...My colleague and I wanted to have a nice lunch to celebrate the end of a project. As we are conveniently based near Covent Garden, we had a wealth of choices, but Mexican food appealed to both of us, so we ended up in Cafe Pacifico. Although it is down a small road and isn't particularly visible to the majority of people shopping in Covent Garden, it certainly attracts a lot of people and I wasn't all that surprised to hear that it has been in business since 1982. It certainly deserves a good reputation; the food was fabulous and the margaritas were perfect. We only meant to have one, but ended up having three each! Advantages: Gandolfini's Character
Disadvantages: It really isn't that funny

...Contrary to popular belief, The Mexican is primarily concerned with the relationship between Julia Roberts and James Gandolfini. The Pitt/Roberts relationship is not the sole focus here, as the two spend the majority of the film apart. The Mexican and The Apathy

Advantages: still thinking...
Disadvantages: most things, acting was OK

...Admittedly, when I went to see this film I was not in the best of moods. I had a headache, my eyes were killing me, and my neck needed all the support it could get, not sure why. Any doctors/nurses/etc. with any ideas please say! So, Brad Pitt (surely an incentive for the girls to go) and Julia Roberts (an incentive for some men too) in a film together. Not many of these about, must be good. Well, no. I am still in a bad mood so I’ll try and slag this film off to the extent that I felt as I realised I had wasted my money. ...You would think that by teaming Brad Pitt up with Julia Roberts in this movie, that the producers would have an instant winning combination. These two combined ought to have neough charisma to sink a battleship and yet somehow even they can not save this movie from, at best, mediocrity. The Mexican simply isn't a very good movie. Admittedly its difficult for these two stars to gel together and save the movie when they actually only spend about 25 minutes of the screentime even in the same country let alone in the same scene. When they are together it sizzles, so there is a note to be made there for future movies - they ought to be damn good. Food for thought

...What! Only 10 foods? Of all the MILLIONS/ BILLIONS of food products out there we can only pick 10? Well, I suppose you'd get bored by my 100th or so one..or tenth... In no particular order; let's begin 1. Fish -Smoked Haddock, Salmon, Cod, sea bass or tuna. Haddock is delcious in a pitta bread with scrambled egg or haselback potatoes. Salmon fillet is divine if you top it with mayo, crushed seasoned cornflakes with garlic and then drizzled with a cheese sauce. Smoked salmon slices mixed into mash with cheese spread! emm. And tuna, mix it with onion and some chutney to get fish fruity. Make your own fish pie or chop it up into an omelete. Fish is sooo nutritional, versatile and delcious. Not a fan of sardines, herring; trout and the lark, or with heads and eyes still on! Prawns - league of there own. Nice just out the pack...

Mexican food that Mexicans would eat!

...I am a big big fan of Mexican food and having had it in Mexico and Southern California/Arizona where it is very authentic and great tasting I was a bit skeptical about Meican food from a box but I was pleasantly surprised and am now definitely a fan of these fajitas. Fajitas are basically flour tortillas that you can wrap around meat/vegetables/sauce etc. These packs include eight flour tortillas/spice mix and mild original salsa. The only downside with these is that you do have to provide your own meat/chicken etc and all the vegetables that go inside but it still does make for a really quick, easy dinner. They now come in a variety of flavours such as smoky barbeque flavour and tomato and pepper. The nice thing with Old El Paso as well is that they do a great range of Mexican dinner accompaniments such as guacamole, refried beans...

Vacuum sealing food the easy way

...I love my gadgets and I am a complete sucker for the TV shopping channels so when I saw that JML had got their own channel I couldn't resist watching it one wet afternoon recently. They were doing a demonstration of the JML Vacuum Food Sealer and I was intrigued as I sat and watched. Basically it is a very simple machine which will either vacuum seal food into polythene bags or just seal (without vacuum). It looked pretty simple and effective and they were demonstrating a range of uses for it. Given that I cook a lot of meals for one and often 'batch cook' and weekends and make my own home made ready meals for one which I freeze down this looked like quite a useful machine.
