The new office package from Microsoft
Advantages: looks good, they have ironed out little 'niggles'
Disadvantages: none really, probably price!
...I have just been shown Microsoft’s newest version of ‘Office’ – Office XP which will be released to the general public on May 31st 2001. The XP stands for eXPerience, or so we were told. Cheesiness aside, it all looked rather good.
This opinion is written for people with a working knowledge of Office already, as if I described the Office suite and also said what’s new in XP you would still be reading at Christmas!
So here is what’s new to tempt you into Microsoft Office XP.
Firstly, they have been rather clever in the anti-piracy stakes. As you purchase your Office package, install it on your PC, you then need to ‘activate’ it. It will allow you to get started immediately and not activate if you wish but you only have 50 launches, so as you are nearing your deadline it prompts...

Death by a thousand cuts or a brilliant presentation package?
Advantages: A great tool for the creation of formal and educational presentations.
Disadvantages: Takes time and practice to become a confident, competent user.
...Death by a thousand cuts or a brilliant presentational package?MS PowerPoint
MS PowerPoint is a powerful graphics programme that has transformed the manner in which we prepare and deliver presentations. You can create, customise, animate and print presentations. It enables you to communicate information clearly and effectively. Many computers come with this package already installed. The MS PowerPoint version that I use is the 2003 package for Students and Teachers, working on an XP laptop. This package costs £40.00 from Amazon, if bought separately, and is operated through Windows. The 2003 version has been superceded by newer, more sophisticated versions, the latest being MS PowerPoint 2007. However, I still find the 2003 version perfectly adequate for my present needs.
There are many online training packages, much...

Upgrade Immidiately to MS Windows XP Professional
Advantages: Easy booting, less crashes, much faster and yes user friendly
Disadvantages: Dual boot becomes a problem
...all the OS is very software friendly.
Even system crashes is far less frequent with Windows XP Professional. It has overcome the unfriendly interface woes of Windows 2000.
The best of it is that disk partitioning and formatting the HD has become much more easier with XP which means in case your OS gives you problem, even a reasonably eloquent user can reload or even format or partition the hard disk just by reading the massages properly, in fact the option for formatting individual drives are there. The backup option is great. Create a back up of your files and remove all the partitions then format and recreate your disk partitions to your requirements.
I think it's one of the safest OS when you're online with continuos software and security updates from Microsoft, it's avisable to upgrade the ie to ie 8 for best surfing experince. To my...

Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Pro
Advantages: Solid toolset, real productivity improvements, edit/continue debugging
Disadvantages: No code profiling or source control, slightly suspect UK pricing
...product lifecycle from design through to testing. For home coders, there are also individual free versions of development environments for the main languages, a generous move by Microsoft if you don't need all the bells and whistles of the full blown Pro toolset.
Professional Toolset
It's probably best to say what major components you get with the pro version of Visual Studio 2005. You get VC++, C#, VB and VJ# along with appropriate forms editors complete with mobile support, code snippets, database tools and designers. You also get editor support for XML and XSLT, release versions of all the x64bit compilers (although for Itanium support you'll need to go for the Team System version), SQL Server Reporting Services as well as Crystal Reports and the developer version of SQL Server 2005. All in all, a lot of software for your money...

Microsoft FrontPage 2003
Advantages: Much better HTML, CSS & scripting support, easy to use
Disadvantages: some features rely on Sharepoint Services which most people won't have.
...FrontPage has had a troubled history. Those that enjoyed its simple WYSIWYG approach felt let down by its lack of support for newer web technologies whilst HTML gurus sneered at its poor HTML generation and dependence on proprietary extensions on the server to achieve anything useful.
With the 2003 release Microsoft have tried very hard to please everyone and managed to achieve great strides although it is still far from perfect.
In terms of support, things are now much more impressive. There is support for XML, XSLT, CSS, Jscript, Javascript, VBScript and ASP.NET. Where it still lacks is mainly PHP and common non Microsoft databases such as MySQL The support extends to IntelliSense and AutoComplete as well as easy access to any code snippets you may have in your library.
FrontPage 2003 also has tools to help develop web site...

Microsoft Windows Xp home with SP2
Advantages: easy to run, is compatible with most software
Disadvantages: bug prone, easily becomes unstable
...rarely loses this connection. I have only lost it once and this was a fault with the router, not win Xp!
Another new adaptation of XP is the new layout of the control panel. It is now organised into catagories - like appearance and theme and users etc. This differs from previous windows versions in so far as they organised it into specific things like mouse etc (you get the idea) if however, like my parents!! you prefer the old layout of the control panel Microsoft have made it easy enough to convert back by the cick of the button called "switch to classic view" I personally prefer the new layout.
Microsoft have also made changes to the use of the CTRL + ALT + DEL key combination. Before, in Me and so on, this key combination just got you out of the program you were in, and two of these restarted the Pc. Not very useful. In the new...

Mac OS X (Complete Package)
Advantages: Very similar to Windows XP
Disadvantages: Very different from Mac OS 9
...a much more logical manner which are easily accessible. Also recently I discovered OSX comes with a game of chess which I have to say is very addictive.
When I first saw OS X I was like O' my god this is completely different - but it only took me a few days before I got the hang of it and could then see all the positive things about it. I would certainly recommend this to anyone!...

Picture perfect with another Microsoft marvel
Advantages: Changes the way you view photos for ever, Panoramic Stitching.
Disadvantages: Not cheap!
...-::: INTRO:::-
A few weeks ago I was watching 'The Gadget Show' on channel five. They had a section in the show where the presenter compared 3 different photo editing software packages; Adobe Photoshop Elements, Picasa2 and Microsoft Digital Image Suite (MDIS from hereon.) The show concluded that overall the Microsoft product was the winner. There were a few functions that I saw demonstrated on the programme that I thought were really impressive, so I went out and bought myself a copy.
The software can be split into three general areas. First the digital image library, second, the photo editor, and then lastly the photo story
-::: DIGITAL IMAGE LIBRARY :::-
If you're anything like me, your photo collection is well into the thousands. In fact, in the summer of 2004 I took 743 photos! In MDIS, you can change the size...
