what uni did you go to?

Advantages: amazing reputation for teacher
Disadvantages: very hard to get on a PGCE- u gotta be good

...I'm not sure what university you've been to but it's not the Leeds Met that im at! I am in my third year of a Secondary PE teaching, (by the way Headingley campus is for sport and education) and it is fantastic. The course tutors are always in touch via e-mail or free so you can pop into their office. For the bloke that said lectures are cancelled re-sheduled etc, did you have extreme?? The facilities are unmatched- with the astro, track, tennis hall etc. The only downside is that the swimming pool is pretty poor and im a swimmer. I think the guy who said you need poor qualifications to apply should try getting on a PGCE course, you are expected to get a 2:1 or ablove along with coaching qualifications, teaching expereince and interview very well....not easy!! To be honest i dont know much about the campus in town but if you...

Great University

Advantages: Modern Facilities, Student Union is good, Lots of courses, it's in Manchester
Disadvantages: Disadvantages:* Some buildings need updating, the weather can be bad

...Last year I was on my Foundation Year at MMU I passed that and I'm now on a BSc Information Technology course. I live at home in Warrington and travel each day because it's only a 15 minute train journey. The University are always putting money in for improvements. A new law building that is also used for other courses has just been built and they've recently improved the computer facilities at the University to Pentium 4's with LCD monitors. The John Dalton Tower block is having £40 Million spent on it to modernise and extend it. At MMU just under 1000 courses are available for you to choose from, including courses with work placements in the third year which will give you that experience that employers are looking for these days. Foundation Year If you haven't got the qualifications that are required you can take this...

The Metropolitan nearly Neopolitan

Advantages: Modern, Clean, Spacious,Pleasant atmosphere. good food & entertainment
Disadvantages: Possibly an aquired taste

...~~ Metropolitan ~~ The other evening I had the good fortune to be offered a free meal at the Metropolitan in Stourbridge. They were hosting a Psychic Supper event, which comprised of a two course meal and a reading with one or more of the mediums present, this was all for £18.00 per person. Sadly I didn't get to have a reading as I was one of the mediums working for my supper. But everyone that goes gets at least one message. ~~ The Bar ~~ The bar area is very modern with wooden parquet flooring, aluminium chairs with wooden seats and a matching design with the tables, there are comfy leather sofa's and leather cube seats dotted around the perimeter. It is a very spacious room and has a clean up market feel about it with an ambience of Art Deco and minimalist, yet very modern. There is also an outside patio area just...

Whippin' Piccadilly

Advantages: Too many to count!
Disadvantages: Rainy weather, a few dodgy surrounding areas

...When the topic of which university we should attend came up at college, it crept up and took me completely by surprise. I knew I wanted to study a degree somewhere, but it was only when my then boyfriend starting applying left, right and centre for places that I realised I might need to put in a bit of groundwork. Being something of a genius, he applied to Cambridge and Oxford (where he was offered places), but as well as putting his brain to good use, he also wanted a bit of fun. Eventually he settled on Manchester University and, whilst I didn't want to do the English degree there, I found that I did want to do the course offered at Manchester Metropolitan University, which was very nearby. I also thought the people there would be a bit more fun. There's a time for work, but there's also a time for play and I was afraid I'd be...

Damn good uni

Advantages: good facilities
Disadvantages: ex poly

...It seems that a lot of people go to Leeds met because they didn't get into their first choice. I am one of those students. Everybody looks towards Leeds uni as being 'the' uni in Leeds and that the met is an ex polytechnic and many people don't look at it as a proper university but times are changing and this opinion is too. I am in my second year studying a languages degree and you know, i kind of glad i didn't get into the uni because after i compared the courses, with somebody who is studying at the uni, mine seems to be more more varied, practical and in tune with what future employers will want. Now I'm from Leeds originally so I can boast a little about what a great city Leeds is, how there are many individual shops as well as just about every high street shop you can think of. There are about a hundred bars and many clubs to...

