* Hey, You look like the Michelin Man! . .
Advantages: Very good grip in all weather, especially in the wet.
Disadvantages: The cost and fact that they wear faster.
...Two French brothers called Edouard and Andre Michelin, owned a rubber factory. One day, a cyclist with a punctured pneumatic tyre arrived at their factory. This tyre was glued to the rim, and It took over 3 hours to remove it and repair the tyre, which then had to be left overnight to dry. The next day, they took the repaired bicycle into the yard for testing. After several hundred Meters, the repair failed. Despite this setback, they were still enthusiastic about this pneumatic tyre, and proceeded to made their, own, which didn't need glueing onto the rim.
In 1891, they took out the first patent for a removable pneumatic tyre. The rest as they say, is history.
I was lucky enough to buy a car with these fitted, and I can say the amount of grip is brilliant. They do cost more than most tyres, and the noise is slightly louder, but...

Michelin Paylot for poor quality
Advantages: Cheap and excellent grip when new
Disadvantages: Grip isn't as good when the tyres are older
...I bough a new Clio over a year ago and the Micheling Energy tyres that were on it were just about dead, so after a few reccomendations I decided to get some Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 tyres fitted to it.
They were only £60 a tyre fitted (195/50/15) was very happy with the price.
At first summer) the tyres were absolutely fantastic, had bags full of grip and when they did let go you could feel it slowly and control it.
As winter approached late last year the grip of the tyres didn't feel as good as it used to, even on warm days it wasn't the same, it felt like as the tyres were getting older the compound in them was degrading, and they weren't as good.
Up untill that point I would definately have bought them again, but wouldn't now.
When I had the tyres put on the car it had done 42k and when I sold the car with 62k on (11...

They are black, round, and go on the ground!
Advantages: grip, wear pattern, confidence
Disadvantages: Wear rate, but I'll update on this when they have seen more action
...Michelin Pilot Road 2.
These tyres are advertised as being the best of both worlds because they are a duel compound construction. The centre band of the tyre is a harder compound and is designed to give a much longer life than normal tyres, whilst the shoulders of the tyres are a softer compound to give better grip on corners and when the road is slippery.
I had the tyres fitted to my bike on 22/02/07 [just over 3 months ago] and to date I have covered some 2013 miles with them. The majority of this usage has been on straight line motorway and fast A road riding.
With previous tyres I have quickly noticed a squaring off of my tyres something that makes dropping over into corners a trifle unnerving especially when the road is wet.
With the Michelin Pilot Road 2 I have noticed none of this and the squaring appears to be much...

Michelin Tyres
Advantages: Well known brand
Disadvantages: Go out of shape.
...trips to the dealer to find the cause, we were advised by a friend in the trade that Michelin are notorious for going out of shape. They wear unevenly and become unbalanced.
Aparently its the heat that does the damage. You would not expect that on our roads.
What they do give is excellent grip in the dry. I did not like them in the Wet and had an accident in my Fiesta that had Michelins on it. Much prefer Pirelli for the wet conditions.
The good points with michelin is that they are hard compund tyres. They will last and last you, if you can handle the ride quality.
They do have a wide range of tyres. Not limited to the common sizes but at the same time dont cater for the larger low profile customers. These are left to specialist manufacturers.
The ranges cater for different customers.
Pilot is the most common range. You...

Pilot Exalto - The Duracell of performance tyres.
Advantages: Excellent wet performance, Good cornering, Not too noisy, Fantastic wear resistance
Disadvantages: Poor initial traction, take 500 - 600 miles to wear in
...When my OEM-fit Bridgeston Potenza RE040s finally made it down to the tread-wear indicator I had them replaced with a pair of the new Michelin Pilot Exaltos.
In a 205-45/17 fitting these are fairly intimidating beasties. None of your swoopy curves and slashes that look all sexy. Oh no. These purposeful hunks of rubber have three MASSIVE channels running around the tyre combined with some fairly agressive lugs (sipes?) around the outside edge.
The mention of an outside edge indicates that these are directional tyres but maybe not in the strictest sense. The Bridgestones had an arrow indicating the direction of rotation the tyres should be mounted in, which ultimately meant that you could only swap the tyres along the same side of the car. The Pilot Exaltos, on the other hand, have an outside and an inside edge. Obviously you will...

