Windows 7 overview
Advantages: Easy to use, Aesthetically pleasing, User friendly
Disadvantages: Not enough variation from vista, no desktop button
...Windows 7 Review
With the recent release of the new Microsoft operating system windows 7 many people believe windows vista will be forgotten about with its constant security alerts and lack of user options. The new operating system has many new features which I will run through now.
Firstly the new taskbar down at the bottom is a lot easier on the eye as it no longer has any text whatsoever, instead Microsoft have opted to use just the logo of the software the user currently has running. Another improvement to the taskbar is the ability to lock items to the task bar which is a replacement of the quick launch system in Vista, this simply means that you right click click on the logo of the software you want to lock and click ?pin to taskbar? this means that when the program isn?t open it still has an icon on the taskbar and can be...

Windows 7: Is what Microsoft is saying really true?
Advantages: Runs really fast, Some very good features, any decent machine can run it.
Disadvantages: The Price. It looks like vista and it really is just a brush up on the old OS
...Windows 7 has been said by Microsoft as being much improved and everyone would be happy with the end result. But is it really better, below is my review of a few sections which I believe is most important and compare it to older versions.
Speed: 9/10
Much faster than Vista. To compare with the Vista OS, on Vista it took around 30 secs to 45 secs to boot up and log me in. Now on Windows 7 it takes 20 - 30 secs to boot up. Shut down is also so much faster. Vista = 15 secs... Windows 7 = 5 secs..... So there is a huge improvement. Also when running programs or browsing the internet you feel like this Operating System is very smooth and just does what you want (most of the time)
Program Compatablilty: 8/10
Most Programs that run on Vista will run on Windows 7 (32-bit) very well. Though (64-bit) has a few problems such as many...

Windows 7 - it makes Vista look like a beta
Advantages: smooth, quick, easy to install and use, pretty to look at, simplified for the masses
Disadvantages: Vista should have been like this - Microsoft robbed us!
...a quick right click on the desktop brings up an options menu ? they have now added ?change resolution? as an option in that list. So that?s nice an easy. A button on the far right of the taskbar will ?show desktop? with one click, another button there allows you to bring up the task manager without hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL.
The UAC controls are still in place, but not as potent or irritating, but that could be because I am used to them? The whole windows theme seems to have a ?larger? element to it. The icons, buttons and everything are just bigger, even with a really high resolution. You can however change this in the control panel, if you like things to be small, like I do. The gadget sidebar has been dropped and you can now just drop gadgets where ever you feel like. The slideshow wallpaper has to be one of my favourite features though, you...

Windows 7 - The Best OS Yet!
Advantages: Great new toolbar, excellent personalisation, overall brilliant design
Disadvantages: Really similar to Vista.
...the notification area and time/date (both of which have featured on all previous toolbars). In the far right corner of the toolbar is a small button which reveals the desktop when pressed.
My favourite part of the toolbar is the way the programs are set out. As I mentioned earlier, programs can be pinned to the toolbar which allows you to quickly access them. When it's first installed, the programs pinned to the toolbar are Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer and Windows Media Player. I am a keen programmer with little use for Windows Media Player so I've removed it from the taskbar and replaced it with Visual Basic and Visual C++ as they are two of the programs I use most often. The programs appear only as icons (i.e. Internet Explorer only appears as the "e" icon and doesn't have any description of the open application). This means more items will...

Windows Vista Home Premium
Advantages: Speed, Durabliity, Function, less memory use & ease of Use
Disadvantages: Some product in-compatible
...Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium is far better that any version of windows I have used, to start at the beginning the installation is more automated and easier, making a quicker installation, although in my opinion I would not recommend an upgrade, but moreover a clean install, I would also recommend you installing Microsoft compatibility software, which can be downloaded from their website.
If there is incompatible software, its a nightmare to remove and correct, i.e. when I first installed I did a direct upgrade only to find my SATA drives (64 bit incompatibility only) and Zone Alarm Internet Security was incompatible (later editions compatible, except when running 64 bit architecture).
Some Software after the direct upgrade could not be removed as the Install/Uninstall programs had been removed by the upgrade (These...

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic/Premium
Advantages: If you have the hardware, the speed will be amazing.
Disadvantages: If your not using a 64bit system. Only thing you will see different is the design.
...Well, are you thinking of getting vista? Well a few things you might want to know before you decide.
Vista home basic is well, basic. Maybe suitable for the basic user who has no idea how there pc is working. Its security is regarded by Microsoft as the best yet. Maybe so, but when things go wrong, because its basic, the recovery tools to fix your system without losing everything is next to nothing, hence Basic.
If you do chose to buy vista, I would recommend buying Home Premium as that has everything you need to keep your windows sweet & secure. If any problems, crashes or data lass happens. It has good recovery tools to make sure the loss is kept to the minimum.
Windows Vista is a powerful windows. Everything is designed for high quality graphics & style. So, if your pc has limited memory & CPU power, you?re going to have...

Believe the hype!
Advantages: Works well. robust and resilient, user friendly.
Disadvantages: The upgrade took time and needs to be left alone to do its job. Do not interrupt!
...My father, a venerable old gentleman of 79 years at the time decided to buy a laptop from Aldi, and surprise me. He had no experience of computers, but wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
It was one of the first laptops shipped with Vista, and my first viewing. Vista seemed like a different beast and Microsoft had shuffled some of the functionality, but it appeared very slick if cumbersome. The laptop was shipped with 1 gb of ram, and a 1.6mhz pentium processor and it struggled to do anything. After upgrading to 2gb, it was slighlty better, but I was resigned to it being a poor performer. Eventually I added a gadget to display the processor and memory performance to the desktop, and the processor gauge indicated that the processor was working at 100% on what I would class as everyday tasks such opening programs. Dad often...

Windows Vista (Home Premium X86)
Advantages: Areo, Voice Recognition, Mobility Center
Disadvantages: Bloatware
...I decided to treat myself this year and buy a laptop, and after i did a saw that it came with an 'Express Upgrade'. Well i signed up for that and found that it takes 4 weeks for delivery. So in that time I got used to the speed of the laptop under XP. when it arrived (the packaging rocks by the way i began the install routine but it turned out that a majority of my software would not work under Vista (worryingly this list included windows live messenger). so instead of going through the trouble of reinstalling half my system i decided to backup my documents and reformat. that made the whole progress a lot easier, and i would recommend this way of doing it. the install routine took roughly 2 hours, but took a further 20 minuets to configure the usual stuff (time, date, accounts). despite the time taken it is still remarkably easy to...

Windows or Mac?
Advantages: Design, ease of use
Disadvantages: Slower than XP,
...comparison with Ultimate, I can safely say that all the features that any home user would use are all standard on Vista Home premium. I consider Ultimate to be for the hardcore users and fanatics of computers, who are very in to their technology.
I would recommend anyone to upgrade to Vista Home Premium, as I believe it is more exciting and fun the XP. It will take some time for a common XP user to get used to but it will pay off in the end.
So, is this the future?
Most people say yes, but personally, the way I see it, even though I currently use a Windows PC, I think that Apple have been way ahead of its game for a long time now. They were the ones that came up with the Vista look and they are the ones that, sooner or later will be dominating the ever so competitive and evolving market of computing....