Worcester University

Advantages: Accomodation, Student Union, Sports, Clubs, Library, IT, History
Disadvantages: Expense

...I've been here getting on for around a week now and I must say that I have had an excellent time so far. Before accepting the offer to go Worcester I travelled to it to investigate it and to see if it was for me. After travelling around some of the other universitys that I got into I came to the conclusion that this one was more for me conpared to any of the others. Size ********* I've found that its small which makes it quaint in my eyes and from my opinion however I find a city that is huge can be a little too big and can appear scary and overwhelming at times. Worcesters size is perfect offering up Night Clubs, Food, Shops and culture. The University was originally opened as an emergency teaching college until only recently in the last few years it has been granted the ability to become a university. This means it has being...

Metropolitan

Advantages: Great city atmosphere, metropolitan, cultural center
Disadvantages: A tad expensive

...Glasgow is a nice city. A city for students. A city built around a university, and not a university for a city. Voted the most happening place in the UK, and the most happening and best University in the region, has definitely pushed Glasgow Uni up several notches. Not to mention the fact that its degrees are recogniyed around the world. And the diverse multi-cultural people you get to meet on campus. It's good. On the bad side. Glasgow is often awash in beer, and partying, etc. If you love that stuff, then good for you, otherwise, it mostly irritates us students that actually study. It's a well-known cultural center in Europe too. Though a tad pricey, it's not as bad as London. No place is as bad in terms of cost than in London. If you go for the university accommodation, I think it's better if you go for private accom...

Best of Three

Advantages: They enrol people, not grades
Disadvantages: Some campuses are a bit spread out.

...I am now nearing the end of second year of study at Manchester Metropolitan University, affectionately known as ManMet or MMU. My course is Consumer Marketing and I’m reading for a Degree. Initially I never wanted to go to university. All the way through high school I wanted to be a chef and chose to do NVQs relevant to this field instead of sitting A-Levels. So the time came when I left college with my NVQs and had to get a job. This I did. I worked hard for about a year and half until I was a walking zombie. My job had driven me down into the ground. I had a fantastic career set in front of me, working in a restaurant belonging to a certain famous TV chef but unless you have the passion to be a chef you can’t do it. At 19 years old I had a mid-life crisis and on the advice of my boyfriend I contacted ManMet Uni...

Hollings Campus Main

Advantages: Good Union, Great Area, Nice People
Disadvantages: Crime and Violence, Buildings, Location

...I am currently studying at the Manchester Metropolitan University at the Hollings campus in Fallowfield studying Events Management. On the course elsewhere. I have enjoyed my first year at the Met, the let downs of the hollings campus is the lack of lifts in a seven floor building, the temperature always seems to be intensly hot or extremely cold, this is probably due to it being based in the toastrack building which is old and registered meaning not much can be done to it. The campus houses Hospitality, and Tourism Management Courses, Food Technology, and Fashion mainly, oddly there is also science courses housed in this building. You are likely to see many females wearing ankle warmers thick tights and a bikini top trying to be fashionable! :o) It's nice going down the main corridor to smell freshly baked cake! Which leads me...

A 5 Star Hotel for a 5 Star Anniversary

Advantages: Unbelievably luxurious
Disadvantages: Probably won't be able to tolerate a 2 star hotel again

... Background On the 31st August 2009, my wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary which is no mean feat. In celebration of this milestone I decided to take the lovely Mrs L away to London for a short, luxurious break in one of London's classiest hotels. Being short on cash I looked around for what was available with my Airmiles fund and with the aid of my six and eight year old sons we decided Mrs L would probably like the Metropolitan. Overview & Appearance Nestled next to the concrete monstrosity that is the Hilton on Park Lane and overlooking Hyde Park is a much smaller (only ten floors!) building containing both trendy nightspot the Met Bar and the Michelin-starred Nobu restaurant in addition to 153 guest rooms and suites. Although rather simple looking from the outside, upon entering through the rotating...