Michelin Energys
Advantages: Long lasting, brilliant grip
Disadvantages: None!
...Michelin Energy
A tyre designed to reduce running costs and respects the environment with these tyres on your car is said to use less fuel and last longer than other brands.
On a wet road they help make a shorter stopping distance making them a super safe tyre to have on your car.
These tyres are designed for, city cars, MPV and family cars.
These come as standard on my model of car so have been using this the 2 and a half years I have had it, I have found them to be a brilliant tyre, very long lasting and keeping grip right un-till the end of their lifespan. They also wear evenly so if you buy a set as long as none become damaged they should all be ready for being replaced at around the same time. They are not at all road noisy and do not pull the car around at all. They are very good in the wet maybe no as good as they are...

Great confidence inspiring rubber you can trust
Advantages: Look ok, not to expensive, good feel and turning.
Disadvantages: Might not be great for really fast riders.
...First off I know how much stick Michelin have had over their performance the MotoGP! I am glad to report that I have not had such poor results from my Michelin Pilot Road tyres fitted to my trusty Yamaha FZS600 Fazer. I had these rubber boots fitted in replacement for the recommended Bridgestones that the bike was fitted with from new. I didn't really like the feel of the earlier tyres with the turn in quite sharp and at lean I didn't feel quite at ease on them. So I asked around and was told that the Michelin's should suit the way I ride with a nice gently turn into the corners and good even grip across the profile no matter what sort of angle. I have to say I haven't been dissapointed with them so far.
So far I have covered about 2,000 miles on a set of these rubbers and they show only the slightest signs of wear on the rear as...

A little help from the Michelin Man
Advantages: Quick, up to date, free, useful
Disadvantages: Som countries not completely covered
...Essentially this is a site run by the well known tyre people, Michelin to help you with various aspects of road travel throughout the whole of Europe.
The home page is fairly clearly laid out, with the obvious sections easy to identify - Driving Directions, Maps, Traffic, Weather and The Michelin Guides.
Driving Directions - If you are planning a trip, no matter what the distance, with this option you can get a plan of which roads to take. Simply enter a road, or town / area, and the same for your destination, click ok and in a few seconds it creates a route plan for you. The summary will tell you the distance and travel time. You can select km or miles. You can enter the price per litre for fuel, and your average fuel consumption, and it will work out an approximate cost for the journey too, plus take into account any toll roads...

* Michelin man sat nav is - very good. . .
Advantages: Simple operation. Price.
Disadvantages: None found.
...ViaMichelin Navigation X-960 New Edition - Good time to buy.
I recently had a scare, when my trusty TomTom threw a wobbler, and I thought I would need to replace it, I had chance to look around, and remember looking at this particular model, mainly because it looked like my TomTom, I assume it was a copy. I am not saying this is a bad thing, let someone else decide what the customer wants and then provide just that.again, I am pleased to say my TomTom is in working order so I do not need to replace it, if and when I do however, I may well go for this model. At less than £90 it has to be a bargain. This is the cheapest price I could find brand new, so you could get a real good second hand bargain.
The basic idea is the same as most of these gizmos, there is a touchscreen, a mains or car charger, a USB lead for connecting to a PC...

The Magic of Pilot FriXion
Advantages: A pen that you can erase
Disadvantages: None
...The Pen
The Pen is brightly coloured and the same colour as the ink and has a silver tattoo design, with remove by friction written on it. On the end of the pen a silver rubber bit, which is what removes the ink by friction-generated heat. The lid matches the pen and has pilot and frixon ball written in silver. The pen comes in a variety of colours, eight in all.
My Opinion
I love doing puzzles and I am always on the lookout for a pen that would help me that. I saw this pen in WH Smiths one day and thought that?s a good idea but I wonder if it works. So I went to the till pen in hand and purchased it, once I got it home I opened the packet and gave it a little test. So I got a scrap of paper and did a little scribble, I then turned the pain over and as instructed I rubbed the silver end over the pen and was amazed at what I...
