Microtek ScanMaker 3600

Advantages: Affordable, solid, good quality and you can rest cups of tea on top!
Disadvantages: Sometimes slow to scan and other scanners do have better quality

...We have had out Microtek Scanmaker 3600 for well over 5 years now and it is still going strong and doing the job for our entire family. I'm not sure how much we paid for it, but it was not a lot because we just wanted a basic scanner that could scan in documents. It is very reliable, easy to use, with a suitable range of features but has the tendency to be a bit slow occasionally. 1. Looks, Design and Size The scanner is fairly good looking, quite elegant and fairly compact. It measures approximately 17" long, 10" across and 4" high so can fit into most desktop areas. It has a solid build to it and rather funky curve on the lid that gives it some added style. Furthermore, the main surface is flat and you can easily rest your cup of tea, lunch or bits of paper on top! The white colour is easy on the eye and fits in to most rooms...

SHE 9600 - Not just for girls.

Advantages: Sound quality, comfort
Disadvantages: Muddled wires, earpieces falling off

...On my quest for the perfect set of earphones I've tried out alot of different makes and models. The SHE9600 were one of the better pairs that I tried. Retailing at around £30 at the moment (which is a fair price) this is a good pair of mid-range earphones. Philips are a well known brand and these earphones are as good as you would expect. Readers of my earphone reviews will know that I prefer my earphones to have the padded earpiece as they fit better and also cut out alot of background noise. These earphones do both of these pretty well although the padded parts kept coming away from the main earphone. After a while they began to lose their shape and they fell off more and more often. Philips supply three different sizes of earpieces with these but what you really need it multiple pairs of the same size! (JVC have done that...

Asus 9600GT 512Mb Graphics Card

Advantages: Very powerful, Cheap, Only uses one slot on the motherboard
Disadvantages: Stock cooler is loud

...A great piece of kit at a great price! Usually with graphics cards the general saying is 'you get what you pay for'. In the case of the 9600gt this is definatly not true. For roughly £95 you are getting high definition quality graphics. The card itself comes presented in a nice looking box. Supplied with all the usual connectors and drivers. Installation is a doddle, and there were no problems updating the driver software from the website (one little downside that i had to do). However, this card boasts amazing performance, it has run Call of Duty 4 & 5, Left 4 Dead and Medal of Honor Airbourne all on the highest possible settings, which is fantastic on such a cheap card! The only downside i can see from this card is the stock cooler that is supplied with it, the 60mm fan is very loud and very whiney. So perhaps an after market...

Sapphire Radeon 9600XT Review

Advantages: Price, value for money, performance
Disadvantages: Not for the advanced gamer

...Introduced as one of radeons mid-high end products, the Radeon 9600xt was originally aimed at the user on a budget, who still required good performance out of moderate applications. Featuring exactly the same functionality and system performance as the 9600 PRO, XT is based on the RV360 chip. Coupled with cooling, and superior memory, ATI's major downfall came with the memory speed of only 300MHZ. Although to be fair, they have laxed this and allowed 25MHZ increases only recently. Using the latest and fatest AGP 8X, the most can be experienced from some of the latest games. After an attempt running DOOM3 with the card, I experienced VERY smooth gameplay, however there are slight stutters when it comes to large open environment rendering scenes, for example 9600XT has a hell of a hard time trying to keep up with Far...

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb

Advantages: High power (ish), pretty cheap
Disadvantages: heat

...! The card isn't too power hungry, it works fine on my 350W power supply that was supplied with my budget pc (£235 but powerful nevertheless) So far you'd think this card was a really great buy. and don't get me wrong, i love it. but unfortunately i didn't realise you could buy an ATI radeon 9550 with 256Mb RAM and a nearly identical performance for cheaper. It can easily be overclocked with no extra cooling to outperform my 9600 pro, and i've been slated a few times off computer geeks for not knowing this before. If i were you, i'd definately buy this if you're looking for a cheap but powerful graphics card to work on graphics processing / CAD, but also if you're a light-medium gamer who isn't too serious, although seriously consider the 9550 before you go ahead and buy a 9600. Hope this helps!...

Sapphire RADEON 9600 Atlantis Pro 256MB

Advantages: Great Value, Relaible
Disadvantages: No as good as 9800 series

...I wanted to buy a video card that could handle cames such as Call of Duty and NFSU2 easily with a bit to spare. I didn't want to break the bank, and although I was tempted by the 9800 series I opted to go for a sapphire 9600 pro(256mb). I must emphasize the importance of purchasing a pro model as opposed to a standard 9600. Although the pro is not as good as the xt, the price increase from the standard 9600 was minimal(a mere 2 pounds in my case!), so the performance upgrade was well worth the bit extra. I was constrained by the fact that I didn't have a pci express port only an agp, but I have been assured that I do not lose out by buying agp compatable technology at this stage. It is recommended to use this card with an 8x agp slot but using a 4x is fine. The all important core clock speed of the 9600 pro is 400mhz, compared to...

Asus (Ati) Radeon 9600XT Video In/Out version

Advantages: Nicer graphics than your last one
Disadvantages: Disappointing performance for the midrange

...I needed something worthy to replace the mighty 3DFX Voodoo 3 to play the latest games that required all those fancy Pixel Shaders and Lighting Transformers. Avoiding the budget range of nVidia's FX5200 cards I put the biggest budget yet on the 9600XT specification of Mac(intosh) daddy graphics maker ATI. Build ------- Differing from ATI's reference board colour red, this is orange. One of the nicest heat sinks architected (with a slanted carving of 'ASUS') span over not just the graphics processor but the topside memory as well. Don't get your hopes up for overclocking the memory because it has a heatsink on it though as there are memory chips uncovered on the other side of the board as well. I think of ATI's designs as more efficient than nVidia's, this is because ATI don't need external power from the system's main power supply...

Inexpensive Veteran Scanner, a Household's Friend

Advantages: Durable, Programmable, Easy to Set
Disadvantages: Too Slow for Offices, Quality Pictures Require Changing Settings

...The Microtec ScanMaker 4850 flatbed scanner might seem obsolete due to its quality, being half of what more modern scanners can offer, and the fact it is not a part of a multi-functional copier, but you should not be assumptuous about this device. Instead of reviewing the mechanics and energy consumption of the scanner, this summary will provide you practical information about the technology in question. The scanner came with an USB wire and power cord, instruction manual (it was unnecessary, as all you have to do is plug it in and install the software), installation CDs (multi-lingual, one for Max, one for Windows) with plenty of software including Microtek's scanner applications and an OCR application, which is gold, as it turns your scanned material available for editing in Word. Value for Money I've gotten this...

Cheap but Pretty Good Graphics Card

Advantages: Cheap, Fast graphics, ATI are a trusted graphics chipset maker
Disadvantages: Still just a budget card, 9600 a bit out of date, driver issues

...The review is on my Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 256MB, which I purchased from Ebuyer. It?s a Graphics Card, or Video Card; some might like to call it, which is a computer component, which goes inside a computer and it lets you connect your monitor to your computer so that you can see what you?re doing. Sapphire Technologies is simply a company that uses the ATI chips on their graphics cards. Some computer motherboards have on-board graphics so you don?t even need to buy one these unless you wanted your computer to have more powerful graphics capabilities but my AsusTek P4C800-E Deluxe (see review *wink wink*) doesn?t, so it was necessary to purchase a graphics card. The Atlantis 9600 is an AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) graphics card, which is the most common type but there PCI versions available, but they are not as fast. There...
