A more attractive office
Advantages: Vastly improved interface & security
Disadvantages: memory requirement
...Having installed Office 2003 a little under a year ago, my first impression was that it was slow and clunky. It turns out that I needed more RAM in the system, so poped in another 512Mb and the speed is no longer an issue.
I was very pleased with the look and feel of the package, which i felt was a vast improvement on previous versions. In particular, Outlook 2003 has many improved features such as the way emails are grouped by date, with the ability to expand and collapse the groups to only show what you want to see at any given time.
Enhanced junk filters and security features keep your emails and machines safe from email based bugs and trackers. Any bugs or trackers are blocked on receipt, before they have a chance to share information about you.
The whole package shares a common look and feel, while still retaining...

Microsoft Office - Essential for any business or individual
Advantages: Many packages on one disc which will save you time.
Disadvantages: Price is high
...Intro
Microsoft Office has always been an essential piece of kit for any business or individual who works on his computer. Since Windows 95 when office really took off, users all of the world trust it for keeping track of their finances with Excel, for word processing with word or for creating great presentation with PowerPoint. But Microsoft Office can be used for a whole lot more. I use Office as an email client using Outlook. Each of these packages are good by themselves but together they are extremely efficient and can save you a lot of time and in business time is money.
There are many packages on this one disc, so I will highlight the main ones.
Microsoft Word
For anybody who types up documents on their pc or just writes notes, Word is absolutely essential. The documents that you create using Word are professional...

Death by a thousand cuts or a brilliant presentation package?
Advantages: A great tool for the creation of formal and educational presentations.
Disadvantages: Takes time and practice to become a confident, competent user.
...Death by a thousand cuts or a brilliant presentational package?MS PowerPoint
MS PowerPoint is a powerful graphics programme that has transformed the manner in which we prepare and deliver presentations. You can create, customise, animate and print presentations. It enables you to communicate information clearly and effectively. Many computers come with this package already installed. The MS PowerPoint version that I use is the 2003 package for Students and Teachers, working on an XP laptop. This package costs £40.00 from Amazon, if bought separately, and is operated through Windows. The 2003 version has been superceded by newer, more sophisticated versions, the latest being MS PowerPoint 2007. However, I still find the 2003 version perfectly adequate for my present needs.
There are many online training packages, much...

Microsoft FrontPage 2003
Advantages: Much better HTML, CSS & scripting support, easy to use
Disadvantages: some features rely on Sharepoint Services which most people won't have.
...FrontPage has had a troubled history. Those that enjoyed its simple WYSIWYG approach felt let down by its lack of support for newer web technologies whilst HTML gurus sneered at its poor HTML generation and dependence on proprietary extensions on the server to achieve anything useful.
With the 2003 release Microsoft have tried very hard to please everyone and managed to achieve great strides although it is still far from perfect.
In terms of support, things are now much more impressive. There is support for XML, XSLT, CSS, Jscript, Javascript, VBScript and ASP.NET. Where it still lacks is mainly PHP and common non Microsoft databases such as MySQL The support extends to IntelliSense and AutoComplete as well as easy access to any code snippets you may have in your library.
FrontPage 2003 also has tools to help develop web site...

Smart Database for entry & small level enterprise.
Advantages: Light weight, Good user interface, Low maintenance.
Disadvantages: Suitable for entry & small level enterprise only.
...I am using Microsoft Office Access 2003 for storing data with unconventional data files like image files. I find MS Access 2003 very useful with good user interface. It is light weight database which is not Memory hungry, so it is very fast.
When it comes to Maintenance part it is so simple that lehman can also do it with out any trouble. When it comes into development part it is very handy. One can build application very speedly.
Database objects are very handy. Setting up relations through graphical interface is a great adventage over other database of this catagory. Your can choose the database formart from Access 97 format to Access 2003 format. Also, you have facility to repair database if it is corrupted.
In my opinion, Microsoft Office Access 2003 is a Smart Database for entry & small level enterprise....

