantastic, with loads of attractions. Newcastle's hotels are all really central and well-presented, and the nightlife speaks for itself. I know no other city in the UK where you can walk between all the major night time attractions like you can in Newcastle; start off at Central Station with a few in the lively North bar, Apartment, Perdu or Revolution, then either head down to the Quayside...

It's Beary cute!

...I remember when the Bear Factory first opened up in the Metrocentre. I would have been around eight or nine at the time, and still completely in love with teddy bears. As soon as I entered the world of stuffed animals and clothes, I knew it was the most perfect place for me. I found myself spending the majority of my pocket money in there - quite a large amount in the long run! I haven't bought myself anything from there in a while now, however I have spoiled my sister on many an occasion. One of the latest items I bought her is the Hell Kitty Sequin Bag. The Bear Factory have their own wide range of clothes and bears, but they also do a few 'designers'. ...I remember having my room decorated as a child - I had a pink carpet with teddy bears on it. My border was covered in pictures of teddy bears, and my mam even cut out the leftover carpet so I could have furry teddies stuck on my wall! I have always been a fan of teddies, in any form, and when the Bear Factory (now Build A Bear Workshop) opened up in the metrocentre, I was ecstatic! A few of my friends liked the store too and my neighbour, who is much younger than I, still does. When she bought a tshirt from the shop to dress her bear in for her holiday, she showed me straight away (yes, I still take interest in these things!).
