Value Divx/DVD player
Review of Mico DVD808 by wopdiddly

Advantages: Divx Player, cheap, stylish
Disadvantages: No firmware upgrades

...I recently purchased the Mico 808D DVD player from Sainsburys for the bargain price of £39.99. Granted when it comes to cheap DVD players there are cheaper out there. However they usually don't play Divx movies. For those not in the know, a Divx film is one that can easily be downloaded using a Peer to Peer file sharing tool such as Kazaa. You can download and watch films before they even reach the cinema and they are mostly DVD quality. However you do not need a DVD writer as the file size of a Divx movie is just the right size to fit on a CD. This is why you need a DivX DVD player to play them as they are essentially Avi/MPG files on CD. The Mico 808D is a silver, slimline and has a mirror finished front and really looks the part. When you open the CD drawer you can instantly tell that it is not a top of the range DVD player however... Read review

best DVD player you can buy
Review of Mico A980 by annette_tr9

Advantages: plays all formats including MP3 & CDR and plays RCE discs
Disadvantages: gold in colour

...About time I wrote this opinion again now that I really know what I am talking about. Right, if you are buying a DVD player you will obviously need it to be multi-region. American DVD's are much cheaper than UK ones. You will also need your DVD player to play VCD's, CDR's, CDRW's and MP3 discs. The Mico A980 plays all of these. I have recommended this player to several friends who have bought one and been very pleased with it. This player also has the added bonus of having disabled macrovision and the ability to play RCE discs. All this for the bargain price of £180. There aren't a great deal of places that sell this player, I know unbeatable do. So is there anything wrong with this player? Well, yes, it's gold. Awful colour, doesn't match anything else we have. Also the remote control can be a little confusing to begin... Read review

A little gem with a little price tag
Review of Mico A980 by pitviper

Advantages: Plays multi-region DVD and MP3 CDs, cheap.
Disadvantages: Badly designed remote.

...you lose your remote. On the subject of the remote, it's not very well designed, with some buttons in rather bizarre places, but if, like me, you've got a living room full of electronics, you'll probably have a nice multi-function remote too! If you want to watch DVDs from other regions, as well as VCDs that you, erm, purchased legally(?), then you can't really go wrong with this in my book. Yes there are better DVD players, but since you're probably used to the quality of normal TV broadcasts and VHS, you won't be complaining about the Mico... Read review

M-105
Review of Samsung - DVD's by code_kev

Advantages: cheap as chips :D
Disadvantages: a bit too cheap

...What can 100 pounds get you in dvd terms? Not much unless you want some brandless pile of rubbish. Do YOU want a mico or whatever dvd player? No, thought not! I got my m 105 new for £100 about a year ago, and even now, I am happy with my purchase. The actual unit is moderatly stylish, a bit plasticy on the buttons, but silver is quite a nice colour in my opinions (which this is hehe). The remote contole is a bit average, it looks good but the buttons are a pain in the a**e to use really. The are not well placed in my opinion. The unit is easy to use, everything is simply laid out for you, but I found the menus to be clunky and silly at times. It has all the functions of most dvd players, zoom, slow motion, rgb out put etc. I'll say this now, as wiht most dvd players, watch it through some decent cables and your in heaven, hook it up... Good site if you are patient
Review of techtronics.com by annette_tr9

Advantages: od quality goods and easy to understand technical advise
Disadvantages: no phone number, nobody answers helplines and slow delivery

...I have just used this website in the last couple of months to buy myself two new DVD players after my trusty (or not so!) Mico broke. (If you really need to know why I needed two, one for the living room and one for the bedroom!). I had different experiences with the site for both purchases. The first player was great. Ordered and received it within two weeks. It worked fine, no problems. The second player was different. After waiting for two weeks with no sign of player I e-mailed Techtronics who then told me that it was out of stock and they weren’t having any more in. Nice of them to tell me. So I chose another player, well, it was actually the same player but a different colour. Two more weeks, e-mailed again and was told that it would be sent out. A few days later I still hadn’t received it so I went... Read review

Amazing Dual Layer Multi-Format DVD Recorder
Review of NEC DVD ND3500A by thevicar

Advantages: Extremely fast, Dual Layer, multi formats
Disadvantages: Needs firmware upgrade for some DL discs

.... I tried a Philips DVD+R DL and had no problems. The latest version of Ahead Nero Burning ROM 6.6.0.1 records to DL discs with no problem. After some searching, I found that the NEC is rebadged for TDK and I flashed my drive with this firmware (2.78), and then the Datawrite DL discs worked OK. Please note that this invalidates your warranty but until NEC release firmware that supports Ritek based discs, it was the only way around it for me. The DL discs give excellent results, but the cost is high at the moment for blank media. As mentioned, Nero was used to burn the discs, it recognises the double capacity and burns the first then second layer on its own. Nothing difficult here, same as burning an ordinary single layer disc. Both the Datawrite and Philips DVD+R DL discs played okay in my PC and standalone players (MiCO Sofia, MiCO espejo... A dream of a machine
Review of Mico DYN 3000 by HeyWhat

Advantages: Compact and plays everything at an excellent price
Disadvantages: This machine has no disadvantages that I can see

...sorted out and the machine will infact play what is stated on the box. Connection to the TV was a breeze via the scart lead ( not included ). Other connections included S Video, Component Connection and a selection of other sockets which left me settling on the scart lead as by now I was somewhat confused. This could have been rectified by reading the easy to follow manual that came in the box. The remote has a comprehensive range of controls which you would expect from a far more expensive machine and the bonus of being multi region is something that should not be forgotten when purchasing a new DVD player. Had this not been the last one in the shop I would have grabbed another one for the kids bedroom or to possibly replace the rather expensive Sony player I have in my living room that plays next too nothing. The shop that sold me... Read review

ALBA DVD Player 73.
Review of Alba DVD 73 by martin92

Advantages: Simple & Straight Forward. Easy operation.
Disadvantages: Picture Quality

...ALBA DVD Player 73. This is a simple, straight forward DVD player. It will play all DVD's and music cd's. The image it produces shouldn't be expected by the buyer to be excellent, however, it is viewable and understandable. The DVD player doesn't effect the movies sound quality and doesn't have as many features on as other more expensive DVD players however, it does it's job. A DVD player is for playing DVD's and watching movies on your television. Although it has the ability to play a cd, a DVD player is not a cd player and the buyer should not expect any DVD players to play a cd. It's in the name what it plays. It is small and light weight making it easier to be carried and moved around. Connections include 1X Scart and the coloured wired cables plug in. Instructions included.... Read review