The new office package from Microsoft
Advantages: looks good, they have ironed out little 'niggles'
Disadvantages: none really, probably price!
...I have just been shown Microsoft’s newest version of ‘Office’ – Office XP which will be released to the general public on May 31st 2001. The XP stands for eXPerience, or so we were told. Cheesiness aside, it all looked rather good.
This opinion is written for people with a working knowledge of Office already, as if I described the Office suite and also said what’s new in XP you would still be reading at Christmas!
So here is what’s new to tempt you into Microsoft Office XP.
Firstly, they have been rather clever in the anti-piracy stakes. As you purchase your Office package, install it on your PC, you then need to ‘activate’ it. It will allow you to get started immediately and not activate if you wish but you only have 50 launches, so as you are nearing your deadline it prompts...

Complete Overhaul of the Office Suite
Advantages: Ease of use, Fantastic AutoFormats & Increased Features
Disadvantages: Experienced users will find it hard at the start to find known features
...General Opinion
As an IT Trainer I have used and taught the Microsoft Office suite for 9 years and this is the most exciting change to hit our PCs in years.
It is not just an upgrade on an old idea but a complete overhaul of the system. Gone are the old menus and toolbars and in their place is a new feature called the Ribbon. Where once you could turn toolbars on and off accidentally never to be seen again this version allows its users to play around with all the features without the fear of losing any functionality.
For new users it is more intuative with the features being grouped together and being more visual. There are many Automatic Formatting features which give your documents a much more professional look in a much shorter time.
More Visible Features
Some examples of the earlier hidden...

Microsoft 2003 upgrade
Advantages: easy to install
Disadvantages: expensive
...Microsoft Word 2003
Microsoft word 2003 upgrade is actually one of Microsoft's better products, it has new templates incorporated into the package and has excellent downloads from the Microsoft website which for a limited time are actually free.
Microsoft has been attempting to integrate all its packages in the office program for some time and this has generally worked Microsoft word is capable of importing all of the other office programs into word. This package is one of the best on the market however it doesn't handle images and graphics very well this is because when you try and place a graphics image on the screen it uses half the page with a graphics box.
In my humble opinion Microsoft are trying to emulate a desktop publishing program when they should really just stick to a word processor and create a desktop publishing...

Microsoft's XP Package
Advantages: Great new feel, built in firewall, virus protection & automatic updates
Disadvantages: Slow at times, hackers target it
...connection or a DVD player, these are just extra things that allow you to do more with your computer. You DO have to have all the things in the System Requirements part, though, otherwise the computer won't work very well.
--- Which package? ---
You are now probrably wandering whether you should get Home or Professional. To be completely honest, you don't really need Professional, it's just got a few extra features, but comes at a much higher price. I have XP Home and I use the computer for business, and it works completely fine.
But when it comes to upgrading that's different. You must be completely sure that the current operating sytem can be upgraded to XP. Please look below for information about this.
Upgrading to Windows XP Home:
Windows 3.1 - NO
Any Evaluation Version - NO
Any Server Version - NO
Windows 95 - NO
Windows 98...

Move over Sir Alan...
Advantages: Simple, professional, great options
Disadvantages: Irritating minor points
...quite simply not an option. Then the good old internet served up a right result. Introducing Microsoft Office Live Small Business:
~~*~~ What is it? ~~*~~
Good question. Now, I'm a girl. Computerness is not really my thing. Anyone who's perused my Dell Inspiron laptop review will remember how the land of computers can be completely greek to someone like me. Put simply, MOLSB appears to be a free hosting and web design service designed for small businesses - Maisha Frost from the Daily Express says it's an "internet service compatible with PCs and Macs which provides a free site, hosting and software for smaller businesses" (that's what I said wasn't it?). And it's so simple that I can do it. Years ago, using the "Internet for dummies" as a guidebook, I designed my own web page - it was crap. It took about 3 solid weeks...
