Microsoft wireless mouse & keyboard
Advantages: looks smart, easy to install & use, responsive
Disadvantages: batteries wear out quickly
...I purchased this wireless mouse and keyboard set when I got a new computer as I thought it would look smarter and more modern than the wire mouse and keyboard that came with it. I chose this set as I felt that Microsoft had a good reputation and, at £30, this represented good value for money.
This was easy to connect up with the computer, just a simple plug in to the front of the box. That was all that was required to install. The mouse and keyboard each take two batteries. I find that the batteries wear down really quickly. This is frustrating, especially when typing where letters can be missed out in your work, or quite often, the space bar won't function. The batteries in the mouse wear out especially quickly.
Having said that, this is the only flaw I can find with the product. The keyboard is comfortable to type...

Man not mouse... Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse
Advantages: Wireless, Optical, Coverage
Disadvantages: none spotted to date
...I thought it was about time I reviewed the item I probably use more often than most - my mouse!
Product Overview:
As the product title implies it is a wireless, optical and Microsoft. Some more details bar the obvious to help you may be the following:
* Scroll Wheel
* Left/Right Handed
* Customisable buttons
* PC/Mac
* USB or PS/2
I think there are a few colours to choose from. I've got blue/silver and I think there is red/silver and white as another option (but don't hold me to that)
To my knowledge 'Special Edition' is merely colour editions because I didn't notice anything on the packaging to tell otherwise (although as is usual with my new purchases they are out of the wrapper rapid and into use before thought is given!)
Responsiveness:
I have found that however you choose to set this product up, so long as...

Labtec Wireless Optical Mouse.
Advantages: No more wires.
Disadvantages: Eats the batteries.
....
and the optical-tracking technology provides smooth cursor movement on almost all surfaces and eliminates the hassles of mouse pad and cleaning old-fashioned mouse balls.
The only downside to being wireless is that it takes batteries and with this one there is no off switch on the mouse,
so when not using my computer I remove the batteries..... and have noticed by doing this the batteries do last longer, around 3 weeks for me with average usage.
Overall this is a nice and neat looking little mouse and I prefer this much better than my old corded one, although I still have the old one just in case I run out of batteries when I dont have any !
As this was a gift I'm not sure of the price, but have seen it as low as £9.00 online.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Receiver
Batteries
Cordless Mouse
Small PS/2 Receiver and extension cable
Two AA Batteries...

AN EXCELLENT OPTICAL MOUSE
Advantages: Great response, no ball to get dirty, wheel is invaluable
Disadvantages: A bit on the pricey side
..., with a small part coming out of the bottom. Then when you move the mouse back and forth, the ball moves too, and this is picked up by rollers that are in contact with the ball inside the mouse mechanism.
There are two problems with this ? firstly the mouse relies on moving parts. The rollers and springs inside the plastic case don?t last forever, leading to rubbish performance from the mouse. The second problem is dust and dirt. It?s amazing how quickly it builds up inside the cavity where the mouse ball sits in normal operation, and unless you clean it out very regally, the pointer will not move evenly across the screen as you use the mouse.
So, Microsoft being the innovative and creative (ha!) people that they are, they have come up with the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical, available almost everywhere for about 25 quid.
OK, lets looks...

My Pet Mouse
Advantages: Quality. Sleek. Durable. Responsive
Disadvantages: Range Is A BIt Short.
...This optical mouse takes two AA batteries and as it says on the box, it is totally wireless. I found that upgrading to a wireless desktop made my cluttered desk space slightly more bearable and although it still gets messy, at least I can move things around without yanking the mouse (or keyboard) out of its socket.
The mouse has a matt finish, and this seems to help when you are at your computer eating crisps or popcorn etc. The grease that is usually a pain when it gets on your mouse or keyboard doesn?t cause too many problems here. I?m often a culprit for using the Playstation or computer with greasy hands, but with this mouse it?s more forgivable.
My mouse is actually a different colour scheme than the one pictured ? all black but it?s the same model and I?ve only had it a few weeks now. It definitly has a feel of quality...

