Very Stable Operating System (for Microsoft!)

Advantages: Stable O/S, good security with updates from the net, easy to use
Disadvantages: Internet connection essentual for upgrades! Basic Windows appearance

...The best thing I can say about Windows 2000 is that is the most stable and compatible Microsoft operating system that I have ever used. Before I had this installed on my computer I had Windows XP, and had no end of problems with it including system errors on a daily basis! Once this was cleaned off my hard drive and replaced with 2000, no more errors or crashes and finally a stable environment to work in! The good points are: 1) Very stable environment! - As Windows 2000 was built on NT technology (designed for networks and security) it has all the advantages of that operating system and more. The OS is designed to be used easily by the home user on one or more machines and works extremely well over a network, as you would expect. However with 2000 you have a lot more program compatibility with applications and games than NT...

Review of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional 2000 Complete package

Windows 7 - a great operating system.

Advantages: looks great, easy to use, nice new taskbar, high compatibility
Disadvantages: cost is still high

...larger icons in squares. Instead of quick launch you have to "pin" items to the taskbar, which basically means they're always there, even when they are closed. When a program is open the square around it gets emphasized. There is a new feature called aero peek which is a little square in the bottom left which when you hover over it fades all of your open windows away and shows your desktop. When you click it then all of your windowd minimize and it takes you to your desktop. Another new feature is "aero snap" which is where you click and drag a window to either side of the screen to make it take up that half of the screen, or drag it to the top to make it maximise. Overall Windows 7 is a very good improvement over Vista, which in my opinion was still a good operating system, but Windows 7 is definitely better....

The thinking mans operating system

Advantages: Its free and quite user friendly

This was a well-known fault in the machines, and so even though the machine was out of warranty, Microsoft would fix it.
