Microsoft Windows Millenium Edition
Review of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition - complete package by  danbishop123

Advantages: Looks great and has a few nice new features
Disadvantages: HIGHLY UNSTABLE!

...not and if you wish to use DOS apps or use DOS its self then good luck to you! A good point of Windows ME however its that it will run on lower spec machines, Microsoft say that the minimum spec is Min Pentium-class 166Mhz with 32Mb of memory and 1Gb free space. My friend however has Win ME running on a 133Mhz 486 as a server. Windows ME does make it easy to network computers as it has the Networking Wizard built in, however I believe Windows 98 Second Edition has this too, though i maybe incorrect. Windows ME is the first Microsoft OS to feature 'Microsoft System Restore' however this program, in my experience, is useless I have tried to use it about 7 times on both Win XP and Win ME and it has never fixed a problem and on Win ME it only ever once successfully restored, i usually got a message saying that the system could not be restored... Don't Use Windows Millennium Edition
Review of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition - complete package by  QuantumKev

Advantages: Compatible with most games and programs
Disadvantages: Unstable and full of errors

...I was one of the unlucky people to have purchased my PC from PC World with Microsoft Windows ME Millennium Edition. At the time I was unaware of the possible problems that would occur from it due to my lack of knowledge about computer operating systems. History of Windows ME Millennium Microsoft designed this operating system between the release of Windows 98 and Windows 2000. It has adopted many features of the two operating systems combined and has the functionality and feel of Windows 98 combined with the glossy look and graphics of Windows 2000. Although this may be good in theory in reality it is a problem waiting to happen. Why Create ME? Simple! MONEY! Microsoft are in the business for money which is why the introduce technology now that they developed many years ago. Doing things gradually makes more profit for them... Read review

Microsoft Windows Millennium
Review of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition - complete package by  crowbar2000

Advantages: Many new features
Disadvantages: From Microsoft!

...The end is nigh. According to Microsoft this will be the final version in the long running Windows 9x series. Windows Millennium is aimed towards the consumer operating systems market, with the focus being towards the more fun and exciting aspects of computing, such as music, video and cutting edge gaming support. There has been a whole host of enhancements and improvements over Windows 98, with Millennium being more stable and much better equipped to fix problems if they occur. One of the biggest enhancements over Windows 98 is the media player, which now supports more of the internet media standards, such as video and radio streaming. These seem to work very well, especially the radio broadcasting which was very listenable even on an old 28.8 modem! Media player has been split into several sections, dealing with the different media... Read review

Upgrading from Windows ME to XP Home
Review of Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade package by  mwl1

Advantages: stable o/s, easy to upgrade
Disadvantages: possible long download times to update if you have a slow Internet connection

...INTRODUCTION My aged parents decided that they wanted to become part of the “wired world” and hence about 15 months ago bought themselves a PC in order to send and receive Emails from family and friends and to browse the World Wide Web. For some reason best known to them they opted to take advice from a well-known high street department store and subsequently found themselves with an HP laptop running Windows ME (Millennium Edition). Over the months they have had numerous problems with the hardware and software, resulting in many house calls and ultimately in the complete replacement of the laptop. Once the hardware issues were resolved the instabilities inherent in Windows ME became more apparent (most noticeably the blue ‘stop error’ screen, followed by having to reboot). This was a common problem, often occurring once or more... Read review

Only Window Dressing
Review of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition - complete package by  SkyscraperFanClub

Advantages: The alternatives to Windows are too impractical; Start-up and shut-down times improved on ME.
Disadvantages: Unstable, frequent crashes, useless multimedia software and add-ons, system utilities still poor.

...is generally either useless or, like Media Player 7 and Internet Explorer 5.1, can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet. Perhaps realising that Windows ME is a worthless upgrade for Windows 98 users, Microsoft are selling a Windows 98-only upgrade for £42.99 (www.reserve.co.uk). I strongly advise against taking them up on this offer - it is a complete waste of money. Upgrades from other versions of Windows cost £74.99 and are worthwhile for the greater Plug-And-Play and USB support that came with Windows 98. Windows Millennium Edition is hardly the operating system for the 21st century that Microsoft would have us believe. It is volatile, unreliable and offers little real improvement over previous versions.... Read review

The erauqS Window
Review of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition - complete package by  jimbuck

Advantages: It works well
Disadvantages: Not found any yet

...After some ten years of using an Amiga computer for every possible purpose I eventually had to join the 21st century as the Amiga just could no longer compete with the faster racier PC models that dominate the computer world. Not that there was anything wrong with the Amiga as I could surf the web and hold my own on the ’net. After all what is the point of having a machine with a CPU rated in Ghz for Internet use when the modem is only a 56K device. But the Amiga was showing its age and it was the software that was not keeping pace with advancing web site technology rather than the computer. So with much regret I bought myself a PC just before Xmas 2000. Having heard all sorts of bad tales about the Microsoft Operating System, Windows, and how unstable it was and the problems people had with it, I decided that instead of buying... Read review

Windows 98 Stupid Edition
Review of Microsoft Windows 98 - complete package by  real_rob_writer

Advantages: Um.....Compaitibility
Disadvantages: Most of it

...Windows ME may be out and most people will get this rather 98 SE, but I still have 98 SE and I need a place to moan about it, there are just too many faults. Windows 98 was the successor to Windows 95. It didn't change much, just a few new bits here and there, the usual claims of better performance and stability and new versions of programs. It was so crap that Microsoft had to release Windows 98 Second Edition, which fixed all of the bugs and security issues of the first release. That's a great start surely, but wait - it doesn't end there! To fix a few more problems a fresh install of Windows 98SE requires a trip over to Windows Update to download yet more 'Critical Updates', the likes of which left unchecked may let people gain control of your PC over the internet. Nice to know your PC's safe then!! But then on the other hand... Read review

Windows ME not much more than a broken 98
Review of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition - complete package by  SmurfTheWeb

Advantages: It's new. Faster loading times.
Disadvantages: Not much support for it. Buggy

...What can i say? This operating system, the latest in a long line of microsoft products, is less than spectacular. Windows ME (Millennium Edition) was hyped upo by the press and by Microsoft to be the only choice for an operating system. But the many glitches, bugs and problems drag this product back to the dark ages. One most notible problem is it's "superiority". It is regarded so highly, that Microsoft have removed DOS from their system. This means many popular games are unplayable, and some disk facilities are unavailable. Also, to run these games dual booting of any Windows OS and ME is required, taking up valuble space and resources. This system is also very minimally supported. Drivers are not configured to use ME and it's advanced functions, rendering many hardware cards and some software outdated and unusable... Read review

BALLS Or not as the case may be
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  PeterFarrell

Advantages: No ball so clean, responsive, fast, precise, extra buttons that can be assigned different tasks.
Disadvantages: Restricted by a wire!

...minutes and it might work for about five after its rest! So yet another trip to PC World, my fifth for to get one mouse that works!!! Now onto the actual topic and subject in question, how I came to own a Microsoft IntelliMouse. Well the people on the Customer Service desk in PC World took one look at it after I told them my story of trying to buy a working mouse and told me I could have a refund or exchange it for a new mouse. I decided to take a look at their choice of mice in the hope of exchanging it. Their shelves were full, a whole aisle dedicated to these pointing and navigating devices. The display was well laid out with the most basic mouse on the left and working along to the most expensive and most up to date and technologically advanced mice. I took one look at the first mouse. An instant no, it was not equipped... Read review
