Mamma Mia!

Advantages: garunteed feel good film

...After going to see this film at the cinema twice I decided that I wanted it for christmas on dvd so I was over the moon when I got it. It is about a girl (Amanda Seyfried) who is getting married. She has never really known who her father is and after discovering her Mum's old diary invites three possible fathers to her wedding, without her mum (Meryl Streep) knowing. Her mum soon finds out though and it then follows the tale of her trying to find out which of the three is her father. What I like about the film Mamma Mia is that it is fun packed full of singing and dancing and the cast are fantastic and there seems to be really good chemistry between them. Julie Walters is quite funny in it and Meryl Streep is quite good with the singing and all the cast play their roles really well. The only downside has to be Pierce Brosnan...

Advantages: Absolutely amazing

...Mamma mia is by far my favourite movie of the summer this year! Based upon the songs of ABBA it is one of those films which can be enjoyed by a wide span of ages. My mother loves it, i love it despite the fact i never really grew up with the songs and even the 7 year old i nanny for cant stop watching it! I watched the stage show when i was younger and never really enjoyed it so the movie was a surprising love of mine! It tells the story of a 20 year old girl called Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried (think Mean Girls). Sophie is engaged to Sky played by Dominic Cooper. The one problem is that Sophie wants to find her father before she gets married, so upon discovery of her mother's diary she sends out three letters to three possible fathers asking them to attend her wedding. MAMMA MIA! TAKE A CHANCE ON ME!

Advantages: A film that is suitable for young and old alike, that everyone can sing along to!
Disadvantages: The main plot device may need a bit of explaining to younger children.

I was lucky enough to see this musical on Broadway in New York, soon after it opened and really enjoyed it. A WORD OF WARNING - the film is rated PG with a warning for special care for children under five and I found this warning needed to be observed. Advantages: funny, ful of energy and the great timeless ABBA songs

...Mamma Mia! Finally I've seen the film and afterwards I was jumping with energy the movie boasted me with, so I couldn't not start writing this review. I can't tell about elsewhere, but here in Prague Mamma Mia! has become a symbol of this summer, full of fun, dancing and singing, love, sun, friends, joy and happy ends. Mamma Mia - An Alternative Review

Advantages: Funny, Entertaining
Disadvantages: Probably not for your typical bloke

...I watched this film last night. This film is not based on the life story of Abba in anyway. The film has been created around Abba's music, and the storyline is designed to have their songs drop in at 'relevant moments' in the plot (clever marketing ???). If you are expecting a musical film with a polished performance to the standard of Evita you will be disapointed, most of the central caste in Mamma Mia are normally actors not singers or dancers. There is definite commical value in this film, the directors have thrown the best actors and scenery that money can buy to create a beautiful movie set in a Greek Island, unfortunately none of the actors (in my opinion) can sing that well, which makes the impromptu song and dance routines in this movie hilarious, and it is an opportunity for you to see some of your favourite actors...

...When I saw Mamma Mia! advertising on the television a couple of weeks back , I instantly knew it was going to be a film I loved. I went to see the film a few days after it's release at my local cineworld. I was glad I hadn't chosen to go on the day of it's release , as my cousin who had gone to see it a day after it's release said that there were so many people wanting to see it that they couldn't let everyone in. I had planned on going to see this film , however usually when I want to see a film I think 'yeah I'll go and see that' however I never actually get round to it , and wait until it comes out on DVD . Although this time I was determined that I was going to go and see the film , even more so when my cousin told me it was fantastic. So there we were in my local Cineworld. Advantages: Feel-good fun, sure to be enjoyed by teenagers, twenty-somethings and even grand-parents!
Disadvantages: Brosnan's singing? Actually it's an amusing highlight!

...I've never been a fan of musicals or so-called 'chick-flicks' but my girlfriend dragged me to the cinema to watch this one, and it was without a doubt one of the best films I saw in 2008 - the DVD does not disappoint either! A raft of extras once you've been bitten by the Mama Mia bug include interviews with the cast, some amusing outtakes and some fascinating insights into how the film was made (the entire set was constructed in London where most of the filming took place although you'd be mistaken for thinking the entire thing had been filmed in a beautiful historic Greek village). The film itself is a feel-good story of a young girl - Sophie- and her attempts to locate her father. Advantages: A brilliant summer happy feel movie thats great fun.
Disadvantages: Can seem chaotic

...I wasn't sure what to expect from this film usually when there is a lot of hype over a film you find yourself disappointed but this was certainly not the case with Mamma Mia. Meryl Streep was brilliant in this although she can not pass for a trained singer it didn't matter. It just really worked in the movie as she was meant to be acting the part of a mother who everyone felt sorry for stuck in a hotel that was falling apart with things not going quite right for her, I just think the non perfect singing fitted her character well. Plus the singing from the potential fathers of Sophie will certainly give you a giggle.
