Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000 struggles to be a Live cam

Advantages: Good picture quality
Disadvantages: No end of trouble with Windows Live Messenger

We have never had any preference to a particular make meaning we have tried 3Com, Creative and Logitech in the past. Now it was Microsoft's turn in the form of the Lifecam VX-3000. This camera was supposedly a middle of the range camera at its time of release, higher in spec than the VX-1000, but lower than the VX-6000. ...I recently decided to upgrade my aging Pace webcam and after looking at various models of new super dooper cams I plumped for the Microsoft Lifecam VX3000. Microsoft seem to dominate the world with products nowadays, however it is a name you can trust and generally you get a good quality product. This was true when I received the unit, it had a quality feel to it. Microsoft have various incarnations of their webcams ranging from the entry level VX1000 to the highly specced and highly priced VX6000, whilst I suppose you pay for what you get, i was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the images from the unit. After the installation of the drivers from the enclosed CD, it's a straight foward process, just plugging into a spare USB socket and windows recognises the device and loads the drivers for it. Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000

Advantages: Works on Vista, Good clarity
Disadvantages: Driver disc supplied wont run under Vista

...My only piece of non Dell PC kit. This webcam is excellent for the price, good picture quality and the built in Mic is responsive. Brilliant for all Instant messengers and VOIP. It is also nice to have a black webcam. I know that sounds silly but most PC's these days have black on them some where so it helps towards unity. The only minor issue with this product is that the supplied Driver disc wont install on Windows Vista. Instead you are directed to a download link where you can download the appropriate driver. I found this odd as it being a Microsoft product and a fairly new one to. The funny thing is it says on the box Windows Vista certified. A bit inacurrate considering the supplied driver disc wont run....

Advantages: Sits on top of monitor, sleek design
Disadvantages: Falls of monitor sometimes.

Some negative comments include, no automatic focus, falls of screen occasionally, and when recording theirs about a 3 second pause before the filming starts which looks a bit retarded. Another Powerhouse From Microsoft.

Advantages: Great Game Library, Incredible Graphics and Great Online.

In my reviews for consoles, i usually review four categories, Controllers, Graphics, Multiplayer/Online, and Game Library (thus far) but for the 360 and my later review on the PS3, i'll also be reviewing the consoles Design. The design of the 360 is much like the original Xbox, odd. The original Xbox was a bulky black box and weighed more then two PS2's combined. This was a well-known fault in the machines, and so even though the machine was out of warranty, Microsoft would fix it.