Advent wireless optical mouse.
Advantages: fast, responsive
Disadvantages: poor battery life, sometimes needs resetting
...is to acknowledge the signal from the mouse when you use it, and the other is to indicate charging status, red when battery life low. Green when ok.
If you are a heavy mouse user the batteries do not last long, this is one of the mouses downfall, I would recomend buying a cheap, seperate charger and rechargeable batteries to hold in reserve. The other drawback is lock up the mouse can sometimes just freeze for no reason and you have to restart the computer again.
Advantages
Optical so no clogging like a standard trackerball mouse
no leads which get tangled up around your workstation.
Disadvantages
Poor battery life
Once you use this mouse you will never use an old style mouse again, its akin from going back to dial up internet after experiencing broadband ....

Microsoft Optical Wireless Desktop Elite Setup
Advantages: Batterly life, Responsiveness, Range, Feel
Disadvantages: The annoying 'F lock' default
...Microsoft's Wireless Optical Desktop Elite keyboard and mouse combo is the best keyboard ? mouse combo I have seen so far. It has got loads of programmable options, a horizontal scroll wheel, and a fantastic battery life. It doesn't come with a charger beacuse you really don't need one! It?s well suited to you if you don?t want a cluttered up desk.
Based on RF technology, the black and silver setup looks very nice and modern. Simply plug the receiver into the ps/2 ports on the back of your PC and away you go. Of course to get the full features you have to install the IntelliPoint software from the included disc. The simple software allows you to customize the mouse buttons and reassign the keyboard's multitude of specialty keys, which lie along the top of the keyboard. Alternatively, you can program these keys to open everything...

Genius Wireless USB Keyboard and Optical Mouse
Advantages: Wireless, Relativly cheap, Durable, Initially get rechargeable batteries
Disadvantages: Need to eventually buy new batteries, Problems with low power.
...essential in all modern mice. It has an optical laser so can be used on any surface.
Both the keyboard and the mouse are wireless and their signal is picked up by a smart receiver come battery charger. The feature of being wireless is great for people who use spaces for multiple purposes such as a written work/study area as well as for using a PC. It plugs into a standard USB A slot. The box comes with 6 rechargeable AA batteries, user manual and a driver CD.
The rechargeable batteries are a great addition to the pack however I found after a few months of use they did not hold the charge as well and did not last. This means eventually you will be using regular batteries which is obviously more expensive than using wired keyboard and mouse equivalents.
When the battery power in either the mouse or keyboard gets low it can lead to...

Have you gone wireless yet?
Advantages: no wires, great connection, no charging anything
Disadvantages: can't find any yet.
...The Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse is the best mouse I have ever used. The great thing is that there are no wires whatsoever you just insert the batteries, very easily done, and the battery life is brilliant they last for ages. No need to constantly keep charging anything. It comes with a USB receiver, which is small and discreet and doesn't get in the way and the connection is amazing. Durablity is also inportant as i have found dropping the mouse on the floor can happen a lot with any mouse. It's not broken yet!
It's a very comfortable mouse to use, and the prices you can buy it at now its also great value for money. It has a wonderful response to movement and is so light to touch. Comes in White, Black and a blue called Periwinkle. The one i have is black but if i had known earlier I could have gotten a blue one I...

THERE'S A MOUSE LOOSE ABOUT MY HOUSE
Advantages: responsive, can be used by left/right handed people, easy to install software
Disadvantages: batteries drain quickly
...Microsoft may dominate the computer software and operating system market, but throughout my working life I have been used to working with Logitech and Hewlett Packard so when the opportunity came to change my mouse I happily opted for a wireless optical mouse supplied by Microsoft and costing only £20 for the entire package, including 4 sets of AA batteries.
To operate the mouse the operating system must meet a series of minimum requirements, these are:
Windows XP/2000 or Windows Vista
Pentium 233 MHz or higher processor
128MB RAM
60MB hard disk space
An available USB port
CD-ROM drive
With these minimum requirements in mind, the mouse comes with a medium sized receiver which plugs directly into the USB port, while the software drivers are installed using the CD and CD-ROM drive requiring 60MB of space, 100MB if you...
