...Background: I seem to have grown up with Michael J. Fox. He is someone I can remember enjoying his acting back in my teens. In truth I am not a fan of autobiographies as a rule, I tend to prefer maybe unfairly that writers write books and Personalities who ever they are do what they are successful for. In this case though I decided to make an exception and give his book a go. About Michael J Fox He was born in Edmonton in June 1961. His father was a military man so he grew up on various Army bases with his brother and sisters. His original ambition was to be in a rock group but his talent for acting soon became his love as he reached the age of consent. Michael J. Fox At His Most Charming and Engaging

Advantages: one of Michael J. Fox's most enjoyable movies
Disadvantages: dated to a point, very 1980s in flavor

...A somewhat forgotten film today, THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS is an entertaining, enjoyable satire of business life in the corporate jungle of NYC. Produced and Directed by Herbert Ross (THE GOODBYE GIRL, STEEL MAGNOLIAS), this film stars Michael J. Fox as Brantley Foster, a 24-year-old naive college graduate who goes to NYC to make it big as an executive. When he arrives in the Big Apple from Kansas, his misadventures consist of trying to make a good impression on executives at interviews. The simplicity of the plot is squandered by many different elements, which I will list in this review. Released in 1987, the film admittedly has 1980s written all over it....in everything from the hair to the music. Back to the future?

Advantages: Witty, originally written, emotive.
Disadvantages: Some inevitable name-dropping

..."Lucky Man" is for me the rarest of things, an engaging autobiography. Perhaps it is my eighties rose-tinted spectacles but I have always found Michael J.Fox to be an exciting, versatile actor be it as Marty Mc Fly in the ridiculously successful "Back to the Future trilogy" or Erikson in the war epic "Casualties of War". However, being a fan would not usually be enough on its own to persuade me to read anyone's autobiography. I have to admit the chance to read more about his well-publicised battle with Parkinson's disease. Am I morbid for having an interest in degenerative disease? Probably. Nonetheless, I was intrigued by how a Hollywood actor who had it all would deal with this most unpredictable of conditions. "Lucky Man" is refreshing in a genre were celebrity autobiographies are often co-written by a more literary "ghost writer...

he's come a long way since teen wolf.

Advantages: Finally, a memoir with a real story to tell!
Disadvantages: it had to end.

...Michael J. Fox is one of my all-time favourite people, a real idol of mine. I was an 80s kid, but I wasn't actually born when the first Back To The Future movie hit cinemas. Thank the lord for the BBC (and recently, the Sci-Fi channel!) and the wonder that is DVD. There's something about this Canadian-born actor that I love. A really endearing quality. I can watch the BTTF trilogy over and over again, I cried when he left Spin City, and I grew up as his career sky-rocketed. Now he's retired from showbiz and working for a worthy cause, devoting his life to making sure people in the future won't have to go through what he has. I hope one day that I'll be able to have the strength, compassion and strong will to be like him. Lucky Man is his amazing memoir, which touches on his career but mainly details his demise into a world of alcohol...

An Inspirationally Lucky Man!

...I have finally finished the Michael J Fox biography that I started a few weeks ago, and I have been toying with the idea of reviewing it. On one hand, its a wonderful story, heart-felt and true. But on the other hand, I know that no matter how much time and effort I put into writing this review, it will never be enough. No matter how much of my heart and soul I put into this piece, I will never do Michael J. Fox or his biography justice. However, if even one person goes and reads this story, it will be worth it. He is an inspiration, a truely Lucky Man! 'Lucky Man' sounds like a very strange title. How could it be lucky to be struck down with Parkinsons Disease at the tender age of thirty? How can it possibly be constued as lucky to suffer the debilitating symptoms of Parkinsons Disease when you have a young family. Whats so...

Advantages: Great insight into a major 80s and 90s star's life

...I remember hearing back in 1998 that Michael J Fox had announced to the world that he was, and had been suffering with Parkinson's disease for many years. Michael J Fox is the star of American TV sitcom Family Ties, but will probably be more recognisable to a UK audience as Marty McFly from the Back To The Future films, or Mike Flaherty from Spin City. This book is part autobiography, part telling of his battle with the neurological disease that he has been privately battling with. I picked this book up in the store because I really have liked the work Fox has done in his movie and TV roles, and really just wanted to know more about who he was. The book itself is just over 300 pages long, and I finished it within two days. I found that I couldn't put it down, because Fox draws you into his world with such passion, that you feel...
